sambom, you're very kind, would love to go out, don't make any plans around me though, will keep tabs on what is decided on the thread and opt in if i am up to it, if that is ok.

bossykate, both are marvellous. the oxygen facial (not looking at the site so may have the wrong name) is great - makes you look x years younger and with a healthy glow rather than london wan. Big fan of the almond milk pedicure as well, although I believe rosy toes is their most popular.
waxing is good too. well, it's waxing. you know.

Friend of mine has recently had her bikini line "tidied up" by some sort of laser treatment - available at larger Boots stores. She swears by it - needed 6 (I think) sessions and 100% effective, permanent, no regrowth. Quite expensive but cheaper and less painful than a lifetime of waxing or shaving.

pph, thanks for that, was investigating some pick-me-ups. have really missed the us approach to beauty since i was fortunate enough to live in nyc a few years ago and get the nail habit... even the most humble nail parlour would blitz rough skin really well and no question about tidying up toes etc...

thanks again

ps - have realised i have probably shared too much info and everyone will think i am some kind of shaven ape - yikes!

I have shaved the behind the pants region for years! I assure you I am dark haired and normally very hairy. The first time you do it will feel odd and it is best to avoid, er, friction for a day or two. The trick is to keep shaving each day or every other day.Use lots of soap ( I use normal white soap, not shaving foam ) and a sharp blade ( I use gillete mach 3)It's just part of my normal shower routine - I used to spend a fortune on leg wax and creams till i realised that shaving every day was quicker, cheaper and meant I never had to wait for regrowth in order to wax again. My shower including hair wash and shaving all my bits takes me about 5 minutes. I shave while the conditioner is in my hair.
I never get ingrown hairs either (used to ge them after waxing)nor a rash or any discomfort whatsoever. I really like it.
I apply a light dusting of talc to the front "bit" just below my tummy.

At the risk of sounding crude, do none of you have hair up the middle, so to speak? I find it's too close to the.. um.. membranes to use Veet, but even shaving is too close.. I have managed to "nick" a very personal bit of skin with the razor & it's not a pleasant experience!!! (she says, scratching furiously... )

donnie · 13/07/2003 16:15

my teeth are on edge as I rea this - isn't all this fanny de-fuzzing agonising ? I can't imagine it, I am wincing just thinking about it!!

slightlyshy · 14/07/2003 02:23

tallulah, I have done both, ie left some hair in a strip down the middle but usually I shave the lot. Donnie it is not remotely sore and I speak as a wimp.
Maybe once you have done it a few times it kind of toughens up, a bit like wearing a thong is uncomfortable the first time you try but becomes second nature.
not that I ever remember it being sore/uncomfortable.
Several friends have tried it on my recommendation and everyone has found it to be very easy. The trick is to do it every day if possible.

tallulah · 14/07/2003 18:06

no, I meant the middle.. underneath... Perhaps I'm deformed?

XAusted · 14/07/2003 19:57

Scarey thread! There are some places I would just not put a razor!! Eek.

wickedstepmother · 14/07/2003 20:36

I use Immac or Veet or whatever stupid name they've given it this week. It doesn't hurt (but is a bit messy) and is fairly quick (about 20 mins in all). You'll have to strategically position yourself in front of a mirror though . It's really easy to get in the 'nooks & crannys' with the stuff as it's just a cream, and it washes off easily and cleanly.

slightlyshy · 14/07/2003 20:39

tallulah do you mean the perineum? I don't usually bother to go that far back but I have done.
wsm I must be extra hairy as the creams just don't reliably shift all the hair for me

Eowyn · 14/07/2003 20:47

In the days when I wanted to please dh, ie before dd, I shaved as much as I could reach, ie all inbetween bits etc, only didn't get round the back, if you see what I mean. It is the front that is really painful with spikey hairs tho, the rest was ok to do as long as you're careful.
Never too sure I was happy making myself prepubescent for him tho...mixed feelings & paranoia
