I ordered a selection to try and have had varying success so wondered if anyone can help please.

Totsbots - lovely, no leaks but bulky so not sure if I would want to use them all the time
Motherease Sandis - nice and soft but leaked
Fuzzi bunz - slim and easy to use but leaked
Swaddlebees - no leaks, lovely and slim but expensive
Wee notions - no leaks but really fiddly (so many buttons and poppers and adjustable elastic - also really bulky.

Do you think I am doing anything wrong to get leaks with the fuzzis and sandis? Each nappy was on for max 3 hours - is this too long?

Btw - was using a Rikki wrap with the tots/sandis/wee notions

Thinking of buying more swaddlebees but quite a bit more expensive than the others so want to check I'm doing everything right before investing!

TIA

i know tots are fab and use them myself, but cnt bear myself not to use them 24/7.... i dont care if they are a little on the bulky side - Jess looks so cute with a big bum!

I use Kushies all in ones when i need to - ie if my washing isnt up to date!

I have 7 nippa tots for the new baby so far, and will get more when i have a bit more money spare.... need to get some small wraps too as I only started with tots when jess was 11 months old!

bonym · 22/09/2005 17:42

Psychob - yes - all tucked in - her vest was wet right underneath which seemed a bit strange. She is 6mths btw.

what insert are you using in the fuzzi?
if its the hemp one they need a few washes ti improve absorbency.

check out nappiesbyminki - they really are lush

bonym · 22/09/2005 18:06

hmm -don't think it is hemp - looks more like terry. Maybe I need to wash a few more times then. Perhaps that's the problem with the Sandi as well?

I'll check out that site - thanks Pixiefish.

misdee · 22/09/2005 18:08

add a 2nd insert to the fuzzis, i always had to use 2.

tots bots are still my favourite overall, you get used to the big bummed look.

bonym · 22/09/2005 18:10

Thanks misdee - was waiting for you to come along

can also recomend lovebums lovebums lovely nappies and fleece cuffed wraps, so no red marks.

NannyL · 22/09/2005 19:22

My old charge used MEsandys (and kissaluvs) and the occasional MEOS

have to say i think the sandys were my favourite and we NEVER once had a leak, tho we ALWAYS used kissaluvs + booster for night time

have you washed them enough first

LittleB · 22/09/2005 19:55

I had leaks with bambino mio but have always found MEOS and tots bots fine, although they are both quite bulky.
Jessicaandbumpsmummy if your after small wraps I'm trying to sell 3 ME airflow size small and a size small bambino mio wrap, also others - I've out an add on for sale board or cat me for more info.

bonym · 22/09/2005 20:41

Hmmm - those lovebums look nice - I can how people can get a bit obsessed by cloth nappies . Misdee - how bulky are they compared to a Tots Bots for example?

NannyL - I think you are right about not washing the Sandy enough times - I only washed it once . I'm a bit of a novice at this!

Is the general consensus that the shaped nappies + wraps are on the whole better than the all-in-ones? From an absorbency point of view?

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 22/09/2005 20:42

Yes nappies and wraps are A LOT better with regards to absorbancy... my kushies are fine for toddling about the house, but i cant take her out the house in them because we end up with leaks.

Really need to get some more nappies but finances just arent allowing it at the moment!

bonym · 22/09/2005 20:44

Sorry - another question. How long would you recommend between changes (assuming just wet of course)?

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 22/09/2005 20:48

depends on age - with Jess (14 months) i change her every 3-4 hours.... with a smaller baby i would say 2-3 hours. Saying that she goes into a tots at 7pm and stays in it until 7am unless she does a poo before bed!

LeahE · 22/09/2005 21:01

You could try the new Bamboozle from Tots Bots. It's a good bit more slimline but supposedly as absorbant (uses soem kind of clever made-from-bamboo fabric so it's ultra-environmentally friendly too). I have one (couldn't resist) but every time I've put it on DS so far he's done a poo and needed to be changed within an hour or so, so I can't yet comment from personal experience on how absorbant it is. So far only in aplix -- I'm not sure if they are coming out with nippa or popper versions. If I were buying from scratch again I'd get Bamboozles instead of Tots (although I'd prefer a non-aplix one). They are beautifully soft and silky.

What are you stuffing the fuzzis with?

And how old is your dc?

sweetkitty · 22/09/2005 22:01

just returned to mumsnet after being net free for 2 weeks have also started using washables again but having real problems with my fuzzi's - today one leaked after 90 mins!

tots and MEOs are ok but hate the bulky look can't get DD's trousers over them

may have to buy the new tots anyone else tried them?

LittleB · 22/09/2005 22:56

I've found shaped nappies and wraps best, I've tried a few. My dd is 4 months and i change her every 2-3 hours, depending if she's got a booster in or not, this seems fine for her. Although tots and meos are bulky - I think the look is cute! Although I have had to exchange a few pairs of trousers because they won't fit over her bum! You can get some clothes cut especially for babies in cloth nappies and I'm about to order some vest extenders for her too.

bonym · 23/09/2005 13:36

Well - have just ordered a bamboozle (non-aplix - they do sell them Leah!). Will have to master the nappi nippa!

Dd is currently in the swaddlebees (for just over an hour) and has just gone down for a nap so will see how it's performed when she wakes up. If no leaks will probably order more of these - so easy to use and really slim.

Really want to like the wee notions as they are lovely and soft and look gorgeous, but just find all the different fastenings a bit of a faff.

LeahE · 23/09/2005 13:59

Non-aplix? Oooh! I feel another impulse buy coming on...

Must... resist... lure... of... nappies!

Must... resist....

  • swaddlebees leaked...
OP posts:
sweetkitty · 23/09/2005 15:08

looked at swaddlebees last night

today have had her in MEO's till she was dressed then a fuzzi bunz with a booster that was ok but a bit moist around the thighs, think it's her thighs that are the problem but she is in petite toddler fuzzis put her in another fuzzi with 2 microfibre inserts but she pooed after half an hour so she's in a MEO now, have put her in her new trousers today, they look huge (9-12 months shes 14 months) and they look ok with a MEO on.

Keep looking at those new tots what are they like fluffle or bamboozle?

LeahE · 23/09/2005 15:53

Not tried the Fluffle (can't justify it... yeah right, like I could justify the Bamboozle) but have heard Good Things about it in the UKParents Cloth Nappies forum. The Bambooxle, as I said, I like a lot. Now DS is at nursery, though, we are concentrating on pocket nappies that don't need a separate wrap as those are easier for the nursery staff to manage.

bonym · 23/09/2005 16:01

Leah - which pocket nappies have you found to be the best?

OP posts:
babaworshipper · 23/09/2005 16:17

if your vests are tight over the nappies they can force them to wick, sounds like that might be happening if they are leaking through the crotch.

bonym · 23/09/2005 16:22

Haha - that makes sense! They are tight of course because the nappies are bigger than disposables. I will get some bigger vests and see if it makes a difference. Thank you!
