A RANT ABOUT NAME CHANGING TROLLS - SORRY

HappyHuggy · 15/06/2005 20:54

Itt really pisses me off when people change there names just to be bitchy.

If you stand by your opinon, then have the decency to use your own name.

otherwise keep you thoughts to yourself.

So its okay to change your name to say something nasty and then change it back and carry on being all nicey nice?

Gwenick, really? You can spot a style? Well, I would say that is a bit dangerous as you could risk accusing someone of being a troll. You know, mistakingly recognising someone.

Enid · 15/06/2005 21:16

yes but yawn...its being banned anyway

my fascination is when mumsnet said that posters change their names and then talk to each other on the same thread

mind bending

helsi · 15/06/2005 21:18

as none of you really "know" anyone else.

Gwenick this is not always the case as many MN members meet up don't they and then get to know each other so the autonomy then disappears

HappyHuggy · 15/06/2005 21:20

I be the first to admit that im over sensitive about this subject but i cant see the need to change your name just to be a bitch

OP posts:
sorrel · 15/06/2005 21:20

i have changed my name a few times for different reasons, but mainly because once or twice i have mentioned where i live and what i do in various threads and as i live in a very small place i wish to remain unidentifiable on certain more sensitive threads. for example the conception threads. I have also changed my name for fun on a couple of only joking chatty threads. Call me a Troll if you like, but i reserve my right to remain anonynous if i want.

Now the more long term of you guys will know who I am..

But the point is that it is very difficult to change your style.

Even if I try, I can not bring myself to post long unspaced posts, (Blame the nuns)

You can generally have a very good idea who you are dealing with just by the posting style.

sorrel · 15/06/2005 21:24

oh ok -sorry. is ther a lot of bitching going on? I have been in hospital for a week so have missed that. Is it really very prevalent?

Gwenick · 15/06/2005 21:25

Yes - some people post in VERY distinctive ways - I bet if I were to change my name - I'd be spotted very easily as (I've been told) that I've got a distinct style. Phrases, spelling mistakes, 'attitudes' - they all add up.

Gwenick · 15/06/2005 21:26

as none of you really "know" anyone else.

?????? That wasn't me

SantaGoestotheGym · 15/06/2005 21:28

Blimey

Gwen..............................ick

Are we now twins

dungareedolly · 15/06/2005 21:28

I reckon name changing should be banned - it just causes lots of upset and threads like this. Can't believe how nasty 'name changers' have been on Lou's thread!

helsi · 15/06/2005 21:32

sorry Gwenick - I meant cod!!

Blu · 15/06/2005 21:32

Gwenick - are you talking to yourself/

Enid; where did MN say thatpeople change thier names and talk to themsleves? Blimy!

WEll, I did that once, but it was on the 'don't post on this thread ' thread, in it's early stages, and I changed my name to 'ulB' so there would have been a bit of a clue for the astute.

I dont think that name changing should be stopped - its often fun and some people use it for sensitive issues.

I just hate the pathetic posters who feel the need to change there names to hurt somebody.

There opinon would be taken alot more seriously if they had the balls to use there normal name.

OP posts:
helsi · 15/06/2005 21:34

IKWYM cod.

sorrel · 15/06/2005 21:35

i used to talk to myself for a laugh, but only if no-one posted on a thread i started. It's strangely theraputic. especially if you are lonely and not one single person answers you

dungareedolly · 15/06/2005 21:35

HH - I though the 'new' rule was going to be a maximum of 2 names, so people can have their anon one, and their usual one.

There's been FAR too many cases recently of people using name changing to make nasty comments and stir threads up.

BTW when will it be starting - the name change thing?

dont know.

I like LGJ's tick a box idea

OP posts:
franke · 15/06/2005 21:38

I may be mistaken, but can't mods see the identity of name changers? Seem to remember some issue about this at the end of last year. In which case isn't it a bit daft to go changing your name on a lou33 thread?
