What makes your child happy, what makes them sad?

I asked the dds this yesterday and thought the answers were revealing...

dd1 (6)
: when mummy is cross with me
: when mummy gives me cuddles on the sofa
(terrifying to see how large I loom on her emotional scale!)

dd2(3)
: breaking things
: picnics

What would/do your kids say?

happy: 'stories'
sad: 'Smarteenies' (ds is absolutely phobic about this programme, esp 'the red man')

GDG · 24/01/2006 21:32

Fab thread. I've posted on here so tomorrow I can go on 'threads I'm on' and remember to ask the ds's and report back

Yes my ds1 hates smarteenies too! He's 4.5

Lacrimosa · 24/01/2006 21:41

Happy loads of tickles!
Sad loads of being shouted at!
Yes I know its not good to do it but I personally prefer it to a smack.

Aloha · 24/01/2006 21:59

How interesting there are other Smarteenies phobics around. Ds hides in the hall when we first put Cbeebies on for him, just in case Smarteenies is on.

edam · 24/01/2006 22:18

Ooh, will have to ask ds tomorrow. My guess would be

being told 'no' or being told off
seeing diggers, tickles, cuddles, dancing, hiding

will see if I've got this right!

edam · 24/01/2006 22:18

He's 2.5 btw.

soapbox · 24/01/2006 22:21

DD getting an email from her friend
losing at anything!

DS getting a 5* in his shoot out (football) cards
doing homework

lunavix · 24/01/2006 22:22

ds (21 months) loves girls aloud, the baby on the teletubbies, food and pink buggies

I think he dislikes not being able/allowed to do something, sharing me all the time, his buggy (ie real one)

TwoIfBySea · 24/01/2006 22:23

Is it the woman with her mouth hanging open as she makes stupid thumb paint pictures that puts them off Smarteenies? 'Cause she'd make me phobic!

expatinscotland · 24/01/2006 22:27

Thre isn't a lot that makes her sad, but sharks do, for some reason. She's 2.6. Also being denied biscuits, sweeties or other forbidden foods.

Just about everything makes her happy.

She's one of those joyful children who's a pleasure to parent.

kleist · 24/01/2006 22:33

Dd 3.3:

when you have to go to work
[happy] playing games and stories with you and my favourite toys

It made me think it's really very simple in her mind isn't it?

kleist · 24/01/2006 22:33

Sorry I forgot how to do a

edam · 25/01/2006 09:25

Well, I got that one completely wrong! When I asked ds (2.5) he said 'errm, let me think about it' and then replied:

Spencer (from Balamory, I think).
plastic.

Need a confused emoticon.

Angeliz · 25/01/2006 09:28

pmsl Franny

Must ask dd when she gets in from School as i love these.

GDG · 25/01/2006 12:07

Asked mine this morning

ds1 (4.10)
'when the sun's out and it's not raining and I can play in my big garden out there'
when someone pushes me at school...the big juniors pushed me over yesterday and I fell on my back

ds2 (3.2)
'my dad'
'ds3s breakfast(?)....when my chair falls over and I cry and I tell my dad'

ds3 (17 months) - too young to ask so on his behalf I'd say
food of any kind, being sung to, tickled, running down the hallway with his brothers
not being able to eat food mummy is eating, not being allowed to get out of the buggy in the playground (I do let him sometimes, honest, but it gets busy and he'll get knocked over!)

fennel · 25/01/2006 12:10

i asked dd1 age 5 what makes her happy. she said "reading to my teachers at school". hmm. suspect that's what she thought i'd like to hear most.
