Can I wear this dress to a wedding?

Is this a suitable dress to wear as a wedding guest? I really love it but wondering if the sequins are too much maybe? I don’t want to look silly 🤣

It’s also sold as a bridesmaid dress, so wasn’t sure if it was too much for a guest to wear? Don’t want to tread on any toes in any sense.

Opinions please? :D

It's a lovely dress, but no, too bridesmaid.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/04/2025 12:04

I wouldn't. It's very bridesmaidy.

SwanRivers · 04/04/2025 12:05

It's a beautiful dress, especially if you have a figure similar to the model.

I would definitely buy it, but not to wear to a wedding I'm afraid.

LurcherMumma · 04/04/2025 12:06

There is something very bridesmaidsy about it to my eye sorry . I think it's more the colour than the sequins.
I'd say as a wedding guest you could happily get away with lots of sparkle though.

scrivette · 04/04/2025 12:11

It’s a beautiful dress, I love it, but quite bridesmaid looking. Do you know what the bridesmaids will be wearing - if it’s a completely different style and colour to them then it may be okay?

chakrakkhan · 04/04/2025 12:12

No. It’s a bridesmaid dress, advertised in the wedding section on ASOS. It’s lovely but not for a guest sadly.

JeanGenieJean · 04/04/2025 12:13

No, it's too much like a bridesmaid's dress. People might think you wanted to be one but weren't asked.
It is a lovely dress though.

MMmomDD · 04/04/2025 12:13

I’d say it depends on culture/location/size of wedding/ type of party and venue.

At my wedding - a large multicultural fun party - in summer, in a large bright venue - you’d be great in that.

But if its more subdued - then not sure.

Ask friends/other guests what they are wearing?

ConnieHeart · 04/04/2025 12:15

I'm going against the grain & saying it's fine for a guest, as long as it's not too similar to the bridesmaids' dresses

SJM1988 · 04/04/2025 12:16

Depends on the style of wedding, colour, bridesmaid dresses etc.

It does look a bit bridesmaidy but most formal dresses do now I think. It not floor length (every wedding I have been to has floor length bridesmaid dresses at least) and if you don't carry flowers like the photo lol , it easily passes for a guest dress.

Marianwallace · 04/04/2025 12:18

I think it would be ok as long as it is nothing like the bridesmaids dresses.

Katiesaidthat · 04/04/2025 12:21

It depends. I think the colour is a bit subdued, but I really like it. I´m sure you won´t be carrying the bouquet...Where are you? Because if England, aren´t weddings there a bit underdressed? More for the continent, perhaps?

hippopandamouse · 04/04/2025 13:16

Thank you all for taking the time to reply! ☺️ I think I’m leaning more towards it being too like a bridesmaid dress in honesty - bit gutted really haha! It’s a family wedding so definitely don’t want to overstep the mark! My daughter is actually a bridesmaid 🥰 I’ll attach a photo of her dress!

It looks like you're in the bridal party or a bridesmaid

I wouldn't

No.

It sort of doesn’t matter what the official bridesmaids are wearing. You’ll look like you’re trying be in the wedding party as a grown up bridesmaid.

ItGhoul · 04/04/2025 16:12

It's beautiful but sequins, chiffon and blush pink are probably a bit much for a wedding guest - as others have said, it's more appropriate for a bridesmaid. Lovely dress, though.

Manchesterbythesea · 04/04/2025 16:13

Too bridesmaidy sorry

PurplGirl · 04/04/2025 16:39

Literally no clue what everyone is going on about??? It doesn’t look like specifically like a bridesmaids dress (I’ve never seen sequins on a bridesmaids dress ever and half the guests at recent weddings I’ve been to were wearing chiffon), it just looks like a nice dressy up dress. Paired with a cropped jacket for the daytime and plain shoes and bag, this would be beautiful for a wedding. Crucially It’s also nothing like the bridesmaid dresses.

Why would she? The dresses are entirely different colours and styles.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 04/04/2025 16:45

I have worn that actual dress as a bridesmaid so I’m firmly in the bridesmaid dress camp sorry. As an aside the sequins are very scratchy and I chafed my upper inner arms on them something chronic.

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 04/04/2025 16:48

No.

CarpetKnees · 04/04/2025 16:48

@PurplGirl because, to the perception of everyone else on the thread, it looks like a bridesmaid's dress.

I thought that, even before I got to the bit in the OP that said "It's sold as a bridesmaid dress".

It doesn’t look like a bridesmaids dress though. More people than not have said so, but not that many replies tbf. And the FB comments are firmly in team wear it, doesn’t look bridesmaidy, so even Steven’s. What about it do you think makes it look so? (Bearing in mind bridesmaids dresses rarely if ever have sequins on, let alone a full bodice, and bridesmaids dresses can be any colour)?
No one is actually going to think OP is trying to/wished she was a bridesmaid. That’s just plain weird. It literally couldn’t look less like the actual bridesmaids dress.

Botanybaby · 04/04/2025 16:54

No

Just no

Unless your the bride or a bridesmaid who's been told to find a dress in that colour
