OK, here goes, I have 9 week old ds who has started to sleep around 9 hrs at night from about 9pm - 6am (ish) then we get up, get dressed etc. and take dd to school. ds usually falls asleep about 8am (ish) - nap length varies daily. QUESTION....If I were to put ds to bed earlier - he is usually tired by 7ish, would he then wake 9 hrs later and expect to start the day? Or would he just fall asleep cossa the silent feeding in the dark thing? I really want to take the plunge but I'm scared of having a smiling, cooing baby at 4am! Help!!!!!!!!!

Jambot and Biglil, don't think waking is due to cold matress as he is in a grobag.
Also Biglil - he sleeps for 7 hrs in a stretch from about 10pm - 5am then again til I have to wake him at 7am -(I have dd of 8yrs). I want to bring his bedtime forward but he won't settle!

What time does he have his last nap? I think you should try baby whisperers easy routine. It stands for eat activity sleep you. So it would prob be best to start it off in the morning when he wakes up. Feed him a good feed, then lie him on a play mat or something for activity, then when he starts to show signs of tiredness put him down in his cot to sleep. Then you is you time untill he wakes u again, then you feed him then play then sleep again. It helps give structure to your day, having an 8 yr old aslwell you probably really need some kind of routine ao that he's predictable.
Ive got the baby whisperer book here, I shall have a look through it for you.
pupd method is baby whisperers pick up put down method. I think you can start doing it when babys 4months old. Hopefully by then you will have got it sorted.

thank you lornaloo. That is exactly what I have been working on these last coupel of days the wake, feed, play, sleep thing. So pleased that I am doing what is right! It was going Ok until todya when ds had an awful day. Really fretful and unhappy . Now of course he is wide awake and full of the joys of spring! I will get the baby whisperer book form library tomorrow and give it a read.
Thank you for your help. I'll report back on how things are going.[happy]
