Trolls, where are they now and which ones do you remember?

Obviously JF/W&R can be classed as a troll.

There are one or two others that I remember, such as one thread that was clearly started by a young male with nothing better to do except try to stir things up on here, along the lines of "I'm a sahm with a ?yr old ds, I like girls and want to meet some, but I don't know how to tell my husband". The whole tone of the post, spellig mistakes and everything just cried out TROLL!! I'm not sure anyone fell for this one and actually replied.

Which other ones can any of you remember?

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Love you all!!!!!!!!!

lou33 · 08/04/2005 17:18

Think we all need to be careful about attaching names to people thought of as trolls, until you know for sure one way or the other

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:21

Why Lou?

its not like we're saying Joanna Smith of 35 Anywhere Street is it?

LGJ · 08/04/2005 17:22

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:22

Nor as though these are established posting names, they are first post names and can be abandoned just as easily

thedogmother · 08/04/2005 17:23

I think we're all aware these days that we need to be careful Lou.

OP posts:
lou33 · 08/04/2005 17:24

Because MN can be placed in a difficult situation legally iirc

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:25

not by doubting a name that isn't even a real life name surely

lou33 · 08/04/2005 17:30

iirc mn have been threatened with court action before, tho i cannot recall the exact circumstances, brain too old now.

dinosaur · 08/04/2005 17:33

I can see that this might be an issue where it is an identifiable individual, such as Gina Ford, and slanderous things are being said. But I agree with mud that it must be different where no-one could possibly identify the individual in real life.

Anyway, I will watch with interest to see if NIght comes back.

serenity · 08/04/2005 17:34

you were probably being tactful Lou, but wasn't it the GF ones that got very serious and had court orders etc bandied about?

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:36

Gina Ford is identifiable so I think its a different matter altogether

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:39

actually as I said earlier I think its WRONG to bring any of these suspicions on to the thread in question, I think its fine to debate it in this thread, but if there is the slightest chance that it is a genuine poster then I think its wrong to post any doubt on that particular thread Despite being so vocal here, I have never said I was totally sure and I am actually shocked that someone would have posted a link to this one from there

dinosaur · 08/04/2005 17:41

Sorry that's my fault.

fuzzywuzzy · 08/04/2005 17:42

no mine I've asked for it to be withdrawn....

dinosaur · 08/04/2005 17:44

I have to say though that if she is genuine, there is a very good chance she would have seen this thread anyway, mud, so if you were really worried about it it would have been best not to have named it in the first place.

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:45

I wasn't telling you off I just saw it bumped to the top of active convos and went to have another look and got a bit of a shock

Its a bit like having a conversation about someone and turning round and realising they're standing there

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:46

I disagree, I think if she was genuine she wouldn't be looking at 'which trolls to dyou remember' on a parenting website

Mud · 08/04/2005 17:49

but IF she was genuine she would be very likely to check back into a thread she started asking for advice

Fio2 · 08/04/2005 17:51

IF she had time. Alot of people start posts then come back to them after a day or so, as they dont have time, only have dial up, use a cafe, use someone elses computer, use works computer etc

If you think someone is a troll, email MN. Dont publicise it on a thread

hub2dee · 08/04/2005 17:53

NannyOakley suggesting plastic mattress wraps have stopped SIDs in New Zealand. No messages since IIRC.

JanH · 08/04/2005 17:55

I remember a person saying he was the father of a young teenage boy who wanted to wear nappies

hunkermunker · 08/04/2005 17:59

hub, I was thinking of that one, but had forgotten her name and couldn't be arsed to search for it. I'm on the apathy thread, dontcha know?!

What was the Calpol thing? Think that may have been before my time, but there was a woman who posted on babyworld to say that she'd set up a geocities forum for people who gave their children calpol (calpol milkshakes for her little boy - apparently he'd always been calm!). Was it the same woman?

(PS - Gwenick's right about BW trolls - they're truly vile. One creature recently pretended to her antenatal club that she'd been pregnant with six (or was it seven - she didn't seem sure...), lost four (or five, depending which number you believe in the first place!), then had 'twins' at 17 weeks, who survived for a few weeks, then died - all posted about in totally cold tones (when she "lost" one baby, the post was entitled 'another one bites the dust' ). I found MN a short time later - and have only been back very occasionally!)

pixiefish · 08/04/2005 18:01

hunker- the calpol one was a link to a calpol users forum with all sorts of crap about safe doses etc. It was really dangerous advice.

Someone confessed at the end of that day and said that they were a schoolboy doing a project on peoples responses.
