Oh god, DD just gone somewhere very unsavoury on the internet

I walked in on very guilty looking 9 year old dd and her friend looking at something under her duvet. She immediately burst into tears and told me they had taken my laptop and typed lesbians into google. I don't have parental controls on my laptop as she and her brother are supposed to stick to the PC in the front room (for obvious reasons). So you can imagine what they've seen. I went through the history and I can only say I felt sickened. I'm pretty sure this is her first exposure into what 'sex' looks like and it's horrific - major pornographic stuff that they looked at. We talked about trust and safety but she was so upset I didn't go very hard on her. Having now had a chance to really look at what she's seen I'm really worried about how she might be processing it. She told me she didn't understand what she saw and she thought it was gross but I do think I should go back to her on this and explain about what is a healthy sexual relationship and what isn't. But I don't want to make it too adult and complex for her to handle. I'm just not sure about the best way to handle it per se. Also, I feel that I should let the parents of the friend know - is there an accepted etiquette on this sort of thing? Ugh - will be keeping my eyes on my own laptop from now on.

Perhaps I have a different view of things as ever since I can remember getting my hands on a dictionary, penis and vagina were always the first things I looked up..."

How do you post with quotes?

Anyway, I used to do that too, looking up naughty words. then a friend came up with a video tape of some guy having sex with two women

I guess i would have cried too if caught watching porn

I caught one of my daughters watching two horses mate, I wasn't sure whether that is OK or not

They did see a calf being born while on my uncles farm

I don't have parental control on my computers. Yet.

thank your lucky stars she only saw lesbian sex on the internet, mine and my girlfriends kids nearly walked in on us friday night (thought they were asleep) have no idea what i would of said i was doing !

I caught my ds1 looking up all sorts on YouTube even though I have parental controls on his laptop. That's when I discovered that sites where unrated videos are uploaded by the public the parental controls can't filter them

So if anyone wants free parental controls that filter out even google searches there's one called K9 and it works really well.

Hi Dusty - haven't seen you around in a while - how are you doing??

I guess you could have said your exercises??

Nemo - I'm a tad offended that you took my post like that. I meant, that I thought you meant, anal as in - I am anal about hygiene - I thought you were asking if I had a obsessed angel aged 3. That you think I would mean anything else is quite sickening.

Okaren - it wouldn't bother me - mind you, driving around here it's fairly unavoidable to see the real thing!! (horses/stock)

you should really have a password on your laptop.

i know hindsight is a wonderful thing etc. but these kind of posts annoy me.

the internet is vast and dangerous for a child.

access to a computer without parental controls, is tantermount to putting cadbury's chocolate buttons on the table and telling a 2 year old not to eat them whilst you go in another room - you just wouldn't do it - you would put them out of reach.

anyway, i'm sure they will be fine. If i was the other parent i wouldn't be best pleased.
