What makes your child happy, what makes them sad?

I asked the dds this yesterday and thought the answers were revealing...

dd1 (6)
: when mummy is cross with me
: when mummy gives me cuddles on the sofa
(terrifying to see how large I loom on her emotional scale!)

dd2(3)
: breaking things
: picnics

What would/do your kids say?

I have just asked my ds2 (3)

He said

Horrid things

Weetos and Mr Bean!

beejay · 24/01/2006 13:35

My 6 year old dd would prob say exactly the same as you enid!

Pip · 24/01/2006 13:38

DS1 would probably say:
not having a Kinder egg
having a Kinder egg

He is ruled by his stomach.

I shall ask him later & report back.

Shes 16 months but if she could tell me

me playing row row your boat with her and pulling her back and forth doing the actions, anything teletubby related, and seeing my brother Ashley "ASH!!!"

ASH going home, not being allowed to walk to the park on her own, doesnt like holding my hand, and yappy bitey dogs

WigWamBam · 24/01/2006 13:46

Funny you should ask the question, Enid, because dd was telling me that her teacher asked her the same question yesterday.

: "when Cattie (her soft toy cat) falls out of bed in the night and I can't find her to cuddle so I get sad and lonely and frightened, because Cattie makes me feel safe at night"
[happy]: "cuddles with Mummy"

Thomcat · 24/01/2006 13:49

dd1 4yrs old (has down's syndrome)

[happy] : pretty much everything! me picking her uo from school, going to school, seeing her sister after 5 minutes of not seeing her, going over speed bumps, me beeping the horn, music and us dancing with her, any disney dvd that was ever made, yoghurts, toast, cuddles, trying to bum shuffle away and me pulling her back, having a story read to her, being tucked in.

: having her hair brushed, not being allowed to bum shuffle somewhee she wants to go but can't, driving past the houses of people she knows and not going in, being made to try and walk

cathyspam · 24/01/2006 13:54

DS1 (2.5) cheese and stories
having hair washed

DS2 (12 months) giving him eskimo kisses
having a bath

saadia · 24/01/2006 14:04

ds1, 4 today, said

when you're horrible to me

when you're nice

Elibean · 24/01/2006 14:26

hide and seek, making cakes, bathtime, climbing equipment, the flirty waiter at the local pasta place, Mummy, Daddy, and Cat (cuddly). Not necessarily in that order.

hairwashing, owls, unexplainable noises.

She's just 2...

alicatsg · 24/01/2006 14:48

trucks, cranes, diggers, general building equipment, the cat, watching the Wizard of Oz, painting and the potty

having to have naps, Mummy refusing to watch Wizard of Oz more than once a day

mazzystar · 24/01/2006 14:54

too young to say but i'd guess

going in the garden, looking at books, bananas, his new wellies, the bath

nap-time, anything less than 100% attention at any time

mememum · 24/01/2006 15:04

"grating carrot makes me happy, but the cheese is a bit annoying" ??

"just the cheese makes me sad, that's annoying for me"

Maybe should have asked at a time when he was not completely engrossed in helping with the dinner....

Hulababy · 24/01/2006 18:00

Just asked DD (3y9m)

: playing with toys; watching Dora; family cuddles with mummy and daddy (yes - in that order!)

: crying because not allowed to do what she wants

Stilltrue · 24/01/2006 18:10

ds3 is 24m
cars, diggers, his garage, his cuddly dog ("Woof"), fish, cheese, apples, his big brothers and sister (if they play with his garage alongside him), walking anywhere out of doors, but not in a straight line.

holding my hand when walking outdoors, getting out of the bath, sitting in his buggy, not being allowed a fleet of hard metal toy cars in his cot at bedtime, his siblings if they don't want to play alongside him with the toy garage.

TwoIfBySea · 24/01/2006 21:22

Dst1 aged 4 : singing, playing with his twin brother, building with anything, nursery school, storytime, lorries, going to the 'dinosaur' museum, the JCB song (yes, still!)

: having to go to bed, getting his hair washed, being told off.

Dst2 : animals in particular meerkats, bridges, drawing, painting, making 'models' in nursery, dancing, making up songs, volcanoes.

: being a twin (!), not being allowed to do whatever he wants whenever he wants, when mummy is upset at him.

Feistybird · 24/01/2006 21:29

DD aged 5

playing with Polly Pockets, watching TV and hugging Mum

going to school

(She has never objected/cried/whinged about going to school, so this throws considerable doubt on her answers.....
