8 mo drank from dog bowl...help!

Hello..just looking for some advice really
My 8mo is mobile and curious. Caught her today with lips round rim of dog water bowl. I wiped her mouth and face, gave her some clean water to drink. She seems absolutely fine / has eaten lunch and gone to nap fine.

I feel like a dreadful parent - I was in the same room when it happened but was looking for something in a cupboard and obviously she moves faster than I thought (she was also occupied with a toy when I first turned round). I have baby proofed a lot of the house, but obviously more needs to be done.

Any advice / words of wisdom? I'm worried she may catch something or get ill. Please tell me other babies have done this..

Just make sure that you replace any water that she drunk so that the dog doesn't go without.

She will be fine.

@ElenaSt excellent priorities 😂
Loving this thread 🙌🏼

It's probably not the worst thing you'll catch her doing. She'll be fine, will almost certainly do it again. Please don't try to 'baby proof' and deprive the dog of water.
Small children and pets make for some interesting situations! I've caught my dc sharing all kinds of food and drink with the cats and dog.

both ate a shocking amount of dry pet food when they were crawling. Neither had anything more than an interesting nappy afterwards (and often a pissed of cat demanding immediate replacement of the food).

@RagingWoke absolutely won’t deprive the dog (or cat!) of their water - they are the original babies! I imagine both would be pretty outraged if / when the baby decides their food is of interest.

whoever told the story about the cat clamped under the baby’s arm and spoon feeding cat food - I told my partner and he thought this was the height of adorable 😂

My 5 year old kissed the toilet seat twice the other week. 🤢 he says he doesn't know why.
I just told him if he got sick it was his own fault 😂

Mine ate dried cat food, he is a fine and dandy teen now. I did die inside though, obvs.

She'll be fine. I caught mine chewing on a dogs rubber bone at a similar age, didn't clock it amongst the colourful baby toys until it was to late. I gave up sterilising his water cup after that one, as there didn't seem much point.

Much as the idea of lips round a slobbery dog bowl turns my stomach (I speak as the owner of a very slobbery dog!) I think she'll be fine!
And it'll be a great family story to tell down the years

I wandered into our en suite one morning and found my 1 ish year old with her mouth wrapped round the front of the loo seat This is the same child who grazed from the cat food bowl on numerous occasions, had to be physically restrained from eating the mealworms that had fallen off the bird table (she liked them) and sat under the table eating a flip flop, banging her head quite badly when MIL yelled in panic at the sight.
They all do it, the vast majority of them go on to live normal, healthy lives.

I remember coming into the house while my son was visiting with his little girl she was about 2 at the time. My ds and dh husband were watching the football and drinking the special tea in the play tea cups that my dear granddaughter had given them both, I just casually asked were do you think she has got that water from, they both looked up and said the tap, no you twatts she can’t reach, only place she can get water is from the toilet bowel.

😂😂

RedRobyn2021 · 11/06/2022 07:44

This made me laugh

I caught my daughter eating dog biscuits when she was 10 months

She was absolutely fine

We'd put the dog bowl in a different part of the kitchen so when I got her out her high chair I forgot to pick it up 🤦🏻‍♀️

Axahooxa · 11/06/2022 07:45

@MintyMoocow the mealworms!!! 😭

Has anyone else's crawling baby hoovered up all the bits dropped on the floor at a birthday party? Or was it just mine

Butteryflakycrust83 · 13/06/2022 15:40

I am sure I remember on the Babies documentary that children who grow up with dogs in the house have a better immune system - maybe now we know why!
