Hi is 6 months. It was just a little crumb, I was letting him suck and it went down the wrong way
He is fine, breathing, smiling, mucking about but still keeps trying to cough it up, can I do anything, can't believe I was so daft!
Thanks.

he may have just enjoyed your reaction the first time he coughed.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 09:55

Oh, thankyou...have tried to Bf him and he had a few sucks and started to cough again, but now seems fine after a lot of upside down on lap back-patting!

Can I just check, it is Ok to let him suck bread etc at this age? He has only just started having baby food etc.

Bit at pizza for a 6 month old.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 09:58

It was just a tiny bit of the bread, Nab. I thought they could suck? Am wrong probably

I really would let him unless you use one of those food guards you can buy you put the food in a mess like dummy thing then he cant chock!

TLSM · 06/12/2007 10:00

or Mesh!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 10:00

Ok. Sorry ds2. Crap prenting award goes to FA this week.

I would not give a 6 month old any kind of bread let alone pizza, sorry.

Can you give him a drink to try & wahs it away? sounds like it has not gone down properly.

SelfishMrsClaus · 06/12/2007 10:02

Oh for god sake.. it's pizza.

Not arsenic.

He'll be fine. I'm more you didn't finish the whole thing yourself

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 10:03

Oh god. I am so out of touch with this weaning thing. Have so far only given baby food out of jars. I am officially negligent and rubbish. I saw a thread on here about babies though and someone said their child ate half a french loaf while in the supermarket, perhaps it was an older baby? I just had that image in my mind when I thought it was a 'good idea'

Poor thing. Call ss please, someone. I cannot trust myself

please don't all have a go at her for giving a tiny bit of pizza to her six month old.

FA - I'm sure he'll be fine. He is still coughing because his throat is irritated.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 06/12/2007 10:04

if he's fine, he's fine. i wouldn't go over-analysing the situation. sounds like a cough more than a choke really. was he silent? couldn't he breathe? did his lips go blue?

according to the NHS finger food is a-okay from 6 months and if you're not trying to skip gluten and being otherwise cautious about salt then i don't see anything wrong with bread. dd loved a big crust at that age.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 10:04

Thanks Mrsclaus!!!!!!!

as long as it wasn't a Hawaiian - why would anyone mix fruit and food?

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 06/12/2007 10:08

i'm just at pizza before 10am [drools]

give him some water, his throat may be a bit sore which is causing the cough.

mine were eating toast and bits of pizza at 6months.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 06/12/2007 10:08

wouldn't have shared a hawaiian, Squonk

He is asleep now, hasn#'t coughed since about - 9.54 I think. Panic over. I know if they choke on a peanut it can be lethal, so will hold off on the dry roasted for a week or two.

Not meant to sound flippant there...

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 06/12/2007 10:10

also, if you keep letting them at the finger food they do very quickly get better at it, so don't give it up. he's fine, you were there, he needed your help... that's what you're there for, isn't it? no harm done. (and you should think about stopping the bad mum stuff, you've done nothing wrong and everything right so far).

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 06/12/2007 10:10

I was not habing a go, i was purly pointing out I would not give a 6 month old break or pizza, my mother choked very very bad on bread when i was young & i thought she was going to die, i have a real thing about the stuff.

Give him some water & wash it through i am sure he will be fine
