Are you a wasp murderer?? (PLUS: how to deal with stings?)

Just thwacked my first wasp of the year. I hate doing it but am terrified of the blighters. What's your policy? Glass and paper and set them free? Lethal sprays? (Can't do this one at the mo because of pregnancy - also don't like DD inhaling the stuff.)

PLUS: I hate the idea of DD (14m) getting stung but should be prepared I suppose. What's the best way to deal with stings in babies?

I know I'm going to have to act very calm around wasps when DD's watching or she'll end up with a phobia .....

Think paste of Bicarb of soda - but don't know why I think that, probably and old wives tale

I'm a splatter too. I won't run the risk of getting stung by a disgruntled wasp so I flatten them as soon as I spot them.

Hmm, there seems to be a bit of an acid/alkali disagreement here!

I got one of those expat, it didn't catch anything!

I'm a splatterer too, but we also wear lots of insect repellent (cos they always go for me not DH), and you can buy a waspeze pen from the chemists which cools it down straight away if you do get stung, or if you are at home ice works too.

I sprayed with a low toxin spray( suitable for use around babes, pregnant women, respiratory illness sufferers) .... we are able to get here in Aus - have a look at your bug spray aisle - must have something similar.

IF I am out of that - find the nest, at dusk spray with hairspray - stops the wings moving and them flying - often fall to the ground - then splatter nest, wasps and all.

Policy - only good wasp is a dead wasp - with a babe and a toddler around. We had a number of nest in our trees, front landing and so on.

you can get witch doctor gel in tubes, its safe on babies and it numbs thearea and is really cooling, about 2.50 a tube, they sell it in tescos, suitible for all bites and stings, i find it a godsend as ds1 seems to be a flying insect magnet, bless him!

Wasps get killed by spray, bees get ushered gently out (whilst swallowing my fear of them and muttering "it will not sting if I don't hurt it"). Flies, it depends how generous I'm feeling.

Will make a mental note of the bicarb/bee vinegar/wasp remedies though.

Wasps, bees (are they extra enormous this year or what!?) flies all get stuck in my conservatory. HHHAAATE them ALL! I'm more of an usherer out, cos I can't be doing with the mess squashing them makes. Yuk.

I want one of those beaded curtains over the door to keep them out, but I know the children will have it down and millions of beads everywhere in two minutes!

I collect and usher out. I've only ever been stung once, by a confused bee, despite being around lots of them. Staying calm and not running about seems to help.

We do have a special suction thingy for stings, that removes the nasties. Not sure it works, we never seem to use it.

best way to get a bee sting out is with a spoon handle.(according to my mother!)

I think it's vinegar for wasp stings

I am an obsessive wasp killer I am sorry to say. Any wasp I find in the house is not allowed to escape: I would prefer to spend five minutes killing one than five seconds letting it out again. Aren't I cruel? But it is only wasps I feel this way about. They strike me as the meanest, most useless creatures on earth.

i personally scream and hope some1 will kill them for me if that doesnt work and i really have to be in a room that the wasp is in i try and kill it but make sure i can escape if i need to. i will have to find a better way as im havin a baby in next weeks or so and dont want her to be as scared as what i am
