When did you put baby in their own room?

Exactly that really. DD1 was 6 months. Because of a mixture of apprehension of DD2 waking DD1 and vice versa, DD2 is still with us at 7.5 months. We don't plan to have more kids so also think we might be holding on for longer than we should as it seems a step away from needing us quite so much!

So, how long did your babies sleep
In your room? Are DH and I batshit?

DD1 -we co slept and it was literally the only way we ever got any sleep so I'm ashamed to say 18 months!!

DD2 - we lived in a 2 bed when we had her so she was in a cot in our bedroom....we bought a four bed when she was 6 months old but spent another 6 months renovating it, so she was still in with me until she was 14 months! Then we moved into the new place and she had her own room and started sleeping through straight away! She is a light sleeper and so am I so it was starting to be a bit of an issue before we moved here!

IstayedForTheFeminism · 19/02/2022 00:39

About 6 months both times iirc. Might have been later with DS2 for the reason you've said. DS2 started sleeping in his own room every night at 9. Years that is Grin

PiesNotGuys · 19/02/2022 00:43

Shortest time was 13 months longest 3.5 years but the 3.5 years didn’t actually have a Room to move into, we had to move house to get one.

9 months only because she had well and truly outgrown the next2me crib and we had no space for the cot.
She still ends up in with us half way through the night now at 2.5, I don't think 7.5 months is old for still being in with parents

Chely · 19/02/2022 02:23

1st we tried once she outgrew the moses basket but she just ended up in our bed most nights until 2yr. 2nd was 16mth, just before 3rd arrived. 3rd was a few months away from 3yr, 4/5 replaced her. Twins stayed with us until 5yr then moved in to bunk beds with their big sisters. Baby is 6mth and will stay in our room until we move to a bigger house, at least 4 years.

PrettyBluebells · 19/02/2022 02:29

8 months; DS went and never ever came into our bed. Dd ended up back most nights till about 2 yo.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/02/2022 02:39

Ds went into his own room around 7 months, just before I finished maternity leave. He came back into ours around 7.5 months until around 2yrs 🤣

Do what you feel is best and whatever gets everyone the best possible nights sleep. There is no right, wrong time and no rush.

Chocoqueen · 19/02/2022 04:07

DD will be 6m next week and DH thinks we should move her soon, but I don't know if I'm ready. She's still waking a few times a night and I don't want to keep getting up - though maybe she'd sleep better in her own room 🤔

Flittingaboutagain · 19/02/2022 04:32

Planning on keeping this little one with us for a long while yet... almost seven month old now and will do side car with cotbed

Carbis · 19/02/2022 05:30

DS1 outgrew the snuzpod so was out at 6 months. DS2 is a bigger baby but likes to be cosier so we might get a bit longer. His bedroom is nowhere near ready so we might have the find space for the travel cot in our room somehow.

DP wants him out at 6 months but I’d prefer to keep him in for longer if I can.

Garman · 19/02/2022 05:46

Around 2-3 years we move them out, so weird to see people saying they're ashamed or mad because they share a bed or room with their own little babies or young children.

Poppop4 · 19/02/2022 06:00

6 months. She needed it, we were disturbing her in the night if we ever got up she’s a light sleeper. She slept through the night by 6 months so off she went into her own room

Duracellbunnywannabe · 19/02/2022 07:35

About 20 months they moved from in bed with me and into their own beds. But then once of us often stayed with them.

Shantotto · 19/02/2022 07:37

My DD is 3 in May and she still bed shares with us. DS until he was about 2 and a half.

Lazypuppy · 19/02/2022 07:37

We did 4 months. My dd is 4 now and has never slept in my bed, for me personally it was 1 thing i never wanted to do. Just do what you are happy with OP!

BeeDavis · 19/02/2022 18:04

My little boy is 5 months old and was moved into his own room a couple of weeks ago.. wish we’d done it earlier! His room wasn’t quite finished otherwise he’d have been in ages ago. We moved his next2me crib away from us when he was 4 weeks old as he kept being disturbed by us and he slept really well.

georgarina · 19/02/2022 18:17

5/6 months
Really helpful, stopped us waking each other up x

FinallySomeNormality · 19/02/2022 18:19

5 months with DS1 and 4 months with DS2

cherrytopcake · 19/02/2022 18:21

Approx 9 months first baby and 11 weeks second... second baby sleeps well so why wait.

Rumples · 19/02/2022 18:24

5 months as we were waking each other up moving around.

OneSwallow · 19/02/2022 18:24

From birth. They wouldn’t sleep in our room at all.

dontblamemee · 19/02/2022 18:38

Baby is still with us at 14 months. He has a cot in our room but mostly sleeps in our bed 😂

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/02/2022 18:42

2 years. She had a mattress on our floor. Would have been earlier if DH hadn’t needed her room for wfh which obviously came out of nowhere. We had to resign upstairs to give him other work space and her a room. It worked well though looking back, she was ready. DH had been keener to move her a few months earlier but in the end he was up half the first night she moved because he was used to hearing her breathing and missed her Grin

FreshBananasEverywhere · 19/02/2022 18:55

Our first went into their own room at 6months, the second was 18months (we coslept with both, DC2 just could not settle in their own room so we didn’t push it until I finished breastfeeding). No idea how long DC3 will be in with us, but I’m hoping it’ll be closer to 6months than 18!

Cbd333 · 19/02/2022 19:00

This is all very interesting, thank you. DD 4yo, who moved into own room at 6 months, now sneaks into our bed every night and has done for the last 6 months so when DD 7 months old does move into her sister's room she will probably be alone in there 😂
