Can I just show off a little?

My 4 month old DD is just fab!!
Sleeps all night, smiles all day.
Only cries when she needs fed and grumbles a little when she's tired.
Took her on a 4 hour drive to PIL for christmas and she travelled soo well and did nothing but smile at all the strange new people whos laps she was passed from and to.
Swimming this morning and a shower after and no grumbles.
Where is the catch?
Is badness on its way?
I am gonna get it when no2 arrives aren't I?

DS was an absolute angel till about 18 months, similar to your DD. Then he became a normal standard issue stroppy toddler, and much harder work. But lots of people say he is well behaved, so I guess that he is fab in toddler terms.

Yep. Then or when she's a teenager no-one gets away unscathed.
Just be careful, don't put her wonderfulness down to your perfect parenting, that one really comes back to bite you on the arse.
And looses you friends!!

Am very pleased for you but the first rule of parenting - don't speak too soon!!! Like when I said ds2 never had tantrums and he started the next day, or ds1 "doesn't cry when he goes to nursery any more" and guess what happened next time I took him!

She sounds very happy to be your dd so enjoy it while it lasts!

I am just so happy that she is a smiler. Her cousin, on DH side just looks at you. Quite un-nerving when you get no response.
I am sure your toddler is lovely, your standards will just be higher, I suspect, cos they were such a well behaved baby?

Oh, God I know!
I am careful not to say anything like that, but PIL are always saying it for me.
I do worry about it biting Me on the bum later. Especially as i never said it in the first place but what can you do? (shrug)

also the compliments tend to start fading away between the 12-18 month stage, when they are evidently not a cute little baby anymore!

they are all little individuals, no doubt that the less smiley cousin will be better than your child at something whether it be football/reading/imaginative play/climbing up the slide or working the video..

DS was an angel baby now at 18 months he is definately testing the boundaries. DD 11 weeks is if possible even more angelic, I just thank my lucky stars I get a good nights kip, I'm sure there will be trouble ahead if they take after their parents

I have just realised, even my nickname sounds smug!
But I was thinking more along the lines of my
cat!!
Yes, the cousin has a totally different set of parents so will be a totally different child.
Excited to see how they get on!!

I sense you do beleive this is down to your excellent parenting (cousin has differnt parents etc), I also sense a rather large hole before you. Be warned.

Sorry, I meant when they grow up, or when they are toddlers, it will just be nice to see them together as they are related.
I will stop now though.
I am happy to have a lovely little girl and wanted to share my joy with other mums who I am sure feel the same, that their wee ones couldn't be more perfect!

And I am sure you are right, I will be back in a year telling tales of my tantrum toddler and dreaming of the days when I was showing off!
And I didn't mean any offence to my DH family, we are all different with different qualities so we will end up having and raising different kinds of kids.
I am, by nature, a smiley person and that is why I am glad my DD is a smiler to.
But as you say all that can change in a day!

Enjoy! Dd3 flew to New York at 6 weeks and Bahamas at 4 months and slept both ways on both flights. She was great on both holidays - same at 7 months in Venice. She's still mellow and great fun. Never (well rarely) grizzles. It does get harder travelling with kids (and know - I have 4) but happy children are a blessing. In my experience if they start out relaxed they tend to stay that way.

Aaah I used to take DS round the supermarket being chased by every old lady in the place because he was such a charming, smiley little cutie and they all wanted to fuss over him and pinch his cheeks. Literally, they would be tracking me down and making sure they got behind us in the checkout queue so they could ogle him and coo over him. I miss that! Now he's 18 months and a typical toddler and all the fans have disappeared. If I'm lucky I get complimented on my patience with him!

Yes! Thats what I meant, thats the kind of things I wanted to hear.
I know she is good now and I know it has very little to do with anything I have done, what possible differene can my parening make to a 4 month old?
It is lovely to hear about other mummies who have lovely babies and real stories about how they have, or have, not remained that way. And or those who had a tough time with their little ones, but they turned out to be perfect toddlers.
I was beginning to feel a little disheartened for a bit there and almost wished I had not said a word.
Thank you you guys I will sleep a little better now.

DS1 still has loads of fans in supermarkets and he's nearly three However, it's more to do with his curly hair and mad toddlerish observations of his surroundings - as well as his insistence that he sits "strapped in" in the trolley on the way round

I am also very well aware that it's not the way I parent that's made him like this - can't be, I'm not that good at it!

Oh puurfectmummy DO enjoy your wonderful little girl, she sounds great!! Why not boast a little about her? We boast when they walk, talk etc etc and our parenting has as little to do with those achievements as it does their general demeanor.

DS was vile as a tiny baby (until maybe 4 months), but is so smiley and happy now (22 months) and I treasure every moment with him. I keep getting told how 'well I have done with' DS... Huh? I have done nothing he is just a happy little boy, and I thank the lord for that every day.

Blimey - you're brave! Fancy posting on mumsnet saying you actually enjoy your beautiful little girl! I've long since realised that most of the mums are only happy on here when they're moaning about their babies or their lives! I'm SO pleased you're happy. I've got an adorable little boy too and am very very proud of him. We went to local suipermarket tonight with him dressed as a fire fighter (xmas pressie) and I felt so proud that we brought a smile to so many peoples' facea!
