This dad was kicked out of the labour room for telling a ‘joke’

‘The new dad aged 25 described the midwife as a “joyless hag of a nurse”.‘ 😱

I’ve just seen this on Dadsnet: www.thedadsnet.com/new-dad-kicked-out-of-delivery-room/

What do you think about it? No way my wife would have found that funny in the midst of labour!

I know the ‘extra stitch’ joke has always been there but strikes me as more of a ‘in the pub with your mates’ gag rather than during labour, to your wife.

But I think the midwife may have been a bit OTT!

He sounds out the top and annoying when the MW was just trying to get on with her job - it’s qll about him in the lime light isn’t it?

If the wife wouldn’t do it - I’m glad the MW did

OrchidInTheSun · 10/06/2019 19:27

Why have you posted this in two different places?

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 10/06/2019 19:34

He is clearly mysogintistic (spelling?). We only have his word that is wife who would have been very vulnerable at the time was OK with it. It says a lot that his only concern seems to be on the impact on him and not his wife or child.

Nobody should have to endure verbal abuse at work so yes, she was right to kick him out.

picklemepopcorn · 10/06/2019 20:26

I doubt it was the one comment. It will have been a non stop barrage of attention seeking drivel, with a good dose of misogyny thrown in. His comments about having paid to go private, and unrepentant slagging off of the professional caring for his wife and child demonstrate the kind of insensitive pollock he is.

Teacakeandalatte · 10/06/2019 20:30

I didn't know there was a dadsnet.

LolaSmiles · 10/06/2019 20:32

I would imagine this is one of those 'as if they kicked me out of delivery over ONE joke' when the reality is that he probably wanted to be in the limelight and was getting in the way with his smart mouth.

It's a bit like kids at work who disrupt and disrupt and disrupt and then claim 'I got a detention for just asking a question'.

BettysLeftTentacle · 10/06/2019 20:37

He sounds disgusting. Look at the language he uses about the woman that brought his wife and child healthy and alive through childbirth. And ‘rather than play Russian roulette with the NHS’ What a twat. He basically just paid for a private room, everything else would’ve been the same as NHS maternity services but free. Sounds like the flash idiot thinks money gives him the privilege to be an unfunny dickhead.

JassyRadlett · 10/06/2019 20:37

It’s only a joke if everyone is laughing.

He was abusive towards a person in her place of work. He was not her patient. He was rightly told to leave.

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 10/06/2019 20:38

I think that's the point where I'd have snapped too, in defence of the midwife, in much the same way as if he'd be spouting racist drivel. You get to a point where you think "I'm not paid enough for this shit", really.

Lamkin · 10/06/2019 20:40

I hate hate hate this.
There is no way his wife found that as funny as he did.
I'm glad the midwife pulled him up on it, his only defence was to resort to personal insults.
Twat.

JassyRadlett · 10/06/2019 20:40

Oh hang on I didn’t read the article and thought he’d called the midwife those things to her face.

He still sounds like a total dickhead (who is probably downplaying it for Reddit tbh....)

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 10/06/2019 20:41

Remember that home video of Robbie Williams arseing around and singing while his wife was in labour? You could see he was starting to get on her tits - that man's post is like that. Maybe his wife was okay or maybe he is someone with no awareness that he was annoying the fuck out of her. I know my tolerance levels were through the floor when I was in labour.

Not sure the midwife ought to have thrown him out though unless she was sure he was bugging the woman or being rude to the midwife herself. He sounds like a twat though.

Teacakeandalatte · 10/06/2019 20:43

Yes I would like to hear the MW side of the story.

Laniakea · 10/06/2019 20:44

what a wanker

SP11 · 10/06/2019 21:18

Wasn’t sure which thread to put it in. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The extra stitch thing isn't just a joke is it? There's actually been instances where victims of FGM have given birth and the husbands have tried to have the HCP sew the women back to how they were before birth. Even offering to pay.
Even if he was joking, A) how did they know for sure and would have to check and B) it's probably an issue which irks that midwife a lot.

EleanorReally · 11/06/2019 07:35

eew, it is foul, he is foul, if it is true

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 11/06/2019 07:38

I imagine there is a lot more to it than he has let on.

And the language he uses about the midwife is vile. That’s the woman caring for his wife and child. What an arrogant dickhead.

DirtyBlonde · 11/06/2019 07:41

I'm ready to bet this is a contender for the 'this never happened' awards.

The story's been doing the rounds for years

Isatis · 11/06/2019 08:04

He wasn't kicked out for calling the midwife a joyless hag, he was kicked out for a series of so-called "jokes" about the state of his wife's vulva after the birth. Frankly, if his wife was being stitched up I seriously doubt that she found him as hilarious as he claimed, and I suspect that he was chucked out because the midwife could see that.

BeautifulWintersMorning · 11/06/2019 08:30

Him referring to the midwife as a demented old boiler, joyless hag and miserable old bag tells me all i need to know about the sort of person he is. He will have been severely underplaying quite how much of an arse he was being in the delivery room.

Graphista · 11/06/2019 08:48

"It wa just a joke" is the cry of bullies and bigots everywhere!

He was being a selfish, sexist twat!

IF true and IF his wife was laughing (I'm somewhat sceptical) if I were the midwife I'd be concerned if it was forced due to his being abusive at home and the wife placating this arsehole!

Teacakeandalatte · 11/06/2019 08:58

Exactly a nice person who had just gone too far with the jokes would be mortified and apologise.
