would it bother you if you saw your new neighbour.......

sat on the doorstep smoking a huge spliff ??

he most certainly looks a bit, well lets say rough round the edges. he looks almost grey, and haggered looking, i'd say its quite likely he is an addict. Would you be ok with living next door to someone like this with your young children? would it cross your mind to move home?

Are you sure it wasn't a roll up?

melancholymum · 12/11/2008 22:39

Nah, you never know - could be medicinal?

wrinklytum · 12/11/2008 22:39

Only if he were a childminder

AnarchyAunt · 12/11/2008 22:39

I'd leave him to it tbh. Far rather have a weed smoker next door than an alcoholic.

And don't worry, I'm sure he will not be a bad influence on your children.

bubblepop · 12/11/2008 22:40

well im no expert in these things, but i am pretty certain it was definately not a rolli

Well my neighbours are regularly in the court report of our local paper, so a spliff would be the least of my worries.

Since May, I have witnessed two fights where a knife was pulled, numerous other fights and late night disturbances, four broken windows, a bottling, paint thrown over a house, and gang graffiti appearing. Funnily enough, my downstairs neighbour happens to be a prison officer, but most of my other neighbours on the other side of the road are junkies.

Unless you get directly targeted or affected, I wouldn't say that it's a huge issue. That said, I will be moving to the nice end of town whenever I can afford it.

onager · 12/11/2008 22:42

Well I've smoked the stuff and I'm not dangerous so I wouldn't judge just on that.

Come to think of it don't some people use it for pain management? He could even be sick.

You need to get to know more about him really

bubblepop · 12/11/2008 22:45

so it seems a spliff is an okayish thing to be doing, but what about if he's an addict? does that make any difference? just wondering..dont all start on me now!

solidgoldbrass · 12/11/2008 22:46

Far better a spliff smoker than a cokehead for a neighbour. And as to the grey and haggard bit - how wonderful do you look?
If he's rude, or noisy, or throws rubbish in your garden, then fair play to get annoyed but FFS other than that let the man mind his own business and try minding yours.

well i would judge him of course. is he a single man? no children in the house, i would also judge a man who sat on his front door step drinking out of a can of lager. but i am a judgey type

SlartyBartFast · 12/11/2008 22:48

i would probably breath deeply as well

2shoes · 12/11/2008 22:50

no I would go and ask for a drag

bubblepop · 12/11/2008 22:51

the neighbouring property has lots of single bedrooms which are being advertised for people to come and rent. its not a family home, although it was once but the family who own it moved away and are looking for some sort of income from the property

I think you should be more relaxed about it. Take a leaf out of your neighbour's book? Or spliff??

melancholymum · 13/11/2008 00:17

Sometimes though we must remember that some people are a little naive about drugs and I mean that in the nicest possible way - take my MIL for example she wouldn't have a clue about the differences in effects or changes of personality that can result from one drug to another so perhaps bubblepop is as concerned about her dooby smoking neighbour as I may be having a heroin addict living next door.

hellsbells76 · 13/11/2008 00:23

you'd consider moving because your neighbour's smoking a spliff??

if that's all it takes, i think you may have to move a few times. till you move to the middle of a very, very big field. with no neighbours in a 50 mile radius.

unavailable · 13/11/2008 09:59

Well - I will go against the tide of general opinion, and say that I would be a little concerned. Not because because he is smoking a spliff but because he is doing it so publicly - it is illegal after all. If he has no concern about doing something illegal so openly, it would make me a bit cautious.

I dont think I would consider moving over it though. If it is a privately rented property, you can always complain to the landlord or letting agency. Personally, I would not do this if there are no other cause for complaints.

MrsMattie · 13/11/2008 10:00

I'm not that fussed by weed smokers.

nailpolish · 13/11/2008 10:02

LOL

id rather have some mellow pot smoker next door than a ranting violent alcoholic

Goodness, grey and haggard, smoking a spliff...it might have been my dh!!

Wouldn't bother me...alchohol, smack etc cause more problems than weed in my experience.
