Can anyone beat this? How long does your washer take to do a normal cycle?

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 10:47

from pressing start to running thru a normal 40 degree wash with no extra rinse, no prewash just a wash, a rinse and a spin.

I bet you can;t beat mine

I do wonder what it is doing in there for 2 hours if it isn't constantly getting wet (to save water) or being blasted with hot air/steam or whatever to dry it (to save electricity).

I doubt very much that the eco programme is better for the pockets and the environment than the 30min wash I do which washes at a lower temp and for 1/4 of the time. I suppose it is 'eco' compared to the hotter long washes on there.

NomDePlume · 08/09/2008 11:06

sorry, I appear to accidentally turned this into a dishwasher thread !

Furball · 08/09/2008 11:06

NDP - I've always thought that too about the dishwasher. Mine does a 'quick wash'which is 30 mins and thats all I use, it must be more eco friendly than the eco friendly 2 hour plus programm as a) the water doesn't get scolding and b) it doesn't dry the stuff although they come out dry just with the heat of washing them.

the washing machine on a normal 40 wash is 1hour 13 mins although I cut the spin to 1200 and it takes 50 mins

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:07

nope its more than 3 hours

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:07

it stops very 20 mins or so so it takes even longer if i don't keep checking on it as well

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:08

well - the eco cycle takes almost 12 hours (allowing for the fact that i have to keep pressing it)

Why does it stop ? Is it broken ?

Over 3 hours ?!

Furball · 08/09/2008 11:08

3 hours? blooming heck, I bet even colours come out sparkling white with that what planet are washing machine programme makers on? who wants to wait 3 hours for a wash?

OneLieIn · 08/09/2008 11:09

16 minutes for a normal wash with a rinse and spin...and it does 10kg at a time!

SaintGeorge · 08/09/2008 11:09

55 mins 40 degrees
1hr 14 mins 40 degrees cotton wash

But I use the 30 degree wash - 44 minutes

Rinse & refresh programme is 19 minutes and bloody useful.

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:18

rinse and refresh sounds like such a nice programme StG

Alas i think it is broken but it will have to do until new year (or we could ask for vouchers towards one for our wedding gift list i guess)

It will do a big wash which is useful with having 5 of us. Last night i did half a cycle and it was on from soon after the DCs going to bed at 7ish until 10 with me pressing it immediatly when it stopped. Then to finish off i put it on when i got back from school at 9:30 and it finished 20 mins ago (onlyhad to press it once)

so how long is that..... nearly 6 hours?

I am lucky to actually have a washing machine and am grateful the thing actually goes at all!!

47 mins for 40 degree in a Bosch, bit more, say 50 mins if bigger load or else towels/heavier stuff as it works it out itself..there are longer programs but this seems to work well enough

onepieceoflollipop · 08/09/2008 11:21

I often feel I would benefit from a rinse and refresh myself!

mom - years ago we had a washing machine that did some sort of mixed/eco 30 wash iirc. It would literally go on forever. I think the intention was that you let the washing soak for as long as you wanted, then manually moved it on for a rinse and a spin.

Is yours faulty - do you have the instruction booklet to check what it says?

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:23

no no instructions and google not v good. i have to empty water out of the fabric softener section after each wash too.

tis v faulty but it goes, albeit slowly!

How frustrating for you. When you finally get a new one it will seem such luxury.

If it is currently taking so many hours, might it be cheaper to use launderette of pay a friend to use his/her machine and electricity. I'm only thinking it might be eating loads of electricity while it is doing its stuff...maybe check how the meter is whizzing round when the machine is on?

Niecie · 08/09/2008 11:25

1hour 10 minutes for cottons

47 mins for synthetics but I rarely use this - most stuff is all or almost all cotton and the machine isn't the greatest washer even on 1hr 10 mins.

A Bosch.

Thank goodness I don't have to keep pushing buttons - I would never get any washing done - I would forget.

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:27

the electric is actually cheaper now we have moved and we have v little switched on now to suck it up

does anyne elses bleep when it's finished? and if you don't see to it, it keeps bleeping. Drives me nuts, you just sit down for 5 mins and bleep, bleep, bleep. My washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and breadmaker all frigging bleep. Sometimes i can leave the kitchen for 30 secs and the next thing is bleeping for attention.

MerlinsBeard · 08/09/2008 11:33

lol furball! Are you sure its not a wind up from your DH?

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 08/09/2008 11:35

Mine bleeps, but thankfully it is in the ultility behind a big heavy door, which drowns it out most of the time. Dishwasher also bleeps when finished. Enough to drive you mental.

Ours is over four hours on a normal wash! Its a very old washing machine. its over two i think on a quick wash.

Its a zanussi aquacycle 1000! Betcha all want one!

themoon66 · 08/09/2008 11:46

NomDePlume - sounds like you have the same bosch dishwasher as me.... the so called eco cycle last around 2 hours. Hardly eco.

My bosch washing machine takes 57 mins on a normal, 40 wash with no extra bits.

Why do bosch machines have to beep so much when they finish though?

NomDePlume · 08/09/2008 13:58

4 hours !

Moon66 - mine is the built in one that Bosch do. I think they only do one integrated model.

MrsMattie · 08/09/2008 13:59

1 hr 35 mins.
