Hi, just wondering if you bought anything (e.g. more equipment) for baby no 2 or did you have everything you needed from baby no 1?

We got a buggy board... but we’ve never used it 🙄
A material sling
An extra rocker so one for upstairs and downstairs
DS was still in his cot when baby would have been 6 months old so we got a new cot for baby, DS is now nearly 4 and still won’t move out his cot 🤣
Ummm that’s about it I think!!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 15/08/2020 19:26

We had pretty much everything we needed. We did buy a new pram/car seat as nice had got to our first one, and we were gifted a sleepyhead. And some clothes as he was prem so much smaller but everything else has been reused. It sounds odd but thinking about buying stuff now (DS2 is 9 months) and I often talk myself out of it as we aren’t having anymore children and I don’t know if I can justify buying it.

Car seat and a buggy board so far. I honestly can’t think of much else.

Everything else is fairly minor - new dummies and bottle teats if needed, will need a new mattress for the cot when baby moves out of our room at 6 months, a few new outfits as otherwise it’s all handmedowns.

Zoey36 · 15/08/2020 19:33

I'm pregnant with number 2 and I will buy another mirror for the car to see both of them....that's it I think!

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 15/08/2020 19:33

New crib mattress. Also summer clothes and lighter weight sleeping bags as DC1 was a winter baby and DC2 a summer one. That's about it really, we kept everything from DC1.

OnlyToWin · 15/08/2020 19:37

Small gap - so second cot (well, bought cot bed for older baby), also double buggy and new play mat because the first one was donated to us and had worn out by the time baby 2 came along. I also was bought quite a few new clothes as babies were born in different seasons .

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/08/2020 19:38

Need a new Moses basket, a new baby bath, new bottles and that should be it.

Twizbe · 15/08/2020 19:39

We got a new car seat and bed for eldest so we could reuse his baby ones.

We got a new rocker for upstairs which second baby hated

A cloth wrap sling (best purchase)

A second hand double pram

NamechangeforAIBU · 15/08/2020 19:42

A double pushchair - we do a lot of walking in our city and DC1 was just 2 when baby was born.
A few bits of clothes - different sexes,so just wanted to buy a few nice bits.
A new mattress for the moses basket.
A new sleeping bag - DC2 was a different season to DC1.

TheMandalorian · 15/08/2020 19:45

Just some new outfits, a new bouncy chair, and an ergo baby carrier. Oh and nappies and extra muslins, etc. Eldest got a new car seat.
A lot of ds1 stuff was given to us by sil and I felt a bit robbed that I didn't get to choose certain stuff for him. I buy ds2 a few new clothes each season so he is not always in hand me downs.

HarrietM87 · 15/08/2020 19:46

We’ll have a 2.5 year gap when baby 2 arrives. I’ve got:

  • new mattress for next2me (DS still in cot but will be in bed by the time baby grows out of next2me)
  • buggyboard
  • extra bouncer and play mat for upstairs so I have more options for putting her down (got these secondhand)
  • will need to get new 3-6 month clothes as this was summer for DS but will be winter for this baby. Newborn sleep suits etc can all be reused.
Lottieskeeper · 15/08/2020 19:47

New dummys in desperation for sleep after trying them 4 years earlier with exactly the same result! - angry baby and no sleepSad

Lockdownseperation · 15/08/2020 19:48

Buggy board - not used
New cot mattress- not used
New carry cot mattress - used a bit
Close caboo - used lots
Shuggle bath (second hand and sold on) - amazing
Changing table (second hand and sold on) - great
New changing mats
MyHummy - fantastic
A new bed for baby’s room - used by DH
A couple of cute baby grows

Boringnamechanging · 15/08/2020 19:48

Double pushchair
Different sling as she hated the wrap that ds loved
Electric rocker as it enabled me to put her down to play with ds
Some dresses, dc1 is a boy
Comforter
I crocheted some blankets for her (if I didn’t crochet then I’d of bought a blanket that was just hers)
Bottles when breastfeeding didn’t work out

Summer41 · 15/08/2020 19:52

We got a buggy board for child no. 1 (I don't drive and walk everywhere), a new pushchair because I wanted a parent facing one this time, a new cot mattress because they say you should get a new mattress for every baby, some new clothes because my first was born in winter and the second in summer so some of the clothes were out of season and a new highchair because our existing one was falling apart. Everything else we kept from our first.

Charlottejade89 · 16/08/2020 08:32

I've bought new moses basket mattress and sheets
bouncer
prep machine (second hand - didnt have one last time)
bottles
muslins and bibs
clothes
changing mat
and will need to buy a new bath as I borrowed off a friend with dd but will get a second hand one if possible and a baby bjorn carrier as I dont really want to buy a double pram

will be reusing the pram and carrycot, cot when needed, moses basket and changing bag is still in good nick

HazelWong · 16/08/2020 08:41

Not much:

Different types of sling as we did use a sling with older one but younger one basically lived in it for 6 months so needed an extra one so we could have one in the wash and a another slightly sturdier type for when he was over 6 months

Some bottles of varying types all of which he refused Grin

Few bits of clothing - mostly seasonal as one winter baby and one summer

PeacefulInTheDeep · 16/08/2020 20:22

DC2 is now 6mo and the only things we've bought specifically for her are:

  • More cloth nappies, another set of reusable wipes, a second nappy bucket etc as existing stuff was/is still in use with DC1
  • A pack of newborn sleepsuits and an outfit before she was born just so that she would have something "new" (and so that I could shop for baby clothes Wink)
  • More recently, some bits of clothing as they were each born in completely different seasons so we've needed some lighter, summer clothing. It also means DD has some pretty, girly clothes now rather than living entirely in her brother's hand-me-downs Grin

DC1 has benefitted from:

  • A new buggy, in order to free up the travel system for DC2
  • A booster seat for a dining chair, to free up the high chair
  • A whole new bedroom - bed, curtains, wall stickers etc, to free up the nursery & cot

In my experience, how much stuff you need for subsequent babies will depend on:

  • The age gap and whether the older child has outgrown or moved on from things like a cot or high chair already.
  • Whether you've kept/stored all the baby kit. Or if you borrowed things and have since returned them.
  • The season each DC is born.
Marmite27 · 16/08/2020 20:24

New changing mat as the one we had with DC1 disappeared, a new bag as I wanted a rucksack rather than messenger style so I had my hands free for the toddler. A sling for the same reason. I regret not having a sling with DC1. It was lovely, DC2 was prem and I didn’t like people touching her in the early days, the sling helped with that.

Marmite27 · 16/08/2020 20:25

Oh and a cot top changer as I had a section with #2. Most of these things have been passed on to BiL and his wife for their pending arrival.

Marmite27 · 16/08/2020 20:29

Actually, reading PP’s has jogged my memory. DH insisted on a new Moses basket (the old one was fine!) but it meant we had one upstairs and down. A buggy board that was used about twice as I found it really difficult to walk with. Early baby clothes, although they were similar sizes (3 weeks difference in gestation) DC2 stayed in smaller sizes longer. They were spring and autumn babies, but as DC2 grew slowly DC1’s stuff fitted in the right season. We’re in 2-3 now, so it’s a full year rather than 3 or 6 month sizes now.

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 16/08/2020 20:40

DD1 will be 19 months when DD2 arrives in November and we have pretty much everything other than we will need a new Moses basket, have bought some 0-3 clothes as we got rid of most of DD1's and eventually we will need a new cot as DD1's cot (that she doesn't sleep in Hmm) will turn into a cot bed

Tobebythesea · 16/08/2020 21:10

A Next 2 Me as we struggled with a Moses last time and hated it.

Boys clothes as we had a girl DC1.

New cotbed mattress

New video monitor

New changing mats as the old ones had split

Lonoxo · 19/08/2020 15:41

Thanks all. Seems like very little is required apart from maybe some new clothes.
