Trolls, where are they now and which ones do you remember?

Obviously JF/W&R can be classed as a troll.

There are one or two others that I remember, such as one thread that was clearly started by a young male with nothing better to do except try to stir things up on here, along the lines of "I'm a sahm with a ?yr old ds, I like girls and want to meet some, but I don't know how to tell my husband". The whole tone of the post, spellig mistakes and everything just cried out TROLL!! I'm not sure anyone fell for this one and actually replied.

Which other ones can any of you remember?

hijack alert - sorry.
COd - do I really need one of these?
here

Gwenick · 08/04/2005 16:38

"oh I'd already checked nights singular post but was worried it was a regular but then again........"

Most regulars that occasionaly change names for personal stuff generaly state in their post "I'm posting under a different name"

Fio2 · 08/04/2005 16:40

doesnt mean they are though gwenick!

juniperdewdrop · 08/04/2005 16:40

I know that's what I meant Gwenick that you say if you change. Anyway I'm sure we'll find out soon enuf??

Gwenick · 08/04/2005 16:42

true Fio2 - but usually you can 'tell' which are 'genuinely' posting under a different name (or it 'comes out').

bonym · 08/04/2005 16:42

Oh god - is Night's thread really not genuine? Am I a complete twit?

Fio2 · 08/04/2005 16:43

what are you all? the bill goats gruff's?

dinosaur · 08/04/2005 16:43

Well, no-one knows for certain, do they, but I can see why some people are a bit...suspicious and I didn't want you to feel that you were being taken for a ride.

Gwenick · 08/04/2005 16:43

bonym - if she's not genuine it doesn't make you a twit. Many of these trolls are extremely clever.

jjash · 08/04/2005 16:44

Ok i m really new to mn and find it hard to sit and have any interrupted times on it but can anyone tell me how you recognise a troll in the first place ? Am i naive in thinking its shocking that people make stuff up

serenity · 08/04/2005 16:44

No, you are a caring person, and no one knows for sure BUT it's all starting to look a bit fishy. I posted too as have a lot of people and I think thats to our credit rather than being a judgement iyswim!

Mud · 08/04/2005 16:45

what? trip trapping over a bridge?

personally I like trolls - they brighten up the place

Fio2 · 08/04/2005 16:45

sorry i am going to complain the MN HQ because if you were really going to die and just wanted a reference to poems, i very much doubt you would sit on MN all day joining in conversations

juniperdewdrop · 08/04/2005 16:46

fio maybe she is genuine and just been busy but tbh if it was me who was so ill and left a message like that I'd be glad to be 'talking' to others about it. But then again maybe she's just very ill and when she's up and about she'll be back on? But like has already been said I hope she is one as it's an awful thing to go through with a child so young. At least anyone who is will get advice though from the thread (like has been said too)

jjash · 08/04/2005 16:46

feel a bit thick as i posted on nights thread cos it really upset me .

Mud · 08/04/2005 16:46

[email protected]

there you go

Marina · 08/04/2005 16:47

Bonym, I assumed Night was genuine too and still have an open mind as to whether he/she is a troll. I feel like a bit of a wally too, but there you go

tamum · 08/04/2005 16:48

I'm with Mud, and deliberately didn't post. I feel a sense of relief when it's not just me being hard-hearted and suspicious. Like Gwenick, I've seen this kind of thing before too many times to trust it. Sorry fio, I am a nasty person

JoolsToo · 08/04/2005 16:49

the odd thing is there is no response from 'night' to anyones posting - not even a thankyou

juniperdewdrop · 08/04/2005 16:49

nahhhhhh don't feel think we've all done it. I remember on the JF thread saying my dh (a lawyer) probs makes mistakes but then I told him and he said 'no I bloody don't that'd be unprofessional'

thedogmother · 08/04/2005 16:49

I'm back. Sorry for the Pierce Brosnan link on Night's post, it was unintentional.

Let's wait and see shall we.

Any other troll memories anyone?

OP posts:
juniperdewdrop · 08/04/2005 16:50

meant feel thick btw

serenity · 08/04/2005 16:50

Its a difficult call though. There are plenty of threads that I read and my initial thought is hmmm....yes, well, and I normally just don't post. But then you get ones which end up huge and you then wonder whether you should say anything........

Hulababy · 08/04/2005 16:50

I really don't like the idea of accusing someone light Night as being a troll IN CASE you have got it WRONG.

IF you do believe it to be an untrue posting the best thing to do is contact MN and let them deal with it, not do this

What if this person is real and does come back - great support this thread is; and her original post is also a problem as there is a link to here to. I worry what kind of impression ths thread gives to new MN members?

I know trolls do happen and we can all be taken in with them But I think in this case we should definitely err on the side of caution.
