ds was knocked off his bike today and the bloody woman drove off

We let ds ride his bike to school today for the 1st time and some silly bitch clipped his back wheel when he was coming home knocking him off. He is OK apart from a few grazes and a cut knee but the bike wheel is buckled. She apparantly pulled up and when he got up, she roared off.

Been to the police station to report it but unfortunately he only knows it was a red Peugoet 106 starting with P reg so they can't do anything. Happened in the entrance to a business park so I asked them if they could check their cctv and they said it was highly unlikely they would expend any time on it. So the silly cow gets away with it and may kill a child next time.

thats bloody awful fancy not stopping to see if he was ok, she could be prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident.

hunkermunker · 18/07/2005 21:46

OMG! How awful! Glad he's OK, Galaxy, but very at the bastard woman who did this!

ScummyMummy · 18/07/2005 21:46

Absolutely disgraceful. I can't believe somone would not check a child was ok in these circumstances. Is he ok now, Galaxy? It can be a real shock to be knocked off a bike, even if injuries are v minor.

Not this week KM - I am working hard on project at work and I work an hour and a half away - may be able to work fromhome on Friday and if so, I'll get him from school and take him up there. Now I feel guilty that I can't be at home this week Hey maybe, his birth mother could do (spluttering icon)

oh galaxy i didn't want to make you feel bad

I was just trying of things to help track down this cow of a woman

galaxy · 18/07/2005 21:56

I know KM - it's just that I am leaving earlier and getting home later every day coz of work pressures at the moment and starting to feel more and more guilty by the minute! dh's boss is off with cancer so dh is finding things hard going too and he can't leave early. I will make an effort to try and work from home on Thursday if I can (Friday they all finish for 1/2 day)

Oh sorry for me to add to your presssures is not what you need

Take photos of DS injuries and bike and write down all that happened

RTKangaMummy · 18/07/2005 22:10

mind you,

you have written it all here

galaxy · 18/07/2005 22:12

Don't be silly! You aren't adding to my pressures - I come on her to let off steam and that's what I've done - I did wonder if I was over-reacting by going to the police as he wasnt seriously hurt but I think I did the right thing

Does ds have a mobile phone? One with a camera? If not, do you have one you could lend him? Might be easier to take a photo of something rather than write it down.

I agree that the police should be taking this far more seriously. And how dare she drive off just because he stood up. For all she knew, he could have collapsed 2 seconds later - but thank goodness he's OK. This is hit and run and should be treated as such by the police.

Perhaps you could take this higher. Ask to speak to the station officer, i.e. the one in charge, local superintendent or suchlike (should watch The Bill more often so I know what I'm talking about!). Ask him/her to explain why such an incident warrants so little attention by their officers.

ds went into the business park yesterday and asked if they had cctv on the entrance and a very helpful security guard showed him that unfortunately it didn't cover it.

He's written a "Thank you" letter to the woman via the local paper and we've written to our MP about the police's attitude.

Watch this space!

Galaxy,

You are entitled to by law (data protection act) to get copies of any CCTV footage of you from any company you choose to ask. They are entitled to charge you a fee for doing so - it is usually more than £10.00 and they must provide the data you require within 30 days.

Its really important you call the business park management and let them know you are sending in a request in writing as often cctv footage is on a 7 day loop and all evvidence will be eradicated within seven days. Get onto them today if I was you the sooner the better.

That woman deserves to be punished for such dangerous driving and for not stopping.

ds's letter made an article on page 3 of the Farnham Herald and he had an email from the MP saying he is going to write to the Police Superintendent and the Waverley Director of Transport.
