My parents bought a 70s james bond style house with a pool to retire to after living in a boring old cottage in oxshott for years

It is all glass up on a hill over looking the sea with a garden full of buddhas and big plants and it has a wetroom too which is a bit of a kick in the teeth after all the years we spent at home with a lovely green bathroom!

My parents have just sold fab house in Cornwall. They're not sure where they want to buy, so have bought a camper van and are travelling round the British Isles for 6 months.

They are 65 and dad is a very stiff upper lip retired air force officer.

They have bought some string to attach to their dog.

mcnoodle that is so very cool.

i think i'll probably be one of those parents who does odd things periodically, like coming to parents' evenings in a Lily Allen t-shirt or something, and ds (and possibly other, as yet in potentia dc's) will roll their eyes and go "Mum's being weird again"

CodHun · 02/07/2007 10:51

My mum is 80 and she turned up at my house yesterday in a pair of skinny jeans and some timberland trainers .

CodHun · 02/07/2007 10:56

NOWAY!

Hathor · 02/07/2007 10:56

No Mum is not cool. Doesn't know the meaning of the word.

sandyballs · 02/07/2007 10:57

It did look very odd as she's usually an M&S slacks and Clarks shoes kind of lady. Must be having a mid-life crisis .

Mum and Dad went to Amsterdam. Had to pay a visit to a coffee shop. Made tea with their purchase. Just because it's legal in Amsterdam and they had heard it's good for the arthritis. Cool or Weird.

My step dad has taught himself to play bass guitar and joined a band and now plays keiser cheifs and blur covers in pubs. He went to glastonbury, goes every year. They used to always go in their camper van. On saturday him and my mum were going to a rave in a wood.

My MIL (not the witchy STEP one but DH's real mother) had her 66th birthday party recently.
The theme was "Bad Hair Day" so all these crustied turned up with back combed and spiked punk 'dos' ... several of them came dressed as punks.
Anyway, MIL got pissed and fell over ... had to be taken into A&E by her friends ... all the doctors thought it was hilarious ... all these pissed crusties with mad hair ... when usually on a Friday night it was pissed and stoned Teens and 20 somethings.
She needed stitches and couldn't shower for three days apparently so had to go around with pink and purple hair
MIL also wears skinny jeans, is size 8, smokes and is really healthy ... when not falling over when pissed.
Has a face like an old boot though (Kiwi Farmer so many years in the outdoors) and white white hair ... when not pink and purple for Bad Hair Day Party.

She's Cool.

ghosty · 02/07/2007 11:03

She and her mates were bored one day and went to the pictures to see 'Cars'

MaccaMacca · 02/07/2007 11:06

No not really ever. Although my mum has a nice handbag atm....
