Do you think you're a better parent than your parents were with you?

I think it's pretty common to hear people say that they will never say or do certain things that their parents did, but do you think you make a better parent than your parents were with you as a child?

I think i'm better than my Dad was (unapproachable, grumpy, not hands on, treated us like a hinderance) but not as good as my mother was (she is far more patient, and swears much less!)

I really hope I will be as good a parent as my mum and dad were/are. Dad was a teacher and I think seeing so many kids all the time gave him a really good perspective on what was and wasn't worth getting in a tizz about when bro and I were teenagers. I hope I can do that (currently terrified of most teenagers). Although mum and I have never been very close , she had a horrible childhood of her own to overcome and I think she did a fab job. I wish they lived closer to me and that I could ask them for more help. Only thing I know I'm going to change is I will not tell DS what a horrible baby he was (not sleeping/eating etc) - they thought I took all those comments about me light-heartedly, and I DIDN'T. Put me off having kids of my own till I was 34, I thought it would be so hard! Babies are much more fun than they said...

No, nothing like as good as my mum. in fact i can't bear to think how much worse at it all I am than her. life is hard even with such a great mum - how tough will ds have it with just me?

oh well, maybe he will toughen up younger than i did and run the country or something

I know my parents did their best and loved me unconditionally.

So no, I don't consider myself to be better than them.
