I ranted before DD was born about the fact I would use real nappies...As DD was my first I thought it sensible to use disposable for the first few weeks until I had my bearings a bit....well I'm ashamed to say DD is nearly 6 months and I am still using nappies that will be killing the earth in many many years to come

So basically need advice on the brand you have got on best with, I did look when PG but felt clueless...TIA

The other thing with both prefolds and swaddlebees is that they fit under most clothes - bulkier fitted nappies only fit under things with plenty of stretch.

makesachange · 19/02/2007 11:48

Sorry Flame.

(You know where I am to ask before you buy any of the brands we do, even if it's not a type we stock )

makesachange · 19/02/2007 11:50

Rosk - sorry, not being rude, but disagree re prefolds. IME they're much bulkier than fitted nappies because the absorbancy is all between the legs and over the bum. Of course, that's with the standard fold (especially so for boys). Angel fold is not hugely different to shaped nappies.

Swaddlebees, of course, as you say, are sliiiiim.

I think I'll end up with a "preloved" section on the site for anything I try and go off

Which AIOs/pockets do you prefer then? (The wonderoo falls down at the edges and irritates me, and the magicall keeps letting us down)

makesachange · 19/02/2007 12:09

Magic-alls sold well-ish for us as they were a nice nappy, however we eventually dropped them due to high numbers being returned due to wicking at the legs and even leaking through the fabric. They're being re-designed and I'm hoping for better results from them. My own DS, your classic heavy wetter, couldn't use them at all, although interestingly now he's starting to use the toilet for about 1/2 his wees he is back in them for fast changes and fast drying over winter. Provided they're only catching an accident, they're great. I wouldn't recommend them as they are, though. It's the microterry inner - fast drying - and nice sizing that I liked.

I hate Kooshies, horrible outer fabric and slow drying. Most other all in ones come up like this IMO. Either too slow to dry, too bulky, not nice wrap, etc.

I've a few Mother-ease AIO which are ok. Nice outer but again slow drying (it's the cotton with only one side to dry from). These are the only ones I'd currently recommend.

Re pockets, I love Swaddlebees regular pockets for their shape but only recommend them to light or medium wetters, or as pull ups as they're not too absorbant. Fit is amazing of course. I dislike the Swaddlebees velour pockets because I see no point in a stuffie which needs a wrap. You can easily layer 2 parts - why take the time to stuff - then when you need to add the wrap as well it's pointless and you may as well have a proper 2 part.

I am not too keen on Fuzzis as, like, SB they're not great for heavy wetters and they're not such a nice fit as SB. I've heard of a lot of Fuzzi failures as well. I don't like the fact that you can't buy the boosters separately.

I like the Mommy's touch nappies, which are B2P. I've not used one but the design looks really good and it's clearly excellent quality - but again as a B2P it doesn't fit brilliantly at either end of the spectrum.

So, in all, I'm not so keen on either AIOs or pockets!!! We only stock Swaddlebees pocket nappies because they have some great advantages over others, but they're still not the right nappy for many (ie heavy wetters). The new design is dramatically superior to the old one, though, I have to say.

Sorry not to be more positive!!!

Its the soaking through the fabric problem that I am having - I loooooooove the slimness, but they are just dead

I nearly went for mommy's touch instead of the swaddlebees, so that could be my next try.

nappyneeds · 19/02/2007 13:08

Its gotta be Swaddlebees pocket for trimness AND quick drying although depending on baby and how much they wet these may need to be changed more. I found all the Swaddlebees to have an amazing fit. The pocket ones that need a wrap offer more absorbancy IME but you still get the great fit without compromising on absorbancy. Plus they are in gorgeous Organic velour and nice colours too! Pockets can always be pre-stuffed to help with ease of use as the pocket AIOs can be hard to get your hand (plus insert) in as they are soo trim. The SB birth to potty have a good fit as well that isnt too bulky for a btp nappy plus an attached booster and an extra booster to popper in if needed but obviously needs a wrap.

I agree with flame - Wam Bamboo are also quite trim and absorbant - IME more so than bamboozles

makesachange - i couldnt tell any difference at all between the Swaddlebees AIO and their pocket. Seemed to be exactly the same nappy unless they accidentally sent me two of the same. Only funnily enough the AIO are slightly more expensive.

Hope this helps

makesachange · 19/02/2007 14:31

Flame, I guess you're meaning the Magic alls are soaking through the fabric? The old SB pockets had the same problem from time to time :-( You can try the old tumble hot trick - can help to seal the PUL. Might not. Otherwise Babykind may well take them back as if they're leaking through the PUL they may be classed as faulty. Worth asking.

Nappy Needs - if you look inside the pocket you should see one of the microterry boosters sown into the all in one. It's basically a pre-stuffed stuffie!!

Nemo2007 · 19/02/2007 14:39

flamesparrow funnily enough my swaddlebees have started leaking the past couple of uses. At first they were fab but now not so good I have hot dried them but no change.

To OP wambamboos all the way..although I also use meos for both DDs and they are great. Of course night nappy has to be a minki huggle

lunavix · 19/02/2007 14:47

The swaddlebees I love is the organic velour one, it's sized but they do a BTP too, with a sewn in booster.

I hate pocket nappies and I hate AIOs lol

makesachange · 19/02/2007 17:26

Nemo, did you get your Swaddlebees from us?

Luna, the B2P Swaddlebees is gorgeous, but not as well fitting as the 3 size, obviously.

Pockets or stuffies are nappies that need to have padding stuffed inside them to make them absorbent, the idea being that you use as much or as little padding as your baby needs.

JustJAMtart · 19/02/2007 18:01

Thanks for that...you are all being so helpful I really appreciate it

still feels daunting to be honest...so may brands, which to get?????

The only thing I can decide on is that I'm pants at making decisions....
