So, I know it is still January, but I have a TMA due next week, and though I have known in my head what I need to write, I have spent the whole bloody day fighting with Word. Angry

2k words need to be pretty much done before my tutorial tomorrow night.

Why do I do this to myself. (rhetorical, not looking for any answers Blush

I got a brilliant mark for my last TMA, and now am scared I can't match it.

Lovely DH is lighting the fire, DCs are chatting nicely before bed, and it is almost Wine o'clock.

Anyone joining me?

in fact winny, I am in a similar position now - I have to submit A215 on thursday - have done 1 out of 3 poems and no commentary, plus have TMA04 for 19th c to go by Tuesday. DH is away at the moment and DS off sick, so I'm scuppered for childcare. Granted, not as much riding on it for me, but I don't know winny I think you can do this, I wonder if you've already made your decision deep down that you won't?

wildstrawberryplace · 21/02/2012 21:46

cheering you on anyway, whatever you decide!

winnybella · 21/02/2012 22:04

Awww, thanks for support. You're right, I can do this, or at least I can try, properly try-it's just that I'm so shit at time management and then lose my head in wild panic. But yes, giving up won't really solve anything, except making me feel like shit. Will email tutor now.

Good luck with your poems Smile

Just got message from my mum telling me to get my shit together Grin

FWIW I agree 100% with WSP

I dropped out of a course in 2007. Similar scenario - I was trying to do 120 points in one year (they weren't concurrent - one started in the October, the other in February) and I freaked, couldn't get my head around finishing one of the TMAs and rather than grit my teeth and carry on and accept a drop in marks, I withdrew. I regretted it and it knocked my confidence (and added more than a year to my degree). My tutor for the other course - the one I didn't drop - gave me a good talking to and said that I should just submit something, anything, and not worry about getting one or two below par marks. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED! And his words did stay with me because I never let that happen to me again. So yeah - if you drop that course you'll kick yourself, not just about the money (which is galling enough on its own) but about copping out when deep down you know you can do it and do it well.

You're more than capable of doing this! It's a case of getting down to it and churning something out. You'll probably amaze yourself at the mark you get, but if it's a shit mark, it doesn't matter. The main thing is to get back on track. You can do it and we're all cheering you on over the airwaves.

THUS ENDETH THE SERMON

chipmunksex · 22/02/2012 10:17

Keep the faith winny, we know you can do it.

I have contacted to the OU about the lack of tutorials, the reply has come back saying that there was a tutorial and another one is planned for before the final project. Hmm whoop de doo

I wish I hadn't bothered.

chipmunksex · 22/02/2012 10:21

Sorry everyone I should have thanked you for all your kind words and support. Thanks Smile

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 10:50

how's it going winny? want to share/critique/feedback our poems?

winnybella · 22/02/2012 15:20

Great idea, wsp. I still have to write mine, though Grin I'm still reading through the poetry section in the coursebook. Thankfully I seem to remember quite a lot from Approaching Literature module, otherwise I would have found it a bit difficult to absorb it all in a day (yes, I am so behind that I haven't even glanced at it before today).

Lovely tutor gave me a longish extension for Orlando essay Grin so I might, just might get it done. Thanks again for support last night Thanks

PM me with your poem/s, if you want and I'll PM you with whatever I have written in the evening.

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 15:39

Have PM'd you.

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 15:41

PS I didn't even read the coursebook bit Confused - just the poem about ironing and the reading at the back...only just realised there was a whole other section

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 20:54

Done any poems yet winny? you could PM me them one at a time if you like. I'm sat here working on mine right now. Brew

winnybella · 22/02/2012 21:03

No, I have just sat down. DD has a bad cold and it took ages to put her to bed.
Will have a look at your poems in a sec.

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 21:26

Oh no I wasn't hassling you to look at mine Blush just saying I'm here and I'm ready to bounce ideas off if you want.

I just got DS to sleep too - he's a bit ill with a cold but been behaving really badly, which is the worst combo to remain patient with imho.

Good luck !

wildstrawberryplace · 22/02/2012 22:39

Going to have to go to bed now and get up early to finish mine. Literally can't keep my eyes open. Feel pretty coldish myself actually.

Reckon I'll get done by the deadline though (fingers crossed)

Best of luck winny.

winnybella · 22/02/2012 23:43

I'm off to bed as well. I wrote one poem, but it's still a draft so I'll send it to you tomorrow when I will have done some more work on it.

Tbh it came out so easily, wrote it in 5 minutes. It's quite raw and personal. No clue if good or crap, too tired now to assess.

I promise to give you feedback tomorrow. I had a quick look and liked them but obv. need to read them properly.

chipmunksex · 23/02/2012 09:52

Hope everyone slept well. Brew to get ya started today. Well done winny keep it up.

I did zero yesterday as I've been a bit poorly, but I must try and do some today.

proles if you are around, do you remember how many tutorials you had for DD306? I wonder if I'm being unrealistic, because I had quite alot last year.

wildstrawberryplace · 23/02/2012 09:57

Currently trying to write with DS sitting next to me (off sick again) drawing pictures and asking me whether I like them every 2 mins. Sweet, but sooooo hard to concentrate. Think I might plonk him in front of TV for a bit - needs must.

How you doing winny? I don't if I'll finish by 12 at this rate - but I think we have until midnight unofficially, right?

winnybella · 23/02/2012 12:22

Yes, until midnight.

I'm retweaking my CV at the moment, we're in such a deep shit money-wise at the moment and I thnk the landlord will try to evict us. We owe more money than I thought, DP was trying to spare me stress, but clearly I'm an idiot for not getting a job earlier.

So I'll do the poems in the evening, can't focus on them at the moment.

wildstrawberryplace · 23/02/2012 12:40

That sounds stressful winny - sorry to hear it. Good luck.

chipmunksex · 24/02/2012 09:30

Here I am back nose in books (well folders, no books on this course Hmm)

juneybean · 24/02/2012 11:31

So I have three days this weekened to finish my assignment as I have guests next weekend.

wildstrawberryplace · 24/02/2012 11:40

3 days here too, it's almost a lost cause - DS is sick, I'm sick, DH away, friends and family away no helping out with childcare etc... meh, I'll meet the word count and if it's a load of BS at least I submitted.

winnybella · 24/02/2012 12:34

Hello everyone.

I have sat up til 5 am last night and wrote 3 crappy poems. Had loads to do today and have just sat down to try to improve them a bit and then write the commentary and send it off (praying that the tutor will accept).

I might have exagerrated the landlord situation, actually. I have called some friends up yesterday and they will see what they can do re:job plus I'm going to go in person to few places on Monday with my CV.

I'm ill as well. DD still snotty/has horrid cough. So doea DP. Bloody February. Grr. Had 3 hours of sleep and feel very odd indeed. When I think that when I was 20 we used to wait to go out clubbing til midnight and come home in the morning and I was still fine to go to work Hmm

winnybella · 24/02/2012 12:38

*exaggerated

chipmunksex · 24/02/2012 12:42

Well done winny on putting your head down and getting something together to submit. Grin

I hope you can get your head down for a nice sleep soon too.

I'd be totally awful if I only had a few hours sleep. If I stay up til midnight I'm a mess the next day.
