How much do you pay for swimming lessons?

DH is shocked at the cost, and wants to stop DD1's lessons. It's going to be £97 for 4 months. It's at a private gym so we also pay membership fees for us all (£42pm for me, £8 for DD1 and £5 for DD2). The lesson's for 30 minutes and there's usually around 4 children in the class. (It varies between 3 and 5, depending on who turns up.) I don't think it's particularly expensive, but how does this compare to others?

PS We're in Scotland, if that makes a difference.

£16 per month for DC's at council run sports centre, £40 per term each at army one.

My dd is 3 and we pay £52 for 12 weeks. There's 5-6 is a class with one teacher and a helper. This is a council run pool. The classes are really good and my dd is coming on so well. We know a few people with older DCs who are very pleased with their progress. Sadly the pool is closing at Christmas to be replaced with a huge swanky new one. I hope the quality and the cost remain the same.

£65 for ten lessons. between 4 and 8 in a class. Having read this I think we're being fleeced.

private pool, £7 per half hour, 6 dc in a lesson
it's a bloody rip-off, but the pool's only 10mins walk away. the ones at the council pool are half the price, but petrol and parking means i'd end up no better off, and we'd have the faff of driving there.

£114.50 per term, for 9, 30 min lessons! This is with Aqua Tots, btw. DD started in May and is about to start her second term

£9 a session. Then I burn it in front of the teacher and take my child home.

MugglesandLuna · 15/07/2011 19:43

£10 for 45 minutes (although that is for me and DD)

Pigleychez · 15/07/2011 22:54

Well we pay about £250 every 10 weeks for both DD's swimming lessons.

They are private baby/toddler swimming lessons though so more than the normal leisure centre ones.

30 min sessions, once a week.

£6.50 per 30 minute lesson, per child with 6 to a class at a private pool with no membership fee.
