SIL has been giving him water bottles and pencil cases for birthdays......she looked after him today and took him to JW with her 2 kids.

Superdry ftw anyway and my lovely hoodie was £45. So snuggly. Didn't realise Jack Wills was so ridiculously priced!

Hmmm, I agree it's a collosal waste of money, but at 9, it might be a good lesson for him to learn about the value of money if he buys it and then later wishes he'd been more careful/got better value for money. I would definitely point out the BNWT ones on Ebay to him though - that might be sufficient.

I'd also point out all the other things he could buy with the money that he might want, and then be very strong about not buying him any treats yourself (other than things you might have always bought - sweets/comics etc I don't know).

Do they have outlets where they might still have sale stuff ? My DD got one for her b/day but I made it very clear they are v expensive even in sale - she is 11 so a bit older and not obsessed so I relented. Hollister a bit cheaper ? Discus what else he might like to buy with money to give some attractive alternatives eg cheaper hoodie plus x,y,z. Also - who gave money - if grandparents, I often say to my girls they need to buy something that the giver would approve of eg books (not crackle nail varnish...) But some of my friends children of that age now receive cash from friends instead of presents (hate the idea myself) so less easy to go down that route in that sitn.

he likes superdry, but he is not especially hung up on brands if the look is right. His favourtie hoodie at the moment is an emerald green Top man one.

Personally (and I speak as someone whos oldest dc is 5 so feel free to ignore) its about teaching him value for money. So yes he has the money to buy one hoodie but he could use that for 2 xbox games or buy one on ebay for half the price and then still have money left.

One of the mummies on the school run last term was wearing a Jack Willis jacket. I suppose it seemed a good idea at the time.

My dd's both bought them but they were £50 and one came from Bicester village. Not sure about the other one. the quality is ok but not that wonderful. Have a shop around. don't let him spend £100. absolute rip off IMO.

Unless he is of large stature he won't find one to fit anyway as they are adult sizes. My teen dd looks down at JW now - strictly for Year 7's apparently. For anyone aged 13+ it is social death, along with liking Justin Bieber.

DD had her first JW top at 9 and has had odd bits since. It's actually very good quality and as it's adult clothing has bags of room still (I borrowed a hoodie from her a couple of weeks ago) so will lst. The bag it comes in will also get used until it disintegrates(or maybe that's more of a girl thing).
