This may seem a really dim and possibly anal (no pun!) and repressed question, but I am having real trouble coming up with a word for my dd's vagina which isn't, er, vagina. Just wanted to know what you all call your childrens bits/whatsits/front bottoms (hate the last one!!) so I can choose one I feel comfortable using with her and which won't make me curl up and die if she shouts it out in public. I call her bottom her botty btw!!

Elibean what do you say in french?

suzywong · 18/01/2006 13:52

willies and gumbudges
gumbudge is an Aboriginal word, so I have been told.

Auntymandy · 18/01/2006 13:52

when I was little it was never called anything, but my bottom so I have stuck with that. Never had any need to call it anything!!!
I looked after a little girl that called it her foofoo!!!

We had this conversation recently. Older dd thought 'flower' was pretty (I did tell her the proper name but she didn't like it). Younger dd (4) wants to call hers Barbie!

Auntymandy · 18/01/2006 13:56

why do you need to 'name' them?

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 14:04

We've always used 'winkle' for DD ...however we live by the sea shore and there are often adverts in the paper for shellfish 'pickers'... one used to say "Winkles Wanted" ..DD read it aged 8 and was very amused.

Enid · 18/01/2006 14:06

minnie

and

.........fanjo

lunavix · 18/01/2006 14:07

bits.

occassionally willy for boy but definately bits for girls.

Friends call them minnie but it bugs me.

Mum2OneAndBump · 18/01/2006 14:09

For Ds we say Willy,

DD on the way & will either use Twinkle or maybe Minnie!

harpsichordcarrier · 18/01/2006 14:28

enid
FANJO??
wtf?

foxinsocks · 18/01/2006 14:33

penis (ds shortens it to pee pee)
vagina (dd sometimes calls it that or shortens it to gina gina pronounced like vagina without the va!)

Elibean · 18/01/2006 14:40

carlk, we say 'zezette' and for penis 'zizi' - I had to ask my French sil for help on this one: I'm only half French, never lived in France, and had no idea what the usual words for kids were. My Mum used to say 'lune' as in 'moon' for vagina/vulva and 'zizi' for penis - but I wanted to use the same words as my DD's little cousins use.

Elibean · 18/01/2006 14:42

TinyGang, lol, Barbie

harpsichordcarrier · 18/01/2006 14:46

Auntymandy I can think of several reasons to name them:
because children will ask what it is called
so they can tell you if they hurt
because by NOT naming them you might be passing on the notion that they are shameful and unmentionable
which is not a good message imho for lots of reasons
and so you can tell them that they are private

TeddyRobinson · 18/01/2006 14:48

Willy

Don't have girls so not had to call it anything yet.

kittyfish · 18/01/2006 15:15

Well I rather like the idea of zezette - is it a nonsense word like fou fou? And I agree about teaching correct word also. Would hate to give dd complex about it by not naming it

if it hurts it can be pointed at, if they ask what its called, its a vagina!
My daughter has never had a name for hers and she has no hang ups, I never had a name for mine and I have no hang ups!!
Words like minnie foofy etc make me laugh tbh

izzybiz · 18/01/2006 17:13

when i was little mine was a minnie, now i have a DD hers is a foo foo, i think thats because my two sil have girls and thats what they call them!

izzybiz · 18/01/2006 17:15

and can i add that theres nothing wrong with naming them i have absolutely no hang ups about anything. they have plenty of time to learn the biology later.

Meanoldmummy · 18/01/2006 17:40

willy

ds calls mine "mummy's fluffy bit"

his idea, not mine

Elibean · 18/01/2006 18:36
