HappyHuggy · 15/06/2005 20:54

Itt really pisses me off when people change there names just to be bitchy.

If you stand by your opinon, then have the decency to use your own name.

otherwise keep you thoughts to yourself.

I'm not surprised they changed their names, these days you can barely post anything without the mumsnet police appearing and shooting you down.

Must disagree with that - if they posted something 'different' under their own names they probably wouldn't have been 'flamed' as much.........and I don't really think it was appropriate to post those things in a thread in which someone was asking for 'propping up'..........

HappyHuggy · 15/06/2005 22:38

i wasnt talking about that thread exclusively

helsi - wheres my malibu

but if you have a strong opinon on something you should have to change your name to say it.

im talking more about the changers that do it deliberatly to hurt some one or have made their point yet continue to be a bitch

nonsense - I've seen lots of people saying things that others didn't like and not getting 'hounded'. Yes people may disagreed with them, but on the whole things have remained reasonably civilised - it's ONLY when someone decides to comment on the controversial person's post with a name change that things get 'hot under the collar'.

Have a search back and see how many of the REALLY heated threads involved people with changed names.......compared to those that were heated, and generally resolved - without 100 threads starting 'about name changes'...

dolly

are you refering to my post?

OP posts:
dungareedolly · 15/06/2005 22:47

no Rickman's

perhaps I should change my name to disagree with Rickman

HappyHuggy · 15/06/2005 22:47

rickman

not always. there are people on here who will post in there own names and are happy to defend thier opinons. I think they they deserve much more respect than people who have to hide behind a name change.

There are countless times when people post 'difficult' messages, that they know won't be met with open arms by many, in a way which is nevertheless open and intended to be constructive. POsting stuff in a spiteful, deliberately hurtful way with snide comments about un-named cliques etc is altogether different. It's not about difference of opinion, it's about behaving with respect and decency when you voice it!

There was a thread earlier this week which could easily have become v unpleasant: the exalted state of marriage. People voicing very differnt views concerning religion, marriage, sexuality etc. Devout Christians, people in same-sex partnerships, married, single - and no-one was abusive or rude. Views might well have been forthright, and uncomfortable, but no-one insulted anyone.

FairyMum · 15/06/2005 22:49

Well, I always post in my own name and sometimes disagree with others. I don't mind anyone saying anything to me on a thread, but what I do mind actually: Is when people gather their own little crowd on another thread to have a bitch. Now, that is quite cowardly and makes a name chnage a bit tempting sometimes!

Yes you're right I'm a temporary (sp) name changer - I, like Fairymum, have no qualms about stating my point of view - even if it's COMPLETELY opposite to the general consensus - yes people might rip my post to shreds, but I don't feel the need to change my name to defend myself!

IMO people who change their name to post spiteful and nasty comments (or overtly controversial) are just cowards!

I'm talking about those who want to give a different point of view - 9/10 I'll say (under my normal name) exactly what I think, no matter how contrversial it may be, as I said those who feel the need to change their name to voice the opposite opinion are just cowards

And I'm not telling you who I am - want to see how long it is before someone works it out

I'm sure we have - I'm don't pay much attention (usually) to who's posting on a thread, just fire away with my opinion
