What music would you have played at your funeral? and why! Have you ever considered a themed funeral?

Like a Bat out of Hell by Meatloaf!!!!!
And if i can't have that then Time To Say Goodbye sung by Andrea Bocelli... it's a stunning piece of music and his voice is just haunting.

SantaGoesToTheGym · 16/12/2004 13:47

I went up the aisle to The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba Much to my mothers dismay, she thought it was just a wedding wind up until she saw it on the order of service a week before.

So I guess I would like to come in to Queen of Sheba and go out to My Way.

I would like a biodegradble coffin painted white and I want a big pile of magic markers left on top, then people can write their farewells.

Oh and my dearest wish,is not to upset the natural order of things, so I would like to outlive my parents and for my child to outlive me.

KateandtheElves · 16/12/2004 13:57

They played Bridge Over Troubled Water at my sister's funeral.

My husband's memorial service was in a Catholic church, so it was all hymns of course.

I haven't thought about mine before - I hope it's when I'm 106 and everyone will be able to be happy and celebrate my life, but even so there will not be any fancy dress. That's the worst idea I've ever heard (sorry).

Thinking about it, I guess I would like Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways" which was my wedding song (and which I haven't listened to since my husband died).

motherinfestivemood · 16/12/2004 14:01

I used to want to be cremated to 'see what the boys in the back room will have', sung in Blazing Saddles. I still think it's a nice idea, but am entertaining new suggestions. I quite like the idea of subjecting the congregation to all the naff country music they wouldn't let me play in their hearing when I was alive - maybe cremation to Lyle Lovett's cover of 'Stand by your man'?

I do want 'Will you still love me tomorrow' playing as they leave the crem, deffo.

SantaGoesToTheGym · 16/12/2004 14:05

Sorry Kate and the Elves

Hope I didn't upset you with comment re natural order, it is just that it is one of my greatet fears. Had cancer 10 years ago and I am now the proud owner of a heart condition, albeit mild, but it does make me feel very mortal at times.

I love this, by Divine Comedy (the words seem a little flat to me written down, but sung it's one of the most beautiful hymns to life i've ever heard)

Charmed Life

When I hold you in my arms
And look back on my charmed life, my charmed life,
I hope, I hope if nothing more
That one day you'll call your life a charmed life.

Well I've never really worried that much
About making lots of money and such
And I always seem to land upon my feet.
And though there's been some difficult times
The good times were never far behind.
I've snatched all of my victories from the jaws of defeat.

When I hold you in my arms
And look back on my charmed life, my charmed life,
I hope, baby I hope if nothing more
That one day you'll call your life a charmed life.

Well the course of true love never ran smooth.
They broke my heart and I broke theirs too,
And breaking up is so very hard to do.
But I knew I'd find the one,
And sure enough she came along,
And not long after that along came you.

Well sometimes this life is like being afloat
On a raging sea in a little row-boat,
Just trying not to be washed overboard.
But if you take your chances and you ride your luck,
And you never, never, never, never, never give up
Those waves will see you safely to a friendly shore.

When I hold you in my arms
I know that this is a charmed life.
A charmed life.

KateandtheElves · 16/12/2004 14:50

Not at all SantaGoesToTheGym. I understand completely. I'm a lot more aware of my own mortality now that I'm my children's only parent, and though I don't want to outlive them, I do hope that they're old and grey by the time I die.

StNickschik · 16/12/2004 15:25

Excellent choice Bundle - although you've just set me off weeping! - what a wuss I am!
My choice would be a 70s song that I remember as a little girl 'Seasons in the Sun' but can't remember the singer 'we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun, but the da da da .... are all gone !!!! - anyone remember it. I used to know all the words and remember it was quite sad - thinking about it now makes me feel like crying! Anyone would think i was pregnant - wish I was!

WigWamBam · 16/12/2004 15:33

It was Terry Jacks who sang Seasons in the Sun

5goldendillydallys · 16/12/2004 15:35

WWB to the rescue!

How do you do it!

purpleturtle · 16/12/2004 15:42

Funny, I was thinking about this earlier - brought on by a funeral theme in this afternoon's Doctors! I thought maybe the song DH and I played all the time when we first started going out, but then maybe 'All I wanna do is have some fun' isn't really appropriate? I think I'd settle for the celtic folk rock track we had at our wedding though.

StNickschik · 16/12/2004 15:43

Ah ha, though it was Terry someone! Thanks WWB, it would have bugged me for the rest of the day!

MariNativityPlay · 16/12/2004 15:52

Bundle, lovely choice. That song has special resonances for me too.
I'd like the Agnus Dei from the Vaughan Williams Mass in G Minor sung at my funeral service. Just love that mass setting so much.

bundleofyulelogs · 16/12/2004 16:15

marina, i feel all tingly even when i just think about it. i love the faure requiem too.

jingleoooggs · 16/12/2004 21:29

'Going on up to the spirit in the sky'

NoMoomAtTheInn · 16/12/2004 21:36

at Steptoe and Son music!

Wouldn't mind 'Hallelujah' - Jeff Buckley version but it's not terribly original. Or 'Into My Arms' by Nick Cave, perhaps...

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

But I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candles burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

Smashingpumpkin · 16/12/2004 21:43

Had a b/f who wanted Dire Straits Brothers In arms which I think would be quite appropriate but personally would opt for

Wish you were here- Pink Floyd,
or
Visions of Johanna - Bob Dylan as it is the song I am named after

Also quite like the idea of

Come up and see me (make me smile) S harley and the Cockney Rebel

Oh feel quite reflective now x

InDulciJulieF · 16/12/2004 23:01

Definately the Agnus Dei from Faure Requiem. Beautiful piece of music.

misdee · 16/12/2004 23:04
