What music would you have played at your funeral? and why! Have you ever considered a themed funeral?

hosannainIXELsis · 16/12/2004 11:41

I'm having Feeling Good (Nina Simone)as people leave, and probably California Dreaming as they enter! Just because I like them.

TumbleflumpDancingBum · 16/12/2004 11:41

Not really sure at the moment, heard similar on the local radio station yesterday and it got me wondering, someone wants all their guests to turn up as cowboys and indians, and the sound of a tune from a western film. I'm not very good with death, so thought it would be a good idea to lighten the circumstances some what...depending on the time of year I think if it was winter I would like everyone to come as eskimos....if it were summer I would like everyone to come as characters out of shakespears midsummernights dream...

spacey - we had that at my grandad's funeral (sunshine)

Amanda3266 · 16/12/2004 11:43

A gay friend of mine says he want's nothing religious. Instead he's like "The Queen is Dead" by the Sex Pistols.

WigWamBam · 16/12/2004 11:52

I want a woodland burial in a biodegradable coffin, a tree for a headstone, and just the music of nature (birds singing, trees rustling) at the burial.

5goldendillydallys · 16/12/2004 11:54

If I am being cryogenically frozen can I still have music?

Joolstide · 16/12/2004 11:54

Celebration by Kool and the Gang - why be miserable? - I'll be 106 and enjoyed every minute of it!

Raindog · 16/12/2004 11:55

'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye' is what mum has said she wants.

ladyrobinredbreast · 16/12/2004 12:04

everytime i hear this song i cry it is so beautiful told dh i would play this at his funeral if i go first he will play it at mine!!!

thinkingh of the day you went away
what a life to take what a bond to break
i"ll be missing you

soo beautiful

puff diddy ft faith

i'll be missing you

Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I laced the track, you locked the flow
So far from hangin' on the block for dough
Notorius they got to know that
Life ain't always what it seem to be
Words can't express what you mean to me
Even though you're gone we still a team
Thru your family I'll fulfill your dreams
In the future can't wait to see if you'll
Open up the gates for me
Reminisce sometime the night they took my friend
Try to black it out, but it plays again
When it's real feelings hard to conceal
Can't imagine all the pain I feel
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

CHORUS:
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

(We miss you,)

It's kinda hard wit you not around
Know you in Heaven smilin' down
Watching us while we pray for you
Everyday we pray for you
Till the day we meet again
In my heart is where I keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts, Big, I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us and the six shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me tapin' flics
Makin' hits, stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

CHORUS

Somebody tell me why...
.

One black morning
When this life is over
I know, I'll see your face

Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day

Chorus

Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day

Chorus

Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day

Don't want to appear too lofty but I would like some (or preferably all) of Faure's Requiem, sung by boys (important that, not by women). It is so heart-stoppingly beautiful and I like the thought of it being sung by young boys because that represents one life over and other lives just beginning.

Blackduck · 16/12/2004 12:44

Cliche - but 'Always look on the bright side of life'

MaryChristmas · 16/12/2004 12:45

Comfortably numb or the Great gig in the sky. Pink Floyd

Staying alive as an alternative view, maybe?

alexsmum · 16/12/2004 12:48

you can't always get what you want by the rolling stones.Anyone seen the big chill???

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 16/12/2004 12:52

ladyrobin - that's a really lovely choice. I haven't really thought about it before - guess I should. Dh says that he doesn't care what happens when he dies. His thoughts are "I'll be dead anyway and won't know anything about it." Miserable git!

alexsmum · 16/12/2004 12:53

I've got to say having a fancy dress funeral ia really dodgy idea I think! All your family devastated with grief having to go round fancy dress shops trying to assemble a costume????? And having to explain why they're crying to the people in the shops? " i need a medieaval costume to wear to my mothers funeral??"
And who is to say that it's going to be a celebration of your 106 year life? what if you are cut down in your prime by an unforgiving illness? How much like celebrating are people going to feel? sorry to be a doom monger but these things happen.

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 16/12/2004 12:55

Fancy dress doesn't appeal to me either. Mind you I don't like the thought of everyone being upset when I die - some people may do this type of thing to try and lighten the situation a little. Who knows??

spacedonkey · 16/12/2004 12:56

depends on the person - the family and friends will know what is appropriate

no-one's suggesting you should have a fancy dress funeral

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 12:59

My friends dad chose "You Are the Wings Beneath My Wind". Even the people who can normally hold themselves together were in tears. I can't bear hearing that song now, as everytime it gets played I can see my friends dad's coffin. Sorry to be morbid!

alexsmum · 16/12/2004 13:00

i've been to several funerals in my time unfortunately, and the best ones were ones were the person conducting the service knew the person who had died, they could tell a few funny stories a la " remember the time when the oven went on fire?", it was a dignified service, people could be upset if they wanted too, and there were lots there. there is nothing worse than a half empty church at a funeral.

spacedonkey · 16/12/2004 13:02

The most moving funeral I've been to was my MIL's. She was buried in a little church in Scotland, and as we were standing at the grave, a lone piper played as he walked from the back of the church around to the graveside.
