I forgot to strap dd in her seat once, seat was fixed in though!

beckybrastraps · 09/08/2006 17:56

I've done it. Didn't mean to.

Could have been a mistake.

theladyvanishes · 09/08/2006 17:56

I know where he works (god that makes me sound like a stalker ) and i really felt like reporting him

We did it once - dh had put dd into the car and a few minutes after we set off I looked back and realised he'd not strapped her in. I was horrifed - not so much angry at him, but shocked at how easily he'd forgotten to do it. He was mortified too and has never done it since.

theladyvanishes · 09/08/2006 17:59

i made dh stop the other coz the strap came loose (she was still strapped in iyswim) but i thought it would take one idiot to plough into us

Reporting him to whom?

Tommy · 09/08/2006 18:31

I see it all the time - children not strapped in, babies not in car seats etc.
TBH, I'm not sure the police would thank you for reporting it every time you saw it.

handlemecarefully · 09/08/2006 18:34

Glad you didn't report him since it was probably a distracted one off mistake....

Good Point!

handlemecarefully · 09/08/2006 18:39

I'm sure sometimes people think my 4 year old isn't appropriately strapped in, because she opens the rear car door herself, sits down and fastens an adult seat belt. From outside it isn't obvious that our Volvo has an integral rear centre booster seat....

pablopatito · 10/08/2006 08:43

We've done it twice, and after the second time we drove straight to Toyrus and bought a new seat that comes with a base so it wouldn't happen again. I'd rather buy a new seat for £80 than rely on my memory.

JonesTheSteam · 10/08/2006 08:46

I've done it once - the car-seat was strapped in, but not DS. Luckily, we were at an out-of-town shopping area and I realized almost straight away, so pulled into the next shop's carpark and strapped him in.

Have never done it since!!!!

Bozza · 10/08/2006 08:46

I've done it with DS - once in the babyseat, once in the stage 1 seat and once didn't listen for the click of the belt as he fastened himself in and turned round to find that his belt wasn't fastened.

fuzzimal · 10/08/2006 09:35

Once saw a woman come out off a shop with little baby fast asleep on shoulder ,but then she gets into car baby still asleep on shoulder and drives off.

theladyvanishes · 10/08/2006 09:46

he might well have had one of those clip on base things, tbh i thought they were for older children and not teeny babies, shows how much i know!

A few weeks ago I saw a little girl of about five, sitting in the front of a white van with her parents. No seatbelt whatsoever. And her mom was smoking. I thought to myself at the time 'tssk, what would mumsnetters think?'

theladyvanishes · 10/08/2006 10:10

funny once i became a mother i started noticing of those things

tlv no they are the infant carriers. They have only been introduced in the last few years though so I never had one.

themoon66 · 10/08/2006 10:40

It was probably not intentional. Ive done it once myself. DD was in front passenger seat in backwards facing britax seat. Police van pulled alongside at the lights. Copper gets out, knocks on my window. 'You are meant to put the seatbelt around the baby seat madam'.

God I felt such a fool. Hope he didnt think i'd been driving around like that since the birth.

Riddo · 10/08/2006 11:31

We drove two junctions down the M11 before ds piped up with "Mum, I'm not strapped in". DH and I both assumed the other one had done it. I've never done it again as I was completely horrified at what might have happened.

MerlinsBeard · 10/08/2006 11:35

how do u know it wasn't strapped in? do u mean with the harness on the car seat? or that the car seat wasn't strapped in?

Our first car seat had a n autobase so was just a case of clicking it onto base and shutting the door, could it have been one of those?
