What did you all get for Christmas?

Just wondered really. After telling my friend how useless dh is in the romantic department, I ended up with a beautiful white gold and diamond eternity ring, and a black brushed soft leather jacket! Both in the correct size too. I take everything back about dh needing a romance transplant. Also got some Clarins perfume from my sister, and a spending spree at Top Shop complete with personal advisor, complimentary drinks and gift. As long as the girl who helps me isn't 15 years old, trying to squeeze me into micro skirts and trying to make me look like Lesley Joseph on a bad day I'm going to have a ball!

My dd gave me 6 hours sleep on Christmas Eve!

honeybunny · 27/12/2002 16:27

dh managed 2cds and an address book. Whoopee! NB hint of sarcasm. He then put a large cheque into a What not to Wear book and said why dont you buy yourself something nice! Oh it really made my day complete. Along with the poo and more poo from ds2 (d+v virus) all over the hall and stair carpet. And my thumping headache and hacking cough, not improved by alcohol sadly, although I tried v hard!

SoupDragon · 27/12/2002 17:10

A digital camera!

Now all I need to do is work out how to get the photos from the camera to the PC...

prufrock · 27/12/2002 18:44

Well dh was wonderfully genourous and bought diamond earings. But his mother bought me 4 teatowels!

Chinchilla · 27/12/2002 18:57

A 'Twin Peaks' DVD series one set; Two Chanel lipsticks (luuuuuvvvvverly); Money; Knee High Boots....

Not all from my dh I hasten to add. Lou33, I'm jealous, I have been hinting for an eternity ring for ages, well, since we got married really!

willow2 · 27/12/2002 19:20

Joe Malone tuberose scent (mmmmm) and some beautiful boots, two books I wanted and a best of The Beat cd. V happy!

kkgirl · 27/12/2002 19:21

My dh don't usually buy each other anything. We have three children and it seems more important that they get what they want.
This year though I bought him a T Shirt and a torch and he was really pleased.
He bought me a Grease and Saturday Night Fever DVD and some other things which cannot be mentioned on Mumsnet!!!!!!!!

tigermoth · 27/12/2002 19:37

lou33, can I swap families? I'll be with you in spirit on your shopping trip to top shop. I entered a competion recently, the prize was a shopping spree in top shop. Thinking that my age (44) would disqualify me, I knocked ten years off it! Sad or what!

Anyway, back to your question, I got more peace and joy than I expected and, prize gift from dh, (chosen by moi) a parka.

janh · 27/12/2002 19:47

My best presents were chosen by moi, too, tigermoth - some of just can do it and some of us can't. (One of my DDs can and one can't, so far, we'll see how it goes in a year or 2.)
My DH says "how do you know what I want when I don't know what I want?" when I produce perfect presents year after year.
It's a gift!
Anyway I got The Mitford Girls and an automatic SLR camera (which I bought) which I was v happy with. No lipstick, jewellery or boots but I am a sad old thing!

JJ · 27/12/2002 19:59

Airplane tickets to London for a weekend without anyone but me, myself and I. YES!

Toots · 27/12/2002 20:36

I'm cock a-hoop with my stash: hair straighteners (no more bad hair days - yeeha) new book on Samuel Pepys and a pair of running shoes, a lovely surprise from my sister (who I quickly forgave for upsetting me on Christmas eve). I gave both her and DP five year diaries. I love mine, My mum's doing one too, we're on the third year and it's no great commitment, just four lines a day. I'm constantly flabergasted by the boozy laziness of my life before t't babby. DD 14months was most delighted with her 5 quid doll's pushchair. She did a huge grunt on seeing it, then a long string of dribble. That is what I call a satisfied customer.

mckenzie · 27/12/2002 21:15

Every year I tell my DH that I really don't want/need anything for christmas and why dont we just by ourselves a new tv/shower/holiday/set of saucepans etc and every year we still do end up buying each other things (and his presents are usually very personal and I always love them.)

But not this year! I still bought him things but he took me at my word for the first time ever and I'm a bit gutted. And he forgot to buy me a card or a present from our DS. Will I ever forgive him?

Eulalia · 27/12/2002 21:37

Dressing gown and warm socks from dh. Exciting eh?! But I am so chuffed with the socks I've not taken them off yet.

I am easily pleased

lou33 · 27/12/2002 22:53

Chinchilla, I was more than a bit surprised I have to admit. Dh is more the sort of bloke who would normally end up getting me fur lined rubber gloves and a chocolate orange! Having said that it is the nicest thing I have ever been bought, and I cried when I got it.

Tigermoth, I know what you mean. I am getting a bit worried about being dragged around the store by some bored saturday girl, who tries and squeezes me into clothes that make me look like Kat Slater, because it will amuse her to see an almost 36 year old (next week!)being publicly humiliated. I don't have any friends locally having only moved here recently, so it will be one of 3 choices,my oldest dd who is 10 1/2, dh, or just me doing it solo. AT least at Top Shop I should be able to get a fair few things for my money, esp now the sales are starting!

lou33 · 27/12/2002 22:54

Ooh Eulalia I forgot to add, dh was desperately hoping for socks this Christmas, seeing as he manages to hole the heels after about 3 wears, and was quite upset not to get some!

Gary Rodes cook book, le cruese caserole dish, another cook book and an apron. Before you all freak that is what was on my Santa list, so it's my own fault really but I did hope for an extra romantic suprise.
Sadly I also got the 'kill an OX strain' of PMT on Christmas Eve so if Santa had have turned up in the form of Brad Pitt I would have told him he was a selfish b-d and I hated him!
I have always marvelled at hormonal timing.

suedonim · 28/12/2002 00:51

A rocking sheep, two Bill Bryson books, a Robbie Williams CD from dd1 and an Andy Williams(!) CD from dd2. Several travel bags and sets of travel smellies, a big box of Lush goodies, ear-rings, miniature china teapots(!), and chocs, chocs, chocs. I'm not sure how I'll get it all out to Jakarta but I've made a start on reducing the pile by tucking into the choccies.

Enid · 28/12/2002 09:07

I had a lovely Christmas and got lots of lovely presents including a Game Boy Advance (sad I know, but I wanted one) which came in very handy as I sat in hospital yesterday waiting for a d&c - mmm, very festive!

megg · 28/12/2002 11:37

I got Nigella Lawson Forever Summer book which unfortunately has to go back as the pages are all messed up (big chunk missing others duplicated) and the new Maeve Binchy book which I finished on Christmas Day when I got it and thoroughly enjoyed. Because we spent (far) too much on ds dp and I will treat ourselves later in the year. Dp got the greatest hits Gabrielle cd which is very good. We got money from my Dad so I will be trawling Amazon for new cookery books.

Lindy · 28/12/2002 12:02

Enid - hope all went well.

I got two new saucepans, exactly what I wanted and had asked for!! I am very practical can't bear surprises like the two CDs DH also bought me (I NEVER listen to music ............ perhaps he wanted them for himself!!)

Lucy123 · 28/12/2002 13:48

I'm very pleased this year too. My dp is absolutely useless at buying presents (though he does try, bless him) but this year I got some books and a bonsai tree. How exciting!

megg · 28/12/2002 16:29

lou33 for some reason my dp wanted socks as well and was quite excited when he got some. Not sure why he wanted socks as he's in the Navy and gets black ones free.

jac34 · 28/12/2002 17:01

I got some Estee Lauder make up(correct shades),of dh but I'd already had a weekend away, before Christmas.Had some small things and a cheque, of my parents.I was generally very happy with the things I had, but could have been a bit more exciting !!!
