If you do wax may I recommend three nurofen half an hour before your appointment?
Never ceases to amaze me how people get through these things without drugs.
Never tried a brazilian, but even for a normal bikini wax I like to dull the pain...!

CP · 11/07/2003 18:16

Waxing is not so bad - believe me giving birth is far harder!! I had a wax on Tuesday and did not even notice that she had done the bits between the legs as I was so busy chatting!

princesspeahead · 11/07/2003 18:56

cp you are clearly an anglosaxon or scandinavian blonde who has no idea what us mediterraneans have to go through. I hate you.

codswallop · 11/07/2003 19:04

why happy cat..(vague please not too much info!)

lalaa · 11/07/2003 19:30

are you saying you want a permanent way to remove hair around your bikini line? sorry, can't answer that question, but I'd be interested to hear the answers you get!

Have you had a look at the ads in the back of the glossy mags? in the classified section - that might be a starting point.....

Jzee · 11/07/2003 19:32

I'd get it done professionally as they know what they are doing.

happycat · 11/07/2003 19:36

Lots of people do it and I can't believe that they can all aford or have the balls to go and have it waxed.I was wondering if maybe there was a shaver on the market or even cream.Codswollop I just wanna feel sexy and be one of the girls.Thought also it would be cooler for the summer.Bush free..

happycat, I seem to be doing a lot of marketing for this product and I am being paranoid to think that all these questions have appeared on mumsnet at the same time as the Remington bikini trimmer has launched...anyway, there is one - its an electric shaver for the bikini line, why it should be any different than a normal shaver beats me.

The only decent way to do it is to have it waxed, any shaving will give a rash and an itchy regrowth. There was a whole thread on this subject a few days ago...

bossykate · 11/07/2003 19:40

pph, have been checking out the bliss website on your recommendation on another thread... tell me how are the facials and waxing there?

tia

i have no energy for the controversial threads and will confine myself to frivolities only tonight...

Enid · 11/07/2003 19:41

If you want the whole lot off just get a Venus and have a go, but believe me, three days later you will be regretting it. And I've yet to find a bloke that finds red itchy spots covered with stubble arousing.

codswallop · 11/07/2003 19:42

LOl enid!

bossykate · 11/07/2003 19:54

oh god i have regretted it mere hours later... i'm just trying to find one of those shorts type tankinis now...

happycat · 11/07/2003 20:24

Never thought about the five o'clock shadow now I will have to go armed with pain killers to a salon.

Right - off on hols in a couple of weeks and I've only had my legs/BL waxed once, at least 3 years ago, so can't remember: Question 1 - should I bother to get my legs waxed now or carry on shaving (my legs always look 'dotty' afterwards, would a waxing help or look worse with ingrowing hairs!!!???)
Question 2: how close to my hol should I get my BL done??? (I tend to leave this area au naturelle as I don't go swimming ...) Any other thoughts welcome!

bossykate · 11/07/2003 20:38

hi jodee, ime you would need about a week's growth to be sure of a good wax.

also, i wouldn't bet on it last more than a couple of weeks at most if you don't have it done regularly, so you might want to have it done as close to going on hols as possible... any redness usually subsides after 12 hours max (if it has been done properly).

not sure i understand the question re bl - if you don't intend to go swimming and prefer to be au naturelle, why are you doing it? i would say 24/48 hours in advance if you want to get it done.

veet (fka immac) do a soothing post wax cream that you can apply to avoid ingrowing hairs, contains ahas, moisturisers etc.

my top advice - go to the best waxer available, as with many things in life this will probably be the most expensive...

agree with pph, take some painkillers an hour in advance. if you are having your period or due to come on it will be more painful...

hth.

happycat · 11/07/2003 20:50

how much could I expect to pay for a waxing?

jodee · 11/07/2003 20:57

Hi BK, thank you!

About the BL - as usual my brain not 100% engaged when composing sentences! I will be going swimming on holiday, I just don't 'do' swimming the other 50 weeks of the year, so no need to trim down below . I can swim, but DH is a total non-swimmer so I think ds (aged 3) will be wanting to go into the pool with his cousins on holiday. If I'm honest, the real reason I don't swim at home is because I'm too self-conscious about my spotty back! But sod it, I'm going on holiday and the sun will do it good anyway (but I'm going off topic so will end there!)

Furball · 11/07/2003 21:09

What about something with bottoms like this

bossykate · 11/07/2003 21:16

yes, furball, perfect! would it be too cheeky to infer from your chat nickname you understand only too well what some of us go through???

SamboM · 11/07/2003 21:20

BK, fancy going out? Check out the SW London thread as would be lovely to see you

Furball · 11/07/2003 21:44

Bossykate, Crickey - Not you as well!! Somebody else here thought I might be 'furry', (on the epilator thread) My name, is a word that makes me laugh, I maybe a little on the furry side but I am blond so it's not so noticeable

bossykate · 11/07/2003 21:47

sorry, furball! have to say if someone said to me, "so, are you bossy?", would have to say, i'm a project manager so have made a career of it...
