ds was knocked off his bike today and the bloody woman drove off

We let ds ride his bike to school today for the 1st time and some silly bitch clipped his back wheel when he was coming home knocking him off. He is OK apart from a few grazes and a cut knee but the bike wheel is buckled. She apparantly pulled up and when he got up, she roared off.

Been to the police station to report it but unfortunately he only knows it was a red Peugoet 106 starting with P reg so they can't do anything. Happened in the entrance to a business park so I asked them if they could check their cctv and they said it was highly unlikely they would expend any time on it. So the silly cow gets away with it and may kill a child next time.

galaxy! i am !!!1 that is so terrible... thank goodness your ds is ok though.

is it possible you could go to the business park yourself and ask them to check the cctv? i have done this before in a shop when my credit card was stolen...

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:26

POlice told me they weren't allowed to show me the CCTV due to data protection

how old is he, galaxy?

lilaclotus · 18/07/2005 21:27

that's so awful

jampots · 18/07/2005 21:27

what a bitch galaxy - hope your ds is ok. Maybe worth camping out there same time tomorrow as she may work there.

Pixiefish · 18/07/2005 21:29

She deserves to be prosecuted- as you say she could kill next time

Pixiefish · 18/07/2005 21:29

jampots idea is excellent btw

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:29

He's 12 and he's fine but he was turning into the business park to take a short cut and she was coming along the road so she wansnt connected to the park, mores the pity

And she was probably on her mobile at the time too.

starlover · 18/07/2005 21:30

galaxy... they don't have to show you. but you could ask them if they still have the tape of when it happened and whether they would be willing to show it to the police

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:31

He said she was tailgating his back wheel all the way along the road and he indicated with his left arm before he turned.

poor ds

Is he ok?

Take a digital camera with you or video camera to film her car

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:32

That's an idea. I'll get ds to see if there are any cameras when he comes home tomorrow.

RTKangaMummy · 18/07/2005 21:33

what about his bike?

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:33

He's fine km - he was quite nervous about going to the police station though but very impressed that they let him sign his own statement!

DH is really incensed for you, galaxy...
I can't understand why they aren't treating this as "Hit and Run"... Possibly because cyclists have such a funny not-pedestrian & not-road traffic status.

DH said ring the police station every 1/2 hour to see what the police are going to do abut it (but I think you'd be done for harrassment).
Get your MP on to it, says DH!
And, he adds, the press... how can the govt. encourage more cycling on one hand and then not treat cars hitting cyclists seriously.

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:33

Bike is scratched and dh had to straighten the wheel

Agree with starlover. Get the police to check through what happened - could save a life. How awful - how could she just drive off. Wonder if she's thinking about what happened now?

pindy · 18/07/2005 21:34

glad your ds is ok, hope you can track the woman.

jampots · 18/07/2005 21:35

also ask the local newspaper to come and do a piece on ds and appeal for witnesses!!!

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:35

Good point fqzebra! Might send a "thank you letter" to the local paper addressedto the cowardly bitch!

fqueenzebra · 18/07/2005 21:35

Hope it doesn't put him & you off him cycling...
DH has won damages from motorists pulling in front of him when he was on his bike, that kind of thing. This lady owes you for the cycle damage at least (you have a good case for a civil action).

RTKangaMummy · 18/07/2005 21:36

Do you think he will be ok riding his bike again or has it put him off?

Hope not

@ police for not doing anything to help really

Agree about MP and press

Take photos of his scratches and if it bruises of them too

Also of his bike

And maybe photos of where it happened

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:39

He is cycling tomorrow and says he'll keep a pad an pencin in his top pocket in case she goes past at the same time. I wonder if she was a mum hurrying to the nearby primary school.

RTKangaMummy · 18/07/2005 21:41

would you be able to go to the school and have a look at the cars and see if there is a P reg one?
