Yes, that'll be me then!!

You may remember I've been an MUFC fan since the days of George Best, and what with life and dd coming along, priorities change. Which all means that I have never seen Ronaldo or Rooney play. Ever. And we only usually get to spank the Arse for 3 hours per year, so you may be able to appreciate just how thrilled I am!!! To see the team playing the BEST football in Europe, withthe best player in the world in the team.. And my mate who I'm going with is a Coventry supporter and has not been to OT for 20 years, but watches the Utd games on tv with me as a supporter.

Did I say I was excited??.

I can't wish you well for today, as I hope you'll understand, but do really hope you manage to capture Ronaldinho!!

May even do a match report, just for you!!

Did I mention I was excited??

Squonk is a Man City supporter i believe???

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 10:36

she is indeed Ddf, hence my Ronaldinho reference, as MCFC are intending on bidding for him. But we have posted on footie matters in M/c before, and are easy about our respective sides, and as a footie person would grasp the source and extent of my deep joy!!

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 10:36

well... um... I hope you have a nice time.

ish.

And I kind of hope we get Ronaldinho as well.

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 10:38

actually... I can imagine your excitement

Family stuff kind of makes footie matches a problem. I used to go to Maine Road when pg with dd1, but then after she arrived, the only people who would babysit wanted to go to the match

Then I moved to Yorkshire (bit of a footie desert)

I did take her to Elland Road to watch city get beaten by Leeds. Then bloody Leeds went and got relegated!

I have high hopes of Hull City being promoted this year. I might even go and watch them when they're not playing city

hope you have a good day. And I suppose you can do the match report if you like.... I may even read it

TheOldestCat · 12/04/2008 10:39

Waves at fellow city fan Squonk!

Have fun PaninoPan.

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 10:39

(btw, thanks fred )

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 10:41

(Pan - I have driven past the City of Manchester stadium to see what it was like, but have never watched city play there, although I have seen them over this side of the Pennines. But that should tell you how long it is since I saw them play a home match)

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 10:44

thanks Toc.

Dd won some tickets last season to go to the City-Spurs game at City....at the sort of age when young heads can be turned easily and, and ,and..she may have turned......blue!!

You're not missing much with not visiting COMS Squonk - I still can't get used to it - I miss Maine Road

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 10:46

YYYAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!

you'll have to redecorate her room

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 10:47

the stadium looks quite good (will be driving past it on Sun), but there is little sign that it is actually the home of MCFC. The municipal nature of the ground ownership must make this complicated.

OP posts:
Lucycat · 12/04/2008 10:48

oh gawd, that looks like the pictures of dh's bedroom when he was a boy - and now if I let him

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 10:48

Squonk - I'd rather chew my own fingers off.

OP posts:
Lucycat · 12/04/2008 10:52

lol at chewing your fingers - that's just like watching City!

the only good things about the new ground is the niceish toilets, the fact that it's all non smoking and that all the season ticket people moved en block from Maine Road so we get to grumble together.

zippitippitoes · 12/04/2008 10:58

oh i am hugely jealous

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 11:07

ooh, I'm liking the thought of nice toilets (see, I am a girl )

Maine Raod toilets - North Stand: they painted over the cigarette butts on the floor (honestly! they were there for years!)

New Platt Lane Stand - they put the ladies toilets opposite the bar - almost impossible to get into at half time

Bet the toilets still don't have heating though

I'm sure they will Ruby. I expect Rooney is spending the day perefecting his falling over in the penalty area, as we speak!

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 11:58

Maureen!. Rooney is far more sinned against than sinning! And let's not go down that mis-informed debate about teams not getting pens at Old Trafford. eg Wednesday nights perfect tackle agaonst AS Roma ending in a pen that the gods of football ensured went over the bar.
Do admire Wenger's professed sight difficulties - totally shamefaced.

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 12/04/2008 12:11

Dotcha love a footie debate!

I still have a huge problem from 3 seasons ago, when Rooney shamelessly threw himself on the floor, to prevent Arsenal getting their 50th win in a row!

PaninoPan · 12/04/2008 12:30

I think it was 49 games 'unbeaten'...and that day Utd played them tactically off the park.....and Rooney was nudged ref!!

a friend of mine is a blue and he describes supporting City as "hope for the best, prepare for the worst".

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 12/04/2008 12:33

That's kinda how Arsenal fans are feeling this week. As long as we don't get completely slaughtered tomorrow, I think that's all we can hope for this season. We may be out of the Champions League now, but at least we can fight to be in the mix again next year! I'm reasonably confident that things aren't that bad, that we'll finish lower than 4th!

pan - my dad has a saying about city... most weeks they manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

(what did Ronaldinho do in the world cup? I obviously have forgotten )

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 12/04/2008 13:00

oh Ronaldo! sorry.

Oh, I know what that cheating little bastard did!

sorry
