.....Does anyone know how I should talk to my kids to stop them talking to me????

DD started talking at 11 months. She is now 10, and off hand, I don't think that she has ever stopped talking

i have a secret weapon at the emo

Blandmum · 14/05/2007 18:46

I once said, 'right the word Mummy is banned, no-one can use it in the car for the rest of the day'

Ds piped up 'Martian, do you know that......'

Relentless, bloody relentless.

Mind you MI and I talked non stop for 2 hours in Starbucks onFriday. I think the staff were quite impressed

what drives me most mad are questions about God. I think they have cottoned on that I'm Not Very Good at these questions and now they are coming non-stop.

ds1 and dd are like this too. I never thought they were that bad until recently when dd went to a friends' for tea. The mother of her friend asked me in the playground the following morning if dd ever stopped talking at home. I think I have become immune to it over time .

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 14/05/2007 18:52

get the cd

foxinsocks · 14/05/2007 19:02

lol

(in bike shop driving bike man mad)

'did God have a bike'

(bike man looks at me, trying to weigh up if we are religious nutters)

me: 'no, I don't think so. Bikes weren't around then'

dd 'but God is always around mummy. That's what we learned at school. So God could have helped make bikes, couldn't he'

me: 'he had other things on his mind and besides, according to the story, God made people and people made bikes'

dd 'why is it a story? so God did help make bikes then even if he didn't make them himself and God is watching now while we buy this bike, isn't he mummy?'

(bike man looking around nervously)

foxinsocks · 14/05/2007 19:04

oooh that looks good....I need some more CDs for the car to ensure a bearable driving experience

rabbitrabbit · 14/05/2007 19:10

I have a 4yr old ds. I nearly crashed the car driving through bushy park when, in his normal mode of "constant chatter" the following came out as a monologue: "mum, will you die" "when?" "do we come back?" "I think we come back" and then changed the subject onto poo!
He wakes up singing and doesn't stop chattering, he follows you from room to room just talking at you!!
Help me please

ChasingSquirrels · 14/05/2007 19:12

Do none of you say "xyz just SHUP UP for 5 minutes please", or does that not work in your house either?

GiantSquirrelSpotter · 14/05/2007 19:12

Give it three years or so and they'll be teenagers and only grunt at you.

Problem solved!

foxinsocks · 14/05/2007 19:14

school rabbit. It's like respite care for us aurally challenged parents. People kept asking if I was sad when ds (my youngest) started school. They were tears of joy I tell you, not sadness. On his first day, I sat in the house for a few hours and READ A BOOK in silence.

Aefondkiss · 14/05/2007 19:19

in desperation we sometimes play the see-who-can-stay-quiet-the-longest game with dd, she can be very good at it, on the other hand, I wish my ds would talk, he is getting there, sometimes I think he can't get a word in edge ways.....

Wallace · 14/05/2007 19:20

I can't believe how mean you all are to your children! Of course they want to share everything with you; you are the centre of their world. And the endless questions? Well, they are just being inquisitive, the precious darlings!

motherinferior · 14/05/2007 19:21

The Starbucks staff looked quite scared

Blandmum · 14/05/2007 19:23

Very

I think that they thought we'd had enough caffeine!

ChasingSquirrels · 14/05/2007 19:26

Aefondkiss - not sure how old your ds is? when I was nearly 2 my mum took me to the docs cos I didn't say a word, while there my bro (4 years older) didn't stop talking. Doc suggested that "maybe she can't get a word in?". I apparently started talking in sentances pretty soon after missing the single and two/three word stage altogether, and I think I can communicate fairly well nowadays
Unless you have other concerns about him then I wouldn't worry too much.

Apatosaurus · 14/05/2007 19:40

i got heaing aids today (after an intermiable wait on the nhs) - have discovered that not only does dd1 talk constantly (running commentary on her life from 7am to 7pm) - it is also damn loud. at least i can take the hearing aids out - dh,ds and dd2 don't have that fortune.
