Stupid/daft things you've done since becoming a mum

Today I nearly blinded myself! Had my mind on other things, was tired as DD was not sleeping well after having jabs, and I reached for my eye drops to refresh my poor shattered eyes. Dh wondered what on earth was going on when I stumbled out of the bathroom, dripping wet and wearing only a towel (had just had a shower) and screaming that my eye was burning. I had inadvertently put Clinique spot treatment gel into my eye instead, and spent all afternoon at A&E having my eye flushed out with saline! Now I have to suffer an almost-closed eye, bloodshot and oozing pus until the antibiotic cream that they gave me takes effect! What a plonker!

I twice locked my keys in the car with ds before he was 1yo. The first time was outside my parents' house, so no great panic as they had a spare set; but the second time was outside my flat, with my mobile and all my keys inside. Fortunately one of my neighbours has four lovely grown-up sons, two of whom turned up with mobiles and broad shoulders. Very lucky, because when I tried to explain the situation to the AA despatcher I just went to pieces and bawled my head off. And of course the AA man was another knight in shining armour that day!

went to fetch buggy from car whilst DS was asleep, leaving DS in the house, but forgot to take house key and was locked out had to make a reverse charges phone call to DH's work, and get them to phone around to locate DH who was at work

I have done the forgetting the buggy thing, after a fitness class at the local leisure centre, it was DS2 (aged 2) who reminded me, "eh Mummy, where buggy?"

i went to drop my dd at nursery and as soon as i got in the nursery nurses took my ds aged 6 month from me to have a cuddle and show him to the other kids. After i had come out of the office from talking to the proprietor i just started to go to my car unti one of the nurses said have you forgotten something and i said no i don't think so - thinking in my mind what o earth is this woman talking about-only to turn around and remember that i was actually leaving without my son

oh and of course leaving my changing bag behind at Liverpool passport office a few weeks ago (and was apparently within a hairsbreadth of them exploding it and evacuating the building

Mixing several lovely fruit juice cocktails for the kids when on holiday with various cartons of juice only to realise later that the grape juice was actually wine. We didn't speak the language very well and it had been in the chiller cabinet with the juices. The kids were OK honestly!

Secur - hope I didn't offend by saying I remembered my children and you had said earlier you forgot yours!! Very funny story but you must have been hysterical! I hadn't read your message before I wrote mine. Wasn't being smug.

I did a really stupid thing on Thursday.

Went to the post office, posted parcel. Then drove to Sainsburys. Looked in handbag, no purse. I knew I had to have had my purse as I'd just posted a parcel.

Sainsbury man comes and knocks on my door and hands me my purse. It was on the back window, being neatly held on by the windscreen wiper.

Think I must have put it on the roof while putting DS into his car seat.

How stupid am I ??

Picadillycircus! That's just what I was about to say. I was in the car taking dd to nursery and jsut as I was pulling outof the close I was thinking the car seemed awfully dark. I looked up and saw my purse sitting on the sunroof! I must have done the same thing and put it there when I was strapping dd into her car seat - Doh!

My sister phoned for a taxi. When she heard the horn beep, she ran outside, opened the car door and jumped in the back seat, whilst telling the driver where she wanted to go. As she was met with a blank stare, she realised it was not a taxi atall, just someone calling to pick someone else up!!! How embarassing!

My other sister was on an aeroplane. She needed to go to the toilet, but found that the door was really stiff. She gave it a really hard pull, and it opened to reveal the air steward inside sitting on the loo!!!

While pregnant with DS, after filling up with petrol, I got into the back seat of the car instead of the driving seat and couldn't understand where the steering wheel had gone.

I just remembered another one and wondered if this had ever happened to anyone else.
One night, when DS was a very young baby (probably 2 weeks old) my DH was woken up by me, absolutely frantic, rummaging around the bed under the duvet clearly looking for something and saying "Oh my god, where is it?"
DH asked, "Where is what, what have you lost?"
And I looked up, looking terrified and sobbed, "The baby, I can't find the baby!"
DS was sleeping soundly in the moses basket next to me ...

ghosty DH did that with ours - difficult to be nice about when you are being woken up again and it isn't even for a baby (sleep deprivation was not my best time )

It isn't just mums. One morning DH drove into DS2s school then out the other side.. DD had to point out that he hadn't stopped the car & DS2 was still in it.

Another day he got home & asked the children "where's DS1?". "At school" they said. They'd all got in the car & hadn't mentioned one was missing! Poor little love was waiting in the car park when he got back!

I did something really stupid today.My mum & I took DD out in a folding type buggy.Neither of us had ever used one before,but managed to get it unfolded & dd happily esconced in it between us.

When we got back to the car,I put dd in her car seat & we tried to fold the buggy back up again.Well we just couldn't work out how to collapse it & faffed around for ages until I finally managed to do it.Only I managed to fold it back up with my leg stuck in it & it took ages to extricate myself.I had to take my shoe off in the end.Bear in mind that this was at the side of a main road during rush hour,with my mum doubled up laughing at me.
