What on EARTH has happened to MN lately?

Over the last couple of weeks it's as if there's been an online synchronising of menstrual cycles and everyone has raging PMT!

Okay, not everyone, but surely I can't be the only one to have noticed that there's been a hell of a lot of stroppy teen catfighting and name-calling, and lots of posters seem to be in hypersensitive mode, snapping at the merest indication of dissent or independent thought. I would even describe the atmosphere as vituperative, which makes me think how humiliating it is for DG to have described MN in those terms and then for so many posters to prove her right.

Perhaps things have calmed down now - I haven't been on the site much for a few days, partly because of the unpleasantness and partly because of RL stuff. But if this is how things were pre-Moldiegate I can now see why some MNers felt the need to separate themselves. Which makes me very sad.

Dear Godzilla - of course you may use this phrase whenever you wish. It is my gift to you.

MrsMerryHenry · 23/06/2009 22:59

at Spero (a witty donkey, at least!)

I do sometimes find myself sucked into the sleb pages of the mail. I feel so dirty afterwards.

I'm not too overjoyed by UQD's return, because of his views on religion. I had to hide the light thread, because from previous experience, he does not even consider another person's point of view. Believe in a god, don't believe in a god, it doesn't matter to me, but do not insult my intelligence and my ability to reason because I do. That is disgusting in my view.

GodzillasBumcheek · 23/06/2009 23:05

All of my smileys are genuine!

I always 90% of the time have a tongue-in-cheek attitude when posting...it gets the most interesting replies

Except the times people fail to understand and don't reply at all, and i end an entire thread with one stupid post

(hence the need for extra helpful quotes to relieve my stupidity)

(Hey at leaast i know i'm fick....ROFLOL>

hi mrsMH - bleh- I see your point re UQD but he does have some good thought-provoking things to say IMO.

I do see a sort of development where posters make statements about their view, but NOT couched as a thesis, rather as a command. Which does piss people off.

thumbwitch · 23/06/2009 23:07

oh god, I give up. I wasn't for ONE SECOND implying that yours weren't genuine, I just wanted to make sure that you realised that MINE wasn't a passive aggressive one.

please take a nice cold flannel to the forehead for your migraine, it works wonders for me (and my dad)

Spero · 23/06/2009 23:10

Mrs MH, what a bitter sweet image.

I so wish Eddie Murphy hadn't been such a shit to Mel B. It has quite ruined my appreciation of the Shrek triology, and believe me, I am given considerable opportunities to demonstrate this appreciation.

GodzillasBumcheek · 23/06/2009 23:12

ROTFLOL

I'm off to bed now.

That's what you call rational discussion, MrsMH!

MrsMerryHenry · 24/06/2009 13:53

I don't really know what EM did to Mel B, actually. But what I do know is that Donkey was by far his best role (being off-screen ), and that Stephen Mangan from Green Wing really does look like Eddie Murphy

I don't know the full ins and outs of it, MrsMH but I believe he refused to accept that Mel B's baby was his, despite them being together when she was conceived here if you can bear it

Spero · 24/06/2009 22:02

Mrs Merry Henry!

That tragic story should have been seered into your conciousness. You are either callous beyond belief or a secret man.

MrsMerryHenry · 28/06/2009 13:17

OMG I can't believe I didn't know anything about this, what a b*stard. I've always found him irritating as an actor, but had no idea he could be so monstrous.

Poor Mel B and Angel B .

(In my defence when I said Donkey was his best role it was meant to be an insult to him - I was saying he's so much better when we don't have to see him. I suspect Mel B feels the much same.)

I wonder if this is what the Mouldies thought before the exodus...

I think you're right by the way - I posted something in IABU the other day, not particularly contraversial and someone posted "who cares what you fucking think? Go and fuck off and stop wasting everyone's time" - (I paraphrase). Other Mumsnetters did leap on and state-the-bleedin-obvious ie. that posting your thoughts is what the forum is there for and everyone is entitled to do it.

That was an extreme example but I do feel that threads can get polarised and quite nasty very easily. The only benefit it that the moderate and considered posts tend to shine out - for me anyway.
