Just wondering as I having started planning anything yet what everyone is doing for Valentines Day

OP posts:
Sam29 · 14/02/2003 10:07

My dh always thinks it is a highly entertaining game to make out before every birthday / anniversary / valentines / christmas etc. that he has totally forgotten and is very sorry, it wasn't that important was it etc?. fortunately I am getting wise to this now so last night when he said he needed to drop me off at home so he could go to the corner shop to buy a card I ignored him and sure enough there was a lovely romantic card in bed this morning and tonight are off to a hotel for final weekend of romance before arrival of first baby in three weeks time. Before you think this sounds all too icky can I just point out that he has told me we have to be back from wherever we go out tomorrow daytime in time for the six nations rugby at 1.00! Good thing the hotel has a pool.........

Breeze - 'wait and WEE what I get' - hee hee

I got a red rose and lots of foliage delivered this morning, with a card saying dh was missing me. Not too bad, considering he is in Canada...

BigBird · 14/02/2003 10:15

I bought my DH a bottle of smelly shower gel for 3 quid! Useful anyway so I didn't really waste money. And I got him a card. I expect he will get me a card and he is cooking dinner and we'll have it after dd goes to bed with wine/choccie for afters and then might get an early night.
I know what some of you mean about why 'have' to be romantic on the day but I welcome the excuse to make an effort.

Dh only once ever did the big bunch of roses to work thing - that was on my birthday a few yrs back - and when I got home there was champagne...and then out for a posh meal and then home to be proposed to !!!! That kind of day will only happen once !!

susanmt · 14/02/2003 10:45

AAArgh must make card!!! We usually exchange cards etc in the evening, once the children are in bed. But for romantic things we actually went out for a lovely lunch yesterday as children were at childminder and dh had the day off.

Alibubbles · 14/02/2003 11:10

I got a red leather heart shaped key ring set in silver by
Mulberry, it's lovely. I also collect Hazle china shop fronts and I got the Jewellers - he spoils me!

breeze · 14/02/2003 12:17

I got a fab present and TWO cards actually in the post!! (both from dp I hasten to add). Shame I am feeling absolutely crap full of cold and exhausted.

grommit · 14/02/2003 13:25

Am I the only old cynic who believed Valentines day to be over-commercialised? I would prefer dh just to buy me flowers/chocs on a whim...much more romantic...

EmmaTMG · 14/02/2003 13:34

Oh dear, reading all your posts has made me feel very guilty...maybe I should have made more effort as I only sent DH a valentines card via Friends reunited as it was free but I also didn't get one as I always have to remind him about any thing like this and it's still only me that get a card ready for the special day's morning so I thought I'd give him a chance to make me feel guilty about not getting him a card. Hope that make sense....Aren't I thoughtful !!

Ems · 14/02/2003 13:34

Saw some lovely heart shaped croissants in M&S today, "for the morning after the night before" they say!

Went into Woolies to buy my two littlies a pack of love hearts sweets and they had sold out!!!!

SoupDragon · 14/02/2003 15:31

Dp told me to go to the bathroom at 3pm (when I finished work) and there was a hot bath, cold champagne, a bar of chocolate, a pile of new magazines, candlelight and warm fluffy towels. Also a fizzy bath bomb that dissolved, leaving behind a slip of paper that said I love you. When I turned on my pc this morning there was a fake virus that asked me to choose from 3 photos - one of David Beckham, one of Pierce (swoon) Brosnan and one of DP. Funny messages when I chose the other 2 too! Tonight he's cooking me fresh tuna which he shopped for first thing this morning. I'm so glad I agreed to marry this man, what a lovely day! Oh, and he collected ds from school and took him to the park for 3 hours so I could have my bath in peace. Swoon, swoon, swoon, I'm a very happy woman

Chinchilla · 14/02/2003 18:04

Not jealous www...much

Twink · 14/02/2003 18:16

Quite Chinchilla, you're a lucky (but deserving) woman www.

I thought I was doing OK till I read that - a card & 6 red roses is quite good going here. Then I pushed my luck and asked if he wanted a romantic dinner or tea in front of the TV. He chose the latter, because 'we're married'...

Tinker · 14/02/2003 18:51

Twink. Pretty sure I'm getting a Best of the Undertones cd because, subtly, about 2 weeks ago I said, 'You could get me a Best of the Undertones cd for Valentine's day'. And he keeps saying , 'Well you know what you're getting'

Tinker · 14/02/2003 19:01

Oh, I did get an anonymous card via Friends Reunited and I still haven't figured who it's from!

wickedwaterwitch, please please please please please please PLEASE tell us where you found your man as if there's any left I'd love one like yours. I'm amazed that so much romance can come from one man in one day, if my DH did something like that (fat chance!) he'd be out of romance for the rest of his life.
Maybe if they exchange emails your man could have quiet chat to mine and tell him what being romantic is all about
Well done in finding such fine specimen of the male species, I'll tell all my friends that the prefect man does actually exist now!
Jealous, Moi....No never!!!

batey · 14/02/2003 19:17

PAH!!! That's all I have to say on the Valentine/dh subject!!

Did enjoy doing heart shaped sandwhiches and strawberries for dds lunch box thoough, and a little note from Mummy!! Well, it was nice to do that for someone who appreciates it.....

Rhiannon · 14/02/2003 19:36

Wait for this.. I got a silver (hallmarked!!!) last Rolo in a presentation box.

Flowers too that I picked from Next.

Ghosty · 14/02/2003 20:01

WWW ... soooo lovely ... sigh sigh!
My DH used to be all romantic like that but since we had DS it has sort of petered out ...
I did get a card and some roses but he told me in the morning after I gave him his card and present that he would get them later that day ... if he had time ... took the buzz out of it really!
I think that romance should be all year round ... not just once a year tho' ...
