Was your daughter the spitting image of her dad?

My six month old is a double of her father. She has my eye colour but that's just about it. Everyone comments on it and says "lets hope she changes!". I think they mean, we wouldn't want her to look like a man.

Am now paranoid my little girl looks like a boy and will grow up with bushy eyebrows and stubble!

Do they grow up looking more girly?

I am going to go against the grain completely!!!! My 2 DD's don't look particularly like my DH or I!!!! I keep thinking that they might each have been switched at birth - apart from the fact that they both look VERY like each other - bless them!! They have some features of DH and I, but really not many at all - They both have my blue / green eye colour, but they both has these HUGE eyes - absolutely gorgeous, but not a trait from DH or I! They sort of have my snubby nose (it looks a lot better on them!) but no not really like thier parents!! My dad was adopted, so I am beginning to think that there is a whole load of people wandering around somewhere in the world that look like my DD's!!!!

happynovayear · 28/12/2005 11:28

My 10wk old DD looks identical to her father when he was the same age. I dress her in pink but everyone still assumes she's a boy

FlameRobin · 28/12/2005 12:13

Awww, not read the whole thread, but yes, DD was the image of her daddy - its taken until 2 1/2 for her to finally start to look like me (before it was only when she slept!!!!). But, although she is the image of him, she is still very much girly and pretty

Like the majority of these posts, my dd (21mths) is the image of her father. My dh is a 'pretty' boy so it pleases me no end to see them look so alike. The only thing she has of me is sticky-out ears! (Only very slightly though).

mogwai · 28/12/2005 12:33

Doesn't sound too bad then! She has been mistaken for a boy when wearing a blue top (which had a little pink rose on it????), which I suppose is an acceptable mistake!

do men have stronger genes than most of us girls i wonder? or we just are not rewarded for those long 40 weeks followed by the most painful end, other than our beautiful children that dont resemble us!!!

flamerobin - thanks for the GREAT cat! x

DD was the spit of her dad at birth. But she didn't get his amazing blue eyes, or lovely long curly eyelashes, oh well there is always mascara. At 6 months, she is now starting to look a bit more like me, but I still think its a cheek - 9 months carrying her and she favours him!

gravity · 28/12/2005 13:46

mandymac - sweet heart it gets worse! wait til she's old enough to take his side!!! [grin}

WickedWinterWitch · 28/12/2005 13:48

Moomina, I remember Sobernow saying that: your first baby will look like the father to persuade him that a) it's his and b) he should stick around. Dd (my first with dh) is very like him I think.

GingerBearingGifts · 28/12/2005 13:50

DD had dark hair and looked like her dad for the first 6 months. Then her hair got lighter and longer and other than brown eyes, she is now a mini-me.

mandymac · 28/12/2005 14:04

I'm thinking maybe dd reasembles her dad because he looks a bit like a big baby (apart from the beard).

fsmail · 28/12/2005 15:07

My DD has always looked like me. My DS did but now at 5 starting to look more like DH

Nbg · 28/12/2005 15:16

When dd was born they took her off me to look after her that night as I was whacked out on Pethidine.

The next morning they brought her in to me, I was still a bit dozey, I looked at her and totally freaked out because she was a 100% spitting image of dh.

When she got a bit older everyone started to comment on how much her features had changed and that she looks like me now.

Passionflower · 28/12/2005 16:17

DD1 was the image of her dad when she arrived but is now looks exactly like me at the same age (5).
DD2 looks like a cute girly version of my dad, but with DH's dimples.

DD3 is DH's little mini me but I think she will end up looking like me when she gets older, as DD1 did.

blondie82 · 28/12/2005 16:20

my dd looked the spitting image of her dad when she was born, but the more older shes getting shes starting to look more like me....... got the same traits as her dad though, especially when it comes to the tv. they're both in a world of their own when they are watching something.

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 28/12/2005 16:21

i think every child is the double of their dads - dunno why, as my DD was the double of her dad but now she is still looking like her dad but she got my eyes and colour hair

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 28/12/2005 16:22

correction - every NEWBORN child is the double of their dads

blondie82 · 28/12/2005 16:37

dont they say it helps the dads bond with the baby? kicks some sort of instinct in?! i dont know!!

RacersTheRedNosedReindeer · 28/12/2005 16:53

Yes, ours was (still is but she is changing). I was so struck by the likeness I didn't check for gender! Only when I heard the MWs say 'look at all her hair' when they were checking her over (after EC-S) did I realise she was a girl!

For months, everyone remarked on how much she looked like her Dad and no-one said she looked like me. Was a bit upset really!

Having said that, she is quite girly with beautifully delicate eyebrows. I'm sure they don't mean she will look like a man - maybe just trying to make you feel better/have a dig at her dad?!

Tinker · 28/12/2005 17:25

My second appears to have none of my features. My 1st also looked like her dad when a baby but I am now assured (?) that she is a mini-me.

Mum2OneAndBump · 28/12/2005 17:32

My ds looked like my side of the family when he was first born, image of my own father, but has began to look more & more like his dad. Wonder what our little Girl will look like, will find out in 3 weeks i have a strong feeling she will look like her fathe though!

fruitcake · 28/12/2005 21:22

It's difficult to say because of the 50 year age gap (sorry, dh! ). I, however, am the only daughter of 3 children to be the spitting image of my dad & even have his dad's peculiar Finnish nose. You'd have to see it to believe it but i can dangle a teaspoon from the end of it.

charlietherednosedpussy · 28/12/2005 21:23

My 2nd dd looked so much like her dad that when she was 10 days old I put her in a dress...and took her back out of it 10 minutes later because it was like looking at him in a dress and was most odd

calcium · 29/12/2005 22:29

first one yes second one no. Dd1 has beautiful dark dark hair which is why everyone makes the comparison with her dad as he has black hair also her character is very much like his. Dd2 is fair and looks very much like me. Both gorgeous!
