How can I stop my neighbour and her children invading privacy?

Update on overbearing neighbour.

Hi everyone, after my last post I continued trying to not interact but it got worse.

Today, her children were looking into our front window. Infact her and her children always look into our windows which means I have to have the blinds down 90% of the time.

She has no respect for property. They have let the gate slam so many times that the latch is broke. I keep trying to keep the gate open with a brick, that then gets moved to allow the gate to slam again.

She is invading my privacy, trying to get my attention while im inside my kitchen. She knocks on my gate, she wont respect my privacy at all.

Again there is a language barrier and she doesnt understand me much..

How do I make this woman and her children stop? Its getting to the point I cant even have my blinds open. Its ridiculous

Ignore her 100% or move.

Put your hand up in the universally accepted sign for stop and then ignore her completely

@Gamerchick124 Why is the language barrier a thing. Is it because you have told her that she is invading your privacy and due to her not speaking the same language as you she doesn’t understand you?

DarkchocolateAndtea · Yesterday 15:20

Put up a huge sign on your window of two staring eyes. She'll sharp get the message!!

MissMoneyFairy · Yesterday 15:20

Have you asked the police non emergency line for advice, could they speak to her with an interpreter if language is the problem. Whose gate is it, if it's yours how high is it? Are they coming through your gate and slamming it, I'd get a higher gate with a padlock if you can.

LilyBunch25 · Yesterday 15:22

I'm not sure what you can do about the gate but maybe mirror privacy film might help. I have it in the room I work from home in as its ground floor; works well. At night I have the blind down anyway.

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · Yesterday 15:22

You need a padlock. And a huge Beware of The Dog sign
At the front-sprinklers.

Dreamerinme · Yesterday 15:22

I haven’t seen your previous post so are they coming onto your private property or do you have shared access? If it’s your own property then this is trespassing, surely?

Have you tried to speak to her? If you know their language could you see if you could find someone who speaks the same language who would write you a note to give them to tell them to stay off your property?

Be careful as this is also the universally accepted offer of a high five.

Why are you propping the gate open? Easiest thing would be to put a padlock on it, unless this is a shared access gate.

If this is your own property then speak to the non-emergency police number as it sounds like trespassing. They might have access to an interpreter who could explain that you cannot keep going onto someone’s private property.

If you share access to your properties then it’s more complicated so ignore, never engage, apply window film to windows, motion-activated sprinklers etc.

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 15:29

Use google translate to find out how to say "stay away from me and leave me the fuck alone" in her language?

OldJohn · Yesterday 15:44

Have you ever taken time to talk to her? Maybe ask her in for a cup of tea, get to know her as a neighbour. Build a decent relationship and then explain about privacy.

Why should op have to do that? They are ignorant enough to slam gates and stare in windows, why would she want anything to do with them.

stopbeingnasty · Yesterday 16:12

You simply stop people pleasing and get angry with her. Language barrier or not, if you say 'stop' in a clear enough tone she'll get the message.

FFS why do people trot out the 'just move' shit ?
Most peope can't pull ourt a wad of £ks of their arse to finance a move and why should they have to leave their home and move away from family, friends, support or work just to get away from selfish twat ?

This is sensible advice. Asking her to have coffee, why the hell would you??

It's the truth. Find a way to handle it. Or move.

fridaynightzzz · Yesterday 16:37

Is it a shared gate? Otherwise I’d be putting a lock on it.
maybe a diagram would help!

To hell with that idea! Honestly OP I’d get really angry and would probably tell them to fuck off, sling a bucket of water out of the window etc. If they want to be rude and inconsiderate then two can play at that game.

Or move of course, now I know it's so easy to do. If I move again it's easy and I won't to find nearly £13k in legal and removal fees, estate agent fees, survey reports et al, that it cost to get my current home.🙄

No it isn't! Why the fuck would the police provide a translator to speak to the neighbour? The OP should write the message she wants to give and use a translation app on her phone. And ask to be left alone. Then if the behaviour persists report it as harassment.

WecanbeheroeslikeBowie · Yesterday 16:45

Why would you use motion activated sprinklers ? Most kids would love that to play in and OP gets to pay for it on her water bill. Sounds like a great idea, not.

Actually I was refering to asking the police for advice was a sensible idea, not the translator bit that would be daft.😆

Don't be silly offering a high five is totally different posture body language and facial expressions if you look the same giving a clear stop signal and offering a high five you have bigger problems than a neighbour
