How much do you pay for swimming lessons?

DH is shocked at the cost, and wants to stop DD1's lessons. It's going to be £97 for 4 months. It's at a private gym so we also pay membership fees for us all (£42pm for me, £8 for DD1 and £5 for DD2). The lesson's for 30 minutes and there's usually around 4 children in the class. (It varies between 3 and 5, depending on who turns up.) I don't think it's particularly expensive, but how does this compare to others?

PS We're in Scotland, if that makes a difference.

That doesn't seem bad to me. We are in the sticks, too, and pay 22.50/month each child (1/2 hour lesson per week, only 2-3 weeks off each Xmas). 8-15 children/class typically. About 90 quid/4 months? At a Leisure centre that is half-owned/run by the local council. No discount for Leisure centre members, either.

Sounds expensive to me. I will pay £102 next term for DD, but that is an hour bronze medallion class ie half dryside/half wetside. A half an hour class for a term is nearer £60 and the size of the class depends on the age ie 3-5s 8 to a class, but very rarely that many. 5 and above 10 to a class.

£39 for a 13 week course. Half hour lessons at our local sports centre.

£5 per lesson. fees have all recently gone up. they run in 10 week blocks, half hour lessons, just paid £100 for both dc's. it is a lot more than we used to pay. only perk is the dc's can swim at the pool for £1 when it's open to the public.

oh, and there are up to 10 in a class.

We're in Scotland too and I've just paid about £40 for a ten-week block. That's the price in Glasgow; South Lanarkshire do a direct debit thing which is (iirc) about £17/month, with a guarantee of 45 classes a year. But that also gives unlimited access to S Lanarkshire pools outwith the classes, I think.

Oh, and the Glasgow classes are 1:8 for the first couple of levels, going up to 1:12 for the higher level classes.

£47.00 for 10 week block of 1/2 hr lessons- up to 8 per class but on odd occasions only 2 kids for 4 weeks? Local council pool/council run. I live in Yorkshire if that makes any difference... unfortunately DS is not a 'natural swimmer' but that's a whole other thread!

£11.60 for a half hour private lesson at the local swimming pool. There are group lessons that work out at £3 - £4 for half an hour but these have up to 10 children in each one.

£35 for ten half hour lessons but the classes are larger usually around 8 children.

I would expect to pay more for smaller classes.

Well I'm in the North West and we pay £46.00 for a block of 10 half hour lessons. There are about 7 in the class. It's at the local private school but run by an independant company.

It works out at £15 a lesson 1 on 1, but she has gone from barely swimming to 25 meters in about 6 lessons, and her confidence has grown massively.
I think it is worth every penny, as the improvement is so fast. We'd have paid about the same if not more for the same improvement in a class, as she would have less attention and more chance to mess around instead of swim.

£3.75 I think per lesson (theoretically 40 mins, in practice always 45 at least). Not 100% sure as you pay per 1/2 term & so the number of lessons always varies. 8 children per class at dd's level, don't know about the younger classes.

1-1 classes are £15 for half an hour. IMO the latter are probably better value (for dd - sure it depends on the child) in terms of progress per £. DD does work hard in the group lessons, but the 1-1 can focus on her particular weak points.

I pay £32 a month for swimming club and DS does 2 x 1/2 hour lessons a week. Think there's about 6 weeks holiday over the year and the odd bank holiday too.

Sounds about right for a private pool with low ratio. We pay £13 a month but classes are up to 8 children. I'm also in Scotland.

£12.50 a month at the local swimming club with an hours lesson every week. I'm at some of the prices being charged!

DC swims free at same pool while enrolled on swim school.

I pay EUR 15 for half an hour's lesson which is individually tailored to each child, though there may be up to four children at a time with one swimming teacher. All the children can swim a bit already.

£90 a term - ten weeks. There are 8-9 children in the class, one teacher and a couple of assistant teachers. The teaching is brilliant so it is worth it.

£48 1/2 hr. lesson for 12 weeks. 6-8 DC in DDs class.

we pay £18 a month each for lessons for dd and ds. They are 40 minutes long and are once a week. We can also use their membership card for leisure swimming in the pools in the local authority so the £18 covers both lessons and swimming at the weekends, etc. I'm also in Scotland (south lanarkshire)and the lessons are at the local leisure centre.

We pay £30 for a six week course. So £5 a half hour lesson.
