Jewellery on a baby

I guess this is down to personnal choice but what do you think about a baby wearing jewellery.

My daughter will be 1 next week and my Gran has bought her a very simple gold bracelet. I am not really sure what I think but my husband is horrified at it and is very against her wearing it. He says he thinks it looks cheap and tacky to put any jewellery on a baby. I agree with him to a point but a little bit of me thinks the braclet is harmless and looks quite pretty on her.

I guess the simple solution is for me to only put it on her when she is in the company of my Gran but it got me thinking about what people think of seeing jewellery on a baby.

Well i hat e to stand on anyones toes but i think its really sweet. mu dd has two gold baby bangles, one of which has her name on,she has a silver chain with crucifix bought by gran for her naming ceremomy and she has had her ears pierced since she was 7 months old(she is now 17 months). She has never had a problem with any of it as she has worn it since so young it is nothing unusual to her to have it on.I think some of this comes from the fact that she is my only dd after 2 ds's and the first and only grandaughter. Sorry all those who i offend.

Morgans are naughty though, FF - you wouldn't want one really. Nice idea though - you could always add it as a middle name?

forestfly · 23/03/2004 19:30

Yep she was naughty

Kylie Jodie (BLECH!), Kevin Storm -- almost passable.

wobblyknicks · 23/03/2004 19:50

Think babies are all absolutely perfect as they are, so any jewellery can only make them look worse, and it always does. By the time we're older, the wrinkles set in and the ugly stick does its work so some of us need an extra lift but babies should stay without anything like that.

hmb · 23/03/2004 19:56

I once took the kids to an indoor play area. The woman in charge drew my attention to te notice that all piercings had to be removed from the children. I looked horrified and she told me that she had seen lots of little girls with belly buttons pierced. Dreadful, child abuse! What next, tattoos?

CountessDracula · 23/03/2004 19:58

I had a cat called Morgan too - also named after a (male) friend.

I think nipple piercings look particularly attractive on the under 1s

forestfly · 23/03/2004 20:02

Cd how true, and tattoos

jampot · 23/03/2004 20:08

I went onto Friendsreunited the other day and noticed there was a new "lass" on the site who I had gone to school with. She was a chav of the highest order and her daughter's called "Britney". I almost p'ed myself laughing. Also there was a local story some years ago about a baby called "Metro" 'cos that's where she was conceived and we all thought Posh & Becks were the first!!!

stupidgirl · 23/03/2004 20:37

I hate little ones with piercings, I don't think it should be allowed for under 10's and certainly not for under 5's. How can anyone hold a tiny child down and put a hole through their flesh? And WHY???? I don't understand why any parent would want to do that to their child.

Have those of you who have had their child's ears pierced got piercings yourselves???

sykes · 23/03/2004 20:42

FF, you didn't mention your boys' nose piercings. Why?
