A quick question: How many of you have 3 yr olds that still wear nappies at night?

My dd2, just turned 3 ( child no.4 ) has been dry by day for a few months now ( has the odd accident) but still has a really wet nappy in the morning. I'm sure my others were dry at night by now. I'm not that worried, but not sure whether to leave it or try and just take the blooming things off. What have others here done?

My twins (turned 3 in June) are wearing nappies at night-not long since they stopped wearing them in the day either!! TBH I hadn't even considered not putting nappies on at night. Sometimes they are dry though in the morning. Maybe I'm just up for an easy life

Freddiecat · 19/09/2006 22:43

i have a 4.5 yr old still in nappies at night. if we forget he totally wets the bed. very heavy sleeper.

apparently you have to wait for a hormone to kick in anytime between age 2 and 5 which tells them to wake up and not wee in their sleep. docs don't consider it a problem until 5.

catj · 19/09/2006 22:44

Should add they are both girls (if that makes any difference?)

My four yr old decided recently that she didn't want to wear her nappies any more but has no idea when she needs to go, so we often have wet beds (lifting her not being an option since she started school and is in too deep a sleep to be woken).

But she late learning to use the loo as well.

dd was over 3 and still wearing nappies at night. I waited until the nappies were dry overninght for about 4 months plus befoere I left them off altogether - so maybe 3.5?

btw she was potty trained at 2.6 and using the toilet all the time about 3/4 months later

Ds is 5.7 years and still wears a nappy at night.

Freddiecat
I thought that hormone kicked in between 2 and 7 years?

SaintGeorge · 19/09/2006 23:07

DS2 (5.3) in pullups at night. Sometimes he is great and goes to the loo, other times he just sleeps waaaaay too heavily. Was dry for most of the holidays but wet 3 nights out of 7 since school started again.

I'm not going to stress about it unless he is still bedwetting at 7.

gingernut · 19/09/2006 23:07

I thought the upper limit was 7 years too. My ds is nearly 5 and still in nappies at night.

SaintGeorge · 19/09/2006 23:08

7 yrs old that is, not 7 nights out of 7

lazybluealien · 19/09/2006 23:09

5 yr old still in pullups at night

Tommy · 19/09/2006 23:29

I have a 3 year old still in pull-ups at might and they are mostly dry in the morning and a 4.8 year old in Dry-Nites or something like that which are always soaked every morning.

Glassofwine · 19/09/2006 23:34

DS1 age 3 1/2 has been mostly dry at night since he was potty trained around his thrid birthday. Still has the occassional accident at night - say once a fortnight. DD2 was the same, but DD1 was still in a nappy at night until she started school at 4 - ish which took some effort as the pullups were soaking in the morning and she just didn't seem ready. It depends on the child, don't worry.

my 3.5 yr old is still in nappies and continues to tell me hes done nothing in them even when the whole family has evacuated the house due to the aroma coming from him.ive tried him without and hes just not ready (or interested)

kittywits · 20/09/2006 06:37

Thank so much ladies. You know I had never heard of the hormone. How interesting. I feel alot more reassured now

ms ds is 3 in nov and has very wet nappy every morning

throckenholt · 20/09/2006 07:51

me - my twins were 3 in Jan - nowhere near dry at night. In fact one of them removed his nappy last night before going to sleep and then wet the bed before I discovered he had removed it.

DS1 on the other hand was pretty much dry at night at this age.

kittywits · 20/09/2006 07:59

I would hate to have to potty- train twins, must be a nightmare !

MY 4.5 yr old DD is still in nappies at night, we have the very odd dry night, but nappy is usually wet in the morning, she is a very heavy sleeper!

BarefootJasnem · 20/09/2006 08:14

DD1 was in nappies at night until almost 5, and was forced into night toilet training because I tried her in pullups and she reacted so badly to the elastic that I couldn't put anything on her!

throckenholt · 20/09/2006 08:16

like many things with twins - it is a bit of a blur - you just do what has to be done - since there is no choice !

kittywits · 20/09/2006 09:28

I'm glad there are so many of you out there with children still in nappies at night. i think with my others i decided to night train them and it happened quite quickly, but with this one i can't be bothered!

My ds turned 3 this month, is still in pull ups at night....he has just started to want to wear his pants but we have far too many accidents so physically he's not ready...mentally he wants to be though!

3sEnough · 20/09/2006 13:43

I have a 3 and a 6 yr old still in nappies at night! The 6 yr old is just starting to 'dry up' though so hopefully should produce a few dry nights in a row soon - I'm just not fussing - can't be bothered!lol

Resentful · 20/09/2006 13:46

I have a 5 year old who is still in nappies at night - she's nowhere near ready to drop them, she's dripping wet every morning.

It's not a big deal; when she's ready she's ready. The doctors don't consider it a problem until they're 7; by that time the hormone should have kicked in that suppresses urination overnight.
