Bit of a rivial question-has anyone had a pinata at their kids party???

Is it as stressful as it looks(kids bashing with stick, rugby scrum for tat after).

DP thinks it looks like fun-I don't. Am I just being a killjoy??

As it would kill half an hour I could be persuaded. Should just add it's for my 4 year old twin boys party. Loads of 4 year old boys wielding a stick just doesn't sound good to me.

at least one nose will get broken.

I have said it before, so will just use a reminder ... Eyes, rusty pin, etc

I went to one with a pinata. Don't think the boys enjoyed it much. Too much queueing up to thump a strange object ... odd idea.

I bought one with strings the kids had to pull and they did it one at a time, the game lasted ages as none of the strings opened the thing and I had to pull it open my self them they scrabbled on the floor like scavengers.

You can get them with ribbons attached, which are much less violent like this one - not the cheapest - tesco do them too ...

We did a fill-your own one, and filled it with treat-size packs of chocolate buttons, milky ways, milky bar stars etc. ... but them we put nothing in the party bags, and the kids put what they scrabbled for in their party bags ...

Would I use one again? Probably not - quite a lot of effort, for a short amount of time ...

Have a bran tub/lucky dip instead. Less risk of injury with sawdust.

Hmmmm as DP would be in charge the major overseeing bit could be a problem.

we have had a couple. the shop bought ones from tescos are indestructable. i have the pinata stick behind my fridge near the back door, but may keep it under my bed instead in case of intruders, bloody lethal thing that is lol.

yep we have had one at the boys parties for the last two years, the kids love them, they are great, with supervision its fine.

also if you dont want to fork out ten quid for one, you can make your own, blow up a big balloon and then cover it with several layers of paper mache, obviously you have to do this over about a week to give the layers a chance to dry etc, then when finished let the kids paint it and then you can cut a small hole in the top to put the goodies in and use a needle to thread through some string so you can hang it easy peasy and much cheaper.

PINATAS ARE FAB AND MAKE SURE THAT THE MUMMIES GET A GO AT BASHING IT TOO

Boys of that age absolutely love it. Of course, on all the photos there is me with arms spread in the foreground. But I think it is brilliant and they just have to queue, then we got a chair for the littlies to stand on and have a turn.

Dd1 has been to a coupe of parties with them, and they take ages to braek. But the kids koved it.
At one party, the hook came out of the ceiling so the dad held the pinata whilst stood on a table. Yep, you can imagine, child takes a swing at pinata, misses and falls forward band hits the dad. I thinkt hat wa the point at wjich they tore a hole in it so the kids could have a break and eat some sweets

We had a dinosaur pinata from party pieces. A great success.

You do need an exclusion zone though.

Not sure I could cope with making it in the run up- 2 dinosaur cakes to make complete with choc dot spines!!!!!

Pinatas are fun. The silly bags with Pinata stuff in them are crap. Buy your own stuff.

Hitting the thing keeps 3=5 year olds occupied for about and hour, so you have let them eat, bash a donkey or whatever, then they all argue and swap the sweets for the other half hour and go home

Pinatas should be mandatory.
