A quick question: How many of you have 3 yr olds that still wear nappies at night?

My dd2, just turned 3 ( child no.4 ) has been dry by day for a few months now ( has the odd accident) but still has a really wet nappy in the morning. I'm sure my others were dry at night by now. I'm not that worried, but not sure whether to leave it or try and just take the blooming things off. What have others here done?

All kids are different. Ds trained at 2.2yrs and was dry at night at 2.6yrs..well I say dry to be honest his nappies were still soaking of a morning but he insisted he didnt want a nappy at all so we gave it a go and he has had around 3 accidents since and he is 3 next month.

Blackduck · 20/09/2006 13:49

ds three and a bit - still in night time nappies......waiting really for his cue on this one...

kittywits · 20/09/2006 14:35

This is all so reassuring, thanks, didn't realise the time to start worry was at 7, blimey!

Ds was still in nappies at night well into his third year. I made sure he had very little to drink after 6 and when I went to bed (11 or 12ish) I would lift him and take him to the loo. Definitely preferable to soggy bed in the morning. I would still lift him (he barely wakes I should add) if he's had alot to drink in the evening, he's nearly 6 now.

Pidge · 20/09/2006 14:56

My dd is 4 and firmly in nappies at night.

I was told by my HV not so long ago to try lifting her on the loo before we went to bed. I thought this was bunkum and so did most of the people on MN when I posted about it. Anyway, we thought we had nothing to lose by giving it a go. Dd weed copiously before bed at 7pm (having not drunk a lot at tea time), we lifted her onto the loo at 10pm, at which point she weed a lot more, and at 11pm she was in our bedroom because her bed was sopping wet.

So we said "Yah, boo, sucks" to the HV and are happily putting her in nappies till it looks like she is good and ready to be dry at night. Waiting for that ol' hormone to kick in I guess!

Pidge · 20/09/2006 14:57

Sorry - not wishing to imply that lifting your child onto the loo is bunkum if it works for you. Just our dd seems some way off being able to go through the night dry .

mine.

she's dry during the day, though.

we have just got rid of the nighttime nappy (DD1 is 4 in Oct) and have reinstated the potty in her bedroom, we have so full sucess so far, but having now posted this i know it will go to pot!

Manoo · 20/09/2006 15:11

My ds, 3.4, has been having a nappy at night. Some mornings it's dry, some wet, so I thought we weren't ready to go without yet.

Last night for the first time, he woke twice and asked to go to the toilet! I reckon it'll just happen when she's ready.

nearlythree · 20/09/2006 16:15

My hv says lifting works with some children, not others.

katierocket · 20/09/2006 16:16

DS is 5 in Oct and still in pull ups at night. They are soaking in the morning so can't see he's ready.

loopylou49 · 20/09/2006 16:35

Hi- my son was 3 in April and still wears nappy at night. He is a heavy sleeper and heavy wetter- his nappies explode at night- and has never been dry in the morning. I am just hoping and waiting for the morning he is dry!!! I am not worried about it at all- like everyone else just expect him to grow out of it at some point!!

kittywits · 20/09/2006 18:06

The reassurances get more and more
Mine still has 1 accident a day I reckon, due to tiredness, which I also find very frustating.
My girls have been SO much harder to train than my boys.

my 3 year old still wears nappies during the day!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/09/2006 18:08

DS1 was 6 on Saturday and still isn't dry at night. He's been out of nappies (at his request) for about 3 months) but still wets the bed at least 5/6 times a week

yeahinaminute · 20/09/2006 18:31

My 3.9 yr old DD is still in pull ups at night - she too is a heavy sleeper and when I did try her without it all went a bit Pete Tong as we went away during the 2nd week - so I put her back in pull ups !!
During the no nappy routine I put a mat over the matress, then a sheet, then another mat then another sheet - so in the night I only had to pull off the top sheet and mat ... and change her etc etc

Like the others I have decided not to stress about and when she's ready I'll "de- nappy" her !!

FlameSparrow · 21/09/2006 11:10

3.4 and still in em, and looks to be for a long time to come. Been dry for ages during the day.

ginmummy · 21/09/2006 11:17

DS is 3 in 12 days and he's not dry during the day yet but we're working on it.

tiredemma · 21/09/2006 11:20

Ds was 3 in July, nowhere near ready to be without a nappy at night, he has been day dry for about 10 mths but nights are still a problem.

Anchovy · 21/09/2006 11:25

By the way I had the opposite with DS. He potty trained pretty successfully at 2.2 and immediately thereafter refused to wee in his nappy at night (I assumed we would have another 6-12 months of night time nappies after we were nappy free during the day). Therefore he would wake up in the middle of the night asking to be taken for a wee (and his bedroom is on another floor to ours). DH would be saying through the monitor "oh FGS just do it in your nappy" but once he had stopped doing it in a nappy there was no way he would just do it.

I would have begged to have a three year old in night nappies!

hana · 21/09/2006 11:38

dd1 was dry during day time from about 2.6 and wore nappies at night for about one more year

poppiesinaline · 21/09/2006 12:00

DS1 and DD both wore nappies at night until a week before their 5th birthday and then were just dry I dont plan on even thinking about it with DS2 until he is nearly 5.

kittywits · 21/09/2006 13:01

Maybe we actually had a bit of a breakthrough last night. For the first time ever DD2 woke up to go for a wee! Of course she had already done lots in her nappy, but it's a tiny step in the right direction.
