Apart from pat self on back?

I am thinking of retraining but no idea about jobs. Those are the things I'm considering studying - what REAL ACTUAL JOBS might I get with a postgrad MA/PHD in them?

I mean ones that pay money. Any money. But must be money.

Thanks dearies.

There must be a third way. Surely it is possible to work with the basic mechanisms of capitalism but with something other than pure profit as the driving force. Isn't it?

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/04/2009 13:56

You want one of these, Iorek:

i have always wanted to live in Germany. Largely because I fancy Germans like the way they combine a sort of socialism with capitalism and their environmental awareness. Not a huge barrel of laughs though.

Swedes · 21/04/2009 21:25

Ruty - good sausage selection though.

ruty · 21/04/2009 21:36

I'll take that at its basest face value.

Swedes · 21/04/2009 21:47

ruty it's the wurst joke I've ever made on MN.

ruty · 21/04/2009 22:06

Ho ho! With theeze naughty jokes you are really spoiling us! [lip synch out of kilter]

ruty · 22/04/2009 18:48

[Kills thread. Bows to applause.]

onebatmother · 22/04/2009 18:56

NO! you haven't killed the thread. I was just googling german sausage types for puns.

But was blindsided by this horrific revelation: "Liverwurst is one category of spreadable sausage and must contain at least 30 percent pork liver."

  1. "Liverwurst"
  2. "spreadable sausage"
  3. "30% pork liver"

Yum.

ruty · 22/04/2009 19:06

I'd eat it if I could live in Germany. Do you think it is part of the citizenship entry criteria?

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/04/2009 19:14

I hesitate to ask what else Google came up with when you googled 'sausage'

onebatmother · 22/04/2009 19:56

BIWI, 'sausage' isn't really a porno keyword Though this may change, of course.

ruty · 22/04/2009 20:00

yes I know onebat. Am most disappointed.

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/04/2009 20:45

Isn't it?

onebatmother · 22/04/2009 21:20

OK, after I'd got the wurst brats in E17 (c wot i did?) to bed, I did a little light research this evening into what's going down at a cutting-edge cultural studies MA course, and it's mildly intimidating to say the fucking least.

So cultural studies is out then, I think.

I'm not sure that I had the intellectual wherewithal when I was twenty and still sexy, brain-wise. I certainly don't now I'm forty-one and mainly drunk, with mascara-trails and one shoe missing, telling the minicab driver of academia that I do live around here somewhere, let's just go around the block again.
