OMG Have I done a terrible thing! I'm Shaking

I have just shopped my sisters ex man into benefit fraud! Its a long story but I feel he has really deserved it! He undermines my family as we don't have a car and we don't go on many holidays, but thats because we are a low income family paying all our taxes for him to claim full benefits and work on the side! Oh I get soooo angry at him.

That's not terrible at all - that's GREAT thing to do

Nbg · 13/06/2005 13:55

Well done. You did the right thing.

Enid · 13/06/2005 13:55

thats how most people get caught, the system relies on it.

stitch · 13/06/2005 13:55

well done.

QueenFlounce · 13/06/2005 14:02

Kidstrack2 - Give yourself a pat on the back! Benefit scams really stick in my throat.

Kidstrack2 · 13/06/2005 14:13

Heres what he has been doing over the past few years that I know of: He claims full housing benefit and full council tax benefit, he claims to be a stay at home dad and claims child benefit for one of my sisters sons (and his of course) saying that the child lives with him full time which is not true as he lives with my sister. He does this so he doesn't need to sign on at the job centre as they would find him full time work. He earns up to 60pounds a night and double that at weekends working in a chinese and tandoori! And of course the tax man sees none of it! Plus he has a car, a five grand motorbike, a caravan for holidaying in. All paid for by taxpayers money! It now gets even better, after seperating from my sister he moved a new girlfriend into his house got her pregnant, the baby is now 3months old and she claims seperately from him from her mothers address just so he doesn't loose out on his benefits! He is a complete control freak and my sister is too scared to say to him to give her the child benefit money as she looks after him.

He's a dishonest freeloader and deserves both barrels - well done Kidstrack2

Lucycat · 13/06/2005 14:19

Go girl, well done!

Kidstrack2 · 13/06/2005 14:30

Thanks everyone, I'm still shaking, I am going to collect ds from school and try not think about it! I thought maybe I shoudn't have done it as it was my sisters ex. Wait till I tell dp what I did! I think he will be so proud of me! Sad I know! But I usually don't bother with those kind of things but it has been boiling over for months with my sister telling me that he had done this or that and my dp and I do the best for our kids and he has a life of luxury.

charleepeters · 13/06/2005 14:31

Dont worry he deserved it - belive me if they werent related to my ssiter theres a few people i would shop in for sure.

colditz · 13/06/2005 14:34

Proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself.

People who abuse the benefit system leave less in the pot for those who genuinely need it!

Blu · 13/06/2005 14:39

No, I think you have done the right thing. But it may be a good idea to thik ahead a bit to when he starts on at your sis about someone has shopped him - it might be better for you and your sis if your sis DOESN'T know you did it? if she is very under his thumb, she might crack under pressure!

TracyK · 13/06/2005 14:43

Good for you - I bet the kids don't see any of the money anyway!

Stilltrue · 13/06/2005 15:13

Just thought I'd say well done too. It must have been hard in some ways for you to take the plunge. That sort of thing makes me really angry. Think of all those honest people genuinely struggling and worrying about affording the basics, and think too, as everyone says, about taxpayers' money funding that loser's lifestyle. For he is a loser; if he put as much ingenuity into earning an honest living he would actually begin to feel some pride in what he's doing, and earn some respect from those around him. Instead he's got a lovely investigation looming upon him, and all its repercussions...

MINNIE1 · 13/06/2005 15:13

Good for you, Well done.. there are people out there that need help from tax payers money not a freeloader like him.
I think you have done the right thing, but i would keep it to myself as Blu said. But you have done the right thing.

spacecadet · 13/06/2005 15:15

good for you you did the right thing, people like him make me sick.

Iklboo · 13/06/2005 15:17

Well done you. But agree you should keep it from your sis - "plausible denial". She can't tell him what she doesn't know.

Kidstrack2 · 15/06/2005 11:19

Don't know if any of you have been following this post but my sis called me last night to say that herself and her ex had been caught by Dept of Work and Pensions who came into her work and had contacted her ex partners work. I didn't even realise she was working on the side! But best of all I played dumb and asked when it happened and it was 2 weeks ago so they must have another enemy out there, as I only shopped him 2days ago! Phew!

OP posts:
HappyDaddy · 15/06/2005 11:27

Well done. I've just shopped my ex and am hoping for a similar result.

ninah · 15/06/2005 11:36

sorry hate this culture of anonymous 'shopping'

snafu · 15/06/2005 11:38

So what's the alternative when people are blatantly committing benefit fraud, ninah? FWIW, I am partly in agreement with you, but why should people get away with it - especially to the degree this guy apparently was?

HappyDaddy · 15/06/2005 11:38

ninah, you're happy that people are ripping other tax payers off then? Just desserts in my opinion.

Marina · 15/06/2005 11:41

Well done kidstrack, agree you need to keep it from your sis though.

misdee · 15/06/2005 11:43

ninah are you worried you're gonna get caught.

i'd shop anyone i can if they are defrauding the system.

ninah · 15/06/2005 11:43

no, I totally agree as well, it is unfair that they get away with it, I just feel there is something quite seedy about the government encouraging us to rat on each other
Don't have a solution. Ideally leave it to the individual conscience and believe what goes around comes around, but then some people don't have one, and I don't know it always DOES come around ..
Just feel two wrongs don't make a right, really.
