Just wondered really. After telling my friend how useless dh is in the romantic department, I ended up with a beautiful white gold and diamond eternity ring, and a black brushed soft leather jacket! Both in the correct size too. I take everything back about dh needing a romance transplant. Also got some Clarins perfume from my sister, and a spending spree at Top Shop complete with personal advisor, complimentary drinks and gift. As long as the girl who helps me isn't 15 years old, trying to squeeze me into micro skirts and trying to make me look like Lesley Joseph on a bad day I'm going to have a ball!

Have so far managed to stay bug free ( but have probably jinxed myself now) Robin, although ds1 is still coughing like an old smoker. Dd2 is 6 today so hopefully nothing related to virus or bacteria will strike me down for a bit longer.

New Jamie Oliver cookbook and another called 'Moro' which is fab. Videos, Little Prince calendar, sweets, a toaster (I chose!)new purse, nice olive oil and Scrabble (lost bits of old one) Lots more little things - best pressies in ages!

CAM · 29/12/2002 12:01

Lulu Guiness bath robe and perfume (from dh), Clarins (from mil), Norah Jones cd (from dd) and fantastic antique silver spoons and forks (from parents)- I am very chuffed. Would swap all for diamond ring though.

Rhiannon · 29/12/2002 15:59

Lots of smellies from Virgin & M&S. Shirley Hughes autobiography. Earrings from M&S. 2 x cuddly scarf and gloves from M&S. Fleecy dressing gown. Sadly all pre-chosen and bought by me as sick of being unhappy at Christmas as DH would go out on 24th and wonder why he couldn't get much.

Got a big hanging stuffed parrot from Barbados, not sure where to put it though!

lou33 · 29/12/2002 22:25

Cam, what's the Norah Jones cd like, because I am thinking of buying it? She has such a beautiful voice.

Fave presents were purple glass chandelier (I chose) for newly decorated - and plum coloured - dining room. And Best of Tim Hardin - listening to it now, getting pi%ed listening to 'Simple Song of Freedom' - "let it fill the air, tell the people everywhere, we the people here don't want a war". Aaargh, must stop watching 'World at War' in the mornings!!!

Dannie · 30/12/2002 00:21

CAM - that's spooky, I got Norah Jones too. Was she on special locally or something?

CookieMonster · 30/12/2002 10:12

A lovely handbag from dh (yes, I left the catalogue out for weeks and drew a large arrow pointing at the one I wanted ), some White Linen (my favourite perfume), Classical Chillout Gold cd and a HUGE box of Thorntons Continental which will probably last until March ....

Tissy · 30/12/2002 12:24

Pretty disappointed, really. I got 4 CDs from dh and dd- ones that he likes (although I like them as well)and a watch that I needed. The watch wasn't one of the half-dozen or so that I carefully pointed out to dh before Christmas, and I don't really like the style, and it doesn't fit! Don't know whether to bite my tongue and get the strap adjusted at the jeweller's, or to admit that I don't like it, and hope he'll take it back and get me one of the others!

My mother gave me 2 papier mache bowls, and 2 horn egg spoons (eh?), but luckily my dad came up trumps with a case of wine, so I can drown my sorrows (very slowly as still b/feeding ).

Crunchie · 30/12/2002 22:04

Oh I think I got the best pressie of all from my dear MIL ... an avocado slicer :D Now don't all be jealous aparently these are just the thing everybody needs!!! From the same woman I got an orange juicer thingy, a potato masher and a giant game of pick up sticks!!! The same woman gave my 3 yr old a singing dancing hamster (thanks - not) and the baby gotone of those walking barking little yappie dogs, without the batteries we needed She spends an utter fortume on pressies and always always gets total c**p Last year along with the hand held blender thingy (we'd had a conversation that I wanted a food processor which my dh was getting me, she decided I was wrong and I needed the hand held jobby that I already had!) She got me a bell for my mobile phone, that apparently starts ringing befoe the phone does...needless to say that went straight to the car boot sale unopened, along withthe miners lights for the head, that both dh and I recieved from her!!!
However I also got the Norah Jones CD from my dog (it's really great whoever wanted to know) and the bestthing of all was a handmade calender from my girls that my nanny had made, with photos and art cutouts from the past year...that brought tears to my eyes

anoushka · 31/12/2002 11:00

I think my best present was a 2 hour pampering session at the local beauty spa - aromatherapy massage, facial etc. However, am a little nervous as last time I received this - 2 years ago, I couldn't use it for 18 months as I found out I was pregnant a couple of days after Xmas. Tempting fate or what?

pluto · 31/12/2002 19:11

Parents in Law really surpassed themselves this year. An inflatable bath pillow with radio.

WideWebWitch · 31/12/2002 20:36

Oh sobernow, how sweet of your DP. I got a Jamie Oliver cook book, hair straighteners and (phoar, I was pleased with this as am sad lechy housewife!) a David Beckham calendar from dp. He has stipulated that it has to live in my office though, not downstairs. Also got a lovely lamp and Cold Feet/Sex and the City dvds from my sister and a beautiful framed photo of us 3 as children and some large wine glasses
(we break about one glass a week so very handy) from my other sister. My mum gave us lovely crockery and cutlery, which we needed.

Hilary · 31/12/2002 20:53

Got a hat, an Alan Titchmarsh calendar and a choc orange from DS. What a thoughtful 1 year old, he is. Hooded top, underwear set, What Not to Wear book (I requested this DH is quick to assure people!), and gold bracelet from DH. Plus sale spending money agreed.

I'm too embarassed to list all the things I got from my parents - my Mum always spends loads. OK go on but you will see I'm spoilt (a coat, blouse, woolly zip top, knickers, omelette pan, chocs, mulled wine kit, oil and vinegar shakers, nativity scene set and I've probably missed something).

Caroline5 · 02/01/2003 18:39

Dh bought me some clothes (chosen by me). My parents bought me some books, socks and a new laundry basket (had asked for this!) Dh's family is spread all over the world, so they don't really do Xmas presents much.

Rhiannon · 02/01/2003 21:29

Alibubbles, where are you? Come on what did you get? R

Alibubbles · 03/01/2003 09:17

Hi Rhiannon, I'm just back from skiing now! As we were away from the 20th, my parents were in Thailand and DD was in Italy skiing, we are actually having christmas with the family on saturday!!

DH did give me a lovely Burberry handbag on Christmas day, but we had agreed that we would only take one present each. I gave him a Boss sweater, DS got an Australian/English phrase book as he is going on a Rugby tour for a month in the summer. DD a cashmere Burberry scarf.

As I had an 18ct gold Rolex watch for my 2Oth wedding anniversary this year,DH has been forbidden to buy anything else for Christmas.

We also tend to make a lot more of our birthdays as we are always away skiing for Xmas. For my birthday in Nov, I got a Burberry Leather duffel coat, it is fabulous! DH had a GPS navigation system for the plane. ( Yes, we flew to France for lunch too, I find it a bit scary, so only do it about once a month)

(Guess who went to the Burberry factory shop to do their Christmas shopping!)

Glad you had a good time in Barbados.

sister · 03/01/2003 11:37

It sounds like you all got some really lovely pressies. I got absolutely nothing from dh which really upset me. From mil I got a set of kitchen knifes!!!! I'm almost getting to the point where I can see the funny side of it!!!
At least my mother knows what treats I like!

SimonHoward · 03/01/2003 11:57

I got the latest Terry Pratchett book, a dressing gown, some bars of Noughat and a face care pack with some sort of lotion in it (aging aunt of DW's sent em that).

Didn't get any of the other stuff on the list I sent Santa.

grommit · 03/01/2003 12:53

I got some designer underwear and a 'What not to wear' book from DH - do you think he is trying to tell me something?? My Mother bought me the most hideous furry pyjamas with a picture of a seal on the front (would look great on a 10yo)...

aloha · 03/01/2003 13:31

Alibubbles, please write and say you are a fictional character, created by a real person who lives in a run-down one bedroom flat with damp, and never irons and buys her clothes from Oxfam and has horrible, backward, badly behaved children. Because frankly, otherwise I'll my discontent with my own life will make me too bitter and twisted for the good of my health! The ironing was one thing, the daily sheets another, and the babies who were toilet trained by 8 weeks (or similar) was almost too much too bear. But the extensive property portfolio... the holidays... the gifts... Aaargh! I can't take anymore...

Ps Are you one of those secret Lottery winners?
