i caught my DD today (13) doing something i am almost ashamed to write. i decided not to change my name - becuase, well.. you would guess by the spelling mistakes, i am almost bside myself.

i walked into the living room and she was watching........Coronation street.

this shock has come only weeks after my DS has become addicted to eastenders whiolst athis girlfriends.

i thought it was bad when he was smoking drugs - but this is almost too much to bare.

can someone help?

Shock sandyballs!

I think you ought to be ashamed for laughing at the desperately sad dilemma faced by the OP.

She has been brave facing this family crisis and you find it a matter of fun! Disgusting.

Sorry.

I am holding back the tears even as I type this.

Custardo. I am sorry for your loss. I wish there was more that I could say; but mere words do not seem to be enough to articulate the utter sadness I feel for you and your family as you battle through this tough situation.

Perhaps you should just do it.

Just.

Lock her in the shed.

I think it is probably the best thing to do in the long run.

I am sorry.

Here for you if you need any support / help.

maltesers · 10/05/2006 11:35

OMG Custardo i thought you had given them away or something awful. Thought they had decided to leave home and gone.. Thats ok to watch these soaps.. you are having a laugh !

bummer · 10/05/2006 11:58

Seriously custardo, I would set the kitchen timer every time they sit down to watch it and then show them just how much of their young and precious lives they are actually wasting. Explain how their bums will spread and their brains will well it doesn't bear thinking about. You have my sympthaties really you do (especially as I'm addicted to both!).

THANKS FOR THE LAUGH!

lucykate · 10/05/2006 11:58

be prepared, if you decide to go cold turkey with them and change the channel, you will have to do alot of rapid returns on the remote control.

or perhaps try a pasta jar reward system for episodes they miss.

or other treats if they don't like pasta, maybe a sausage roll?

meowmix · 10/05/2006 12:18

or maybe you could introduce some heuristic play into their lives - I'm sure a little bit of pine cone interaction could work wonders for them

unicorn · 10/05/2006 13:41

Custy I think you need to LEAVE MUMSNET...
You have proved not to be worthy.

I worry about the third child - have the SS been involved yet?

winnie · 10/05/2006 13:44

niceglasses · 10/05/2006 13:47

The girl has taste imo.

Corrie is sometimes my reason to get thru the day. Its ace.

Well done custy for instilling such fine principles I say......

Katiedale73 · 10/05/2006 15:13

Well, because of my now outcast younger sister, who used to pick DD up from nursery on a Monday evening and take her home for me, one of DD's earliest words was....EMMERDALE!

Oh, the horror, the depravation. We didn't leave the house for months, until she'd forgotten it and didn't say it anymore.

Muchos sympathy Custy, but suspect it may well be too late for your son. Footballers Wives indeed!

Tortington · 10/05/2006 15:15

i hate emmerdale. i hate the music, the Ham acting the sets.

After a childhood of no soaps and very little tv, my dd has become addicted to Neighbours. Just shows, it doesn't matter what you say as a parent, they just do what they like.

yeahinaminute · 11/05/2006 13:06

...... " My name is Custy and I am the mother of soap addicts" Grin

Maybe you could get them on a 12 step programme at the Priory ...... ??

Flum · 11/05/2006 13:16

You wanna get them off that tatt and onto quality soaps - like HOLBY yayyyyyyyy !!!!

fairyjay · 11/05/2006 13:22

Corrie is the only thing me and dd agree on!

Nightynight · 11/05/2006 13:23

Get rid of the telly. Now. This minute.
